  4. Cub fans every where would hate the day that the Pirates actually became a major league team. That would mean less talented Cub teams and no more robbing your AAA Pirates of their talented players. I just hope that the Pirates get more for Zack Duke than they did for ARam. Their farm system has produced plenty of guys who went on to have good careers in the pros. If they actually were willing to spend money to keep guys like Schmidt, Benson, and A-Ram around, we might well be talking about the Pirates as a legit wild card contender right now. Thankfully, their ownership has decided otherwise.
  5. I'll raise a glass to this list.
  6. Did anyone else see the A's/Mariners game? Felix Hernandez was wiping the floor with the Athletics. Later in the game, A's Manager Ken Macha was seen kicking a door, seemingly in frustration. However, he finally kicks the door open...and out walks Joe Blanton. Turns out he got stuck in the bathroom.

  15. I think that WHIP might be a bit deceptive. He gave up 6 hits and 1 BB, with only one of those hits being for extra bases. I'm curious as to how many of those 5 hits were legit. Remember that defense at that level is not all that advanced.

  22. Seriously, what would trading Walker have accomplished aside from maybe netting some decent prospects who would likely be some time away (since they'd have to clear waivers)? Do we really want to give Dusty the option of having Jose Macias and Neifi Perez platoon at 2B for the rest of the season? Like Ronnie Cedeno would see regular playing time since Dusty now has this option? Who would man 2B next season, Cedeno? I'm guessing you'd be taking a gamble on Nomar staying healthy at SS? Or would you rather hope that Raffy Furcal is not looking to get painfully overpaid? Or heck, maybe you want a 2B from in-system to take Todd's place. That's fine... Except Richard Lewis' numbers at AAA have been absolutely excrutiating. Michael Fontenot, on the other hand, would be a decent utility option. But as a starter, no thank you. Eric Patterson? He's a year away, he could take over anyways on schedule (2007) without having to trade Walker. Ryan Theriot? A nice player and a nice guy by all accounts, but he's in the same boat as Fontenot. Face it, it's a good thing the Cubs decided to hang on to Walker. His defense has been shoddy at times, but I'll take a consistent bat like his from the left side eight days a week.
