  1. It's really, every opposing outfielder but Jones, and Pierre. What are they saying? Diaz Sucks. This is going to be fun.
  2. I'm surprised Dusty didn't bring in a right hander to face him.
  3. So how will the Cubs blow it today? I predict Dempster gives up a walk and a two out HR, leading to extra innings and Novoa giving up a two run double in the tenth.
  4. Neifi = Equally worthless from both sides of the plate
  5. That was an AJ Burnett Special from Zambrano. Nice catch.
  6. Much like he has been lately. Great stuff, shaky control.
  7. I'm reminded of that 140+ pitch game against Philly last year.
  8. *Walks away from the thread, whistling innocently to himself...*
  9. The fact that Tony Womack might start this game is reason enough not to bother watching.

  11. I think Giambi makes it before Sheffield. I don't think either of them will make it if the steroid cloud keeps hovering over them.
  12. you know what else the cubs rank last in? pretty much EVERY OTHER OFFENSIVE CATEGORY. it's not luck that the cubs are this bad. this guy CANNOT be this stupid. I'd laugh if Andy MacPhail or Jim Hendry brought out the old "sample size" argument in response to that one. ;)
  13. Some one's trying to get traded! ;)
  14. Scott McClain is playing 3B for Sacramento.
  15. He will likely be the first HS guy off the board at the rate things are going. He sounds like a keeper...too bad he won't fall to the Cubs. :(
  16. Why is Murton good all-around? He's got a decent eye and acceptable OBP. But he's got no power, no special speed, nor does he have anything special with the glove. He's been doing pretty well with everything except power since he was brought up. He skipped AAA too. There is a lot of reason to believe he will keep improving. He got demoted to AAA last season, as memory serves me.
  17. Then seeing as there MIGHT not be an IMPACT college/polish hitter available...then the Cubs are.....(fill in your adjective) Like every year, this draft is chock full of guys who could turn out to be impact bats or who could fall flat on their faces and be worthless. The Cubs have shown in the past that they have trouble developing guys who are offensively raw and prone to K/BB issues. Now, you could make the case that this not a result of the coaching, but of the players themselves. I think there is a lot of strength in that argument. They do have a tendency to get enamored with a guy's tools and potential instead of the current product. Ryan Harvey, Brian Dopirak, Corey Patterson, and a number of others were guys who oozed tremendous tools (especially power in the first two cases), but needed work on patience and pitch recognition. By their nature, Dopirak and Harvey were destined to become High K guys because of the fact that they were power hitters. However, that should not excuse the Cubs' coaching and development in developing these guys. I don't need to rehash what's happened to those guys since we all know about it. This organization does not put as much value on plate discipline as they do in other areas. A guy with a more polished bat and good pitch recognition would at least signal a change. Maybe they don't have the same ceilings as the guys mentioned above, but there's a better likelihood that they'll be able to become good major leaguers. Why should the Cubs keep making the same mistakes and expecting different results, ya know? Some teams can effectively develop those guys...I don't think the Cubs can. This year, because the position prospect pool is not all that good, there aren't as many of the toolsy all or nothing guys. Stubbs, Marrero, Conger, and LaPorta are on that list...yet each has struggled in various ways this year. Guys like Parmelee, Snider, Rowell, Antonelli, and Longoria at least seem to have a clue at the plate. We'll see what happens soon enough...
