  1. Should be interesting to see how Mexico handles Angola's defense. I'm really hoping the Ivory Coast advances into the Round of 16. They're a surprisingly talented team that unfortunately got stuck in a bad group.
  2. Adding onto this. Whoa, Greg Maddux is still alive? A: Yes, and he's been the second most consistent starter on this team since 2004 behind Carlos Zambrano...which is more of a testament to how sad and injured this pitching staff has been more than anything else. What's with that orange-colored blob that seems to be hovering in the stands behind home plate? A: That's our general manager, Jim Hendry, wearing his favorite shirt. Holy crap, has Juan Pierre really been THAT BAD? A: Yes. He's been in all 65 games this year and has accumulated all but 13 PAs in the leadoff spot. You know that Nolasco guy who's pitching for the Marlins and has been a nice fantasy pickup this season? He was one of three guys traded for Pierre. Does Phil Garner still resemble Yosemite Sam? A: Even moreso than ever. I'm going to be in town this weekend for the series. Where are some good places to go before and after the game? A: Metromix is your best friend for that. We have a promising young rotation along with a quality offense and some intriguing guys down in the farm system. Any advice for us on how to avoid what happened to you guys? A: Beware of pitcher overuse and short-sighted trades. Do you guys think you could beat the Royals in a best of seven series? A: I don't know how, but game seven would likely end in a tie. Are there any guys on your team worth watching? A: At this point, just the pitchers. Carlos Zambrano, Carlos Marmol, and Sean Marshall are all young, talented, promising, and producing. The bullpen is decent when it's not busy lighting itself on fire. The coaching staff has managed to get into the ears of Ronnie Cedeno and Matt Murton, so they've been on a steady decline recently. Jock Jones is pretty good when he's hitting well...but he's been slumping lately. This weekend is going to get ugly for you guys, isn it? A: Yep.
  3. I think he'd merely confuse most of the players when, during a discussion on the fundamentals of dumping the ball into the opposite field, he'd go off on a random tangent about waterproof khakis or how his dog ate his credit cards.
  4. Yep. Besides, you'll find plenty of people around here who probably hate the White Sox as much as you do...if not moreso in some cases.
  5. I know a number of you guys are wandering around this site, seeing what the deal is with the Cubs. Come on out and introduce yourselves. We're bored and could use the entertainment. :D

  7. Dare I say it? Today was a perfect day in the Cubs' minor league system. :D
  8. Wouldn't hurt to try, given that they're battling it out with the A's for the AL West and have fallen short a few too many times in recent years due to a lack of quality pitching.
  9. Meaning will Dusty run him into the ground, or meaning will Dusty/Jim decide to send him down to make room for more Rusch? Or trade him along with Sean Gallagher and Randy Wells to the Twins for Torii Hunter.
  10. For all the problems the Cubs have had developing hitters, they do have a gift for getting the best out of their pitching prospects (when not injured, that is). At 21, Danks might be a worthwhile project, and I'm skeptical that Wood would stay with the Cubs in 2007 as a reliever. True, but if Volquez has more upside, I'd rather go with him. Or heck, maybe the Cubs could somehow con the Rangers out of two of those three. :D
  11. I want to gouge out my own eyes.
  12. Might want to update your sig since T2 is projected as going #2 to the Bulls right now. :D
  13. Since we're on the topic, can anyone make this avatar-sized for me? http://gifdepot.com/albums/Animals/SadRoo.gif
  14. Cripes, couldn't they have thrown Rich Hill to the wolves for the rest of the season?
  15. Danks' HR/9 is 1.57 down in the Texas League. Ewwwwwwwwwwww. Um...how about Edison Volquez? He's doing pretty well down in AAA right now and seems to have passed Diamond and Danks on the Rangers' pitching prospect lists, both of whom are repeating AA this year and having a bit of a rough time with it.
  16. From the looks of it, Juan Mateo started off the third inning of Game 1 for the DJaxx. Follow along here.
  17. Paraguay's ballhandling and passing was atrocious. I kept waiting for those turnovers to kill them...and it finally happened. Then again, Sweden wasn't exactly playing all that well, either...
  18. I've been back and forth in terms of paying attention to it. Is it me or have teams been pretty bad at finishing plays so far this year?
  19. Eriksson is the Dusty Baker of football managers for leaving Crouch on. Somewhere, Sir Alex is throwing a fit. Sorry this is late, I was out watching the game. Just curious why you guys thought it should have been Crouch coming off? Obviously it's easier to say it was a good decision after his goal, but even before that it seemed like Crouch was much more involved than Owen. Owen had that one shot that went wide and I don't remember much else, Crouch had a few chances which he admittedly botched, but at least he was there. His screwups were much more visible, plus Owen's been battling injuries lately, hasn't he? I get the feeling that this English team is going to have trouble making it past the quarters...if they even get that far.
  20. That's an awful strategy, BTW. (for Poker anyway) hmmm. not sure why I posted that. My first drunk post on NSBB? YEA! I'd rather not reveal the number of times I've been inebriated and updated the minor league boxes. 8-[ :D
