  2. I'm just praying some team out there puts in a claim for Edmonds so that he doesn't clear waivers. It wouldn't be the worst Cubs signing of all time. I'm not saying that because I like Edmonds. I'm saying that because, having grown up with this team, I can always be assured that, no matter how dumb they've gotten, they have always had dumber moments in the past.
  3. Sorry about the lack of updates, but some issues came up last night that required my attention. I'll have the full boxes posted later in the day.

  5. Jim Hendry will use that AB as justification for picking up Edmonds.
  6. Eff you Estes, quit dragging out the game.
  7. I say we put a Michael Wuertz jersey on him, shop him around, and see if anyone notices the difference.
  8. My attempt at reading Larry's lips during the conversation on the mound: Larry: "You suck. You really, really, really suck. Just pretend you're a major leaguer for once." And no, Lou, Reed Johnson has only been good against LHPs. When you hit him against RHPs, he turns into a lesser version of Neifi Perez.
  9. Len is making excuses for Edmonds. He's ours. :(
  10. And that is why Khalil Greene is good outside of Petco.
  11. I'm so glad we never gave that insane three year contract to Jason Marquis... ...wait a second...
  12. It makes financing for potential new owners a bit more of a hassle, but every potential bidder has already assessed the value of this team with and without Wrigley included in the price. This shouldn't change a whole lot unless some bidders out there were banking on the team being sold without Wrigley. If that's the case, those bidders will quietly drop out. Why would you think that? MLB wasn't going to let somebody borrow a billion dollars to get the Cubs. If anything, the lack of an unfriendly prearranged lease arrangement, and the flexibility that allows, would make financing a little easier. This is a moot point right now, given that Wrigley apparently still might be offered independently, but there are incredibly few people in the world who have enough cash on hand to buy the Cubs out of pocket. Even if you get a group of people together to pool cash, it is very difficult to get enough people together to basically write a check for hundreds of millions of dollars, if not a billion dollars. Rest assured, at the very least, some of the money used to buy the Cubs will be borrowed. With Wrigley in the fold, that's some more capital that has to be scrounged together. Guys like Cuban and Canning should be able to get it without much trouble, but it just means that lines of credit have to be expanded accordingly.
  13. took an insult right out of the bill plaschke playbook there. I think we now know what Jay Mariotti's screen name is on this board.
  14. The idea of calling up Hoffpauir and sending down Pie sounds so much better to me now that Jim Edmonds' name has come up. I'd be all for this move if it meant no Edmonds.
  15. And trade him for a middle reliever 2.0 WHIP version! I hear Andy Pratt's available.
  16. Oh boy, let's trade Hill and Pie for Harden! Nothing like a horrifically injury-prone pitcher to help get this team over the hump!
  17. It's one thing to take a random sample size out of context and pass judgment on the guy based solely on that sample size. It's another thing altogether to put that sample size into context and come to a conclusion based upon the combination of those things. It's not just that Edmonds was unlucky, it's that his injuries and age have clearly caught up to him at the plate and in the field. He's not hitting hard shots all over PETCO that end up caught on the warning track or that see him get robbed. His injuries have sapped his bat speed to the point where I have to legitimately wonder whether he'll be able to consistently hit for any kind of power again in his career. His speed has similarly been reduced drastically to the point where I think it would be a safe bet to say he'd be a defensive downgrade from Reed Johnson. Perhaps he would be an offensive upgrade from Reed Johnson against right handers. However, Neifi Perez in 2005 had better splits against right handers than Reed Johnson has now. Using the offensive upgrade argument is folly, plain and simple. Edmonds is worthless to this team. I don't want him anywhere near it.
  18. Daytona ended up losing 3-0. Down in Iowa, Hoffpauir has his second HR of the year. Kevin Hart went 4, giving up a HR, striking out six, and walking 2. Iowa's up 3-1 going into the 6th.
