  1. We hear about those sorts of personality traits all the time with scummy megepastors and politicians. Moreover, I don't tend to trust people who constantly engage in self-promotion. I also don't like the way he came to Colorado and promptly took a dump on the existing roster. Granted, results are results so far, but it left a bad taste in my mouth. As far as what sorts of unethical/immoral/illegal conduct could be involved? As I said, it's just a feeling. I want to be wrong, and maybe he turns out to be squeaky clean, but it's just a feeling that something feels off to me.
  2. Something tells me he'll be on indefinite leave within the next 3-5 years pending NCAA (and possibly state/federal) investigations. It'd be awesome if Deion is doing all of this on the up and up and he becomes the Next Great Coach, but I'm getting really weird vibes from how he's running that program.
  3. This is beginning to feel like Groundhog Day. We have an athletically gifted young QB whose weaknesses are primarily mental who has now gone through two comically inept offensive coaching staffs that have been unable to come up with a game plan designed to emphasize their strengths while also being unable to make improvements to those weaknesses. I get the feeling Fields is going to get run out of this town on a rail and the cycle is going to start again next year or in 2025. Hopefully he ends up somewhere that can actually unlock his potential, because it sure isn't looking like it will happen here.
  4. There are two depressing possibilities and one horrifically depressing possibility. It may be possible that Fields is a talented QB and this coaching staff is trash in terms of unlocking that potential and utilizing his talent to the best of his abilities. It may also be possible that Fields is fool's gold who can't be trusted to make reads and place the ball with any accuracy more than five yard downfield, and the coaching staff is doing everything they can to gameplan away from those flaws. Worst of all, both options could be true.
  5. Is this going to be like previous seasons where the offensive play calling is horrific and stupid for the first five weeks, and then they randomly open the playbook Week 6 and Fields throws for 300 and runs for 100, only for the team to go back to the dumpster in ensuing weeks?
  6. I hate it when OCs try to prove they're the smartest person on the field. I hate it even more for Bears OCs because it has been proven time and again that is never, ever the case.
  7. Finally! Hopefully Ben Brown follows in the next few days if he's back to 100%.
  8. Welcome!
  9. Assuming you meant Cade Horton?
  10. I'm not super worried about Ferris losing a bit of control at this point of the season. He's a super young guy who likely has never thrown this many pitches in a season before, so this sort of result is unsurprising.
  11. Have we had any updates on Brown since he went down with an injury? I had him pegged as a guy who'd get called up for bullpen duty during the stretch run, but I haven't seen him in any recent game logs since the Cubs put him on the IL. As for Horton, he's relatively fresh off TJS, so I think he's better off hitting his IP limit and getting shut down for the season for some well-deserved rest. As for Steele, at this point I think it's sink or swim. I imagine the Cubs are doing everything they can to limit his usage and keep him healthy, but he's not a 23 year old rookie and he's also one of the key guys they'll need down the stretch. The fun near-term questions are going to be whether the Cubs acquire anyone on waivers and who gets called up. The depressing question is whether we see Marcus Stroman again this season.
  12. After Aroldis Chapman, I'm good with the Cubs not picking up dudes accused of being abusive shitbags.
  13. Maybe he's finally selling the team?
  14. I hear there's a piece of prime real estate available out in Arlington Heights that's basically stadium-ready!
  15. There is also a publicly unknown factor with Wicks, in that the Cubs will have him on a pitch/innings limit, although we don't know what those limits are at this time. Wicks just eclipsed last year's IP mark, and likely will end up pitching roughly another 20-40 innings before being shut down again for the season. I'd love to see what Wicks could do, but my concern is his secondary stuff isn't quite at the point where he could get by if he lost a tick or two on his fastball due to fatigue.
  16. Caleb Williams will end up going to the most annoying option. Think of a team with loathesome fans and an obnoxious head coach that's had some recent struggles, but isn't as long suffering as, say, Detroit or Cleveland. Washington sounds about right.
  17. I have a sincerely hard time seeing Kris Bryant as a bust. Yes, he's been abjectly bad with the Rockies since signing with them, but the guy put up 30+ WAR over 5 and a half years with the Cubs. By way of comparison, Ian Happ's nearly completed six full seasons with the team and has *only* managed to post a career WAR of 13.2.
  18. Credit where it's due, he generates clicks and content.

Outside the Top 10, Made (trade), Hernandez (eh), and Palencia (meh) all dropped off the list, so Vazquez, Aliendo, and Murray get the bump from Honorable Mentions. I also toyed with dropping Mervis off the Top 10 due to his recent slump and the Cubs' seeming refusal to call him up, but no one below him really jumped out enough for me to justify it at this point.
  20. This is where I'm landing with Morel at the moment. I don't get the sense that Morel can Zobrist his way into being a superutility type of player who can play across the MIF and in the OF while still keeping up his end of the bargain at the plate. So, on the other side of the equation, he may need to man a single position in the hopes that the everyday reps will improve his defense at that position. However, he's currently blocked at 2B and across the OF, his odds of sticking at 3B don't seem so great, and 2024 likely won't have an everyday opening for him unless the Cubs pull some serious offseason moves. So, you end up with a situation where Morel might be more valuable to another team than to the Cubs come the offseason. In that scenario, he'd be better served as trade bait, instead of the Cubs trying to smash a square peg into a round hole.
  21. The minors have been fun to watch recently. PCA continues to look like a legitimate stud and will probably end up in the top 10 of a heck of a lot of national Top 100 MLB Prospect lists, while Matt Shaw is wrecking A+ ball. Assuming everyone keeps healthy, the Cubs might have some really fun choices to make come next season. Oh yeah, and the MLB team is pretty good, so there's also that.
  22. He's not making contact and not showing any in-game power at the plate. I'll grant that he's young and in a pitcher-friendly environment, but he's on a downward trajectory at the moment.
