  1. Drip. Drip. Drip. Drip.
  2. This horsefeathers game is going to have a final score of 6-3, isn't it?
  3. Shaw's in such a weird spot in my mind's eye. I kinda agree with Tom that we have a bit of recency bias and SNTS with Shaw in terms of projection/evaluation, but it's not just that he's a recent draftee. He rocketed through the system and hit the crap out of the ball at every stop. I'd lean into the skepticism if Shaw had been drafted and was just decent in an extended South Bend stint, but positive results are positive results. As has been repeatedly stated, though, where things get mucky with Shaw is his future ML position. It's worth pointing out that Shaw is roughly three inches taller than Madrigal, so Shaw's height isn't as much of an issue at 3B as has been raised elsewhere, but Shaw still needs to prove he can pick it there. If he can't, then he'll likely be prime trade bait, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Sometimes a guy's best value to a team is as a trade piece, and that may very well be Shaw's lot in life.
  4. From what I'm seeing, the 2024 NBA Draft isn't looking like the sort of draft that changes a franchise overnight.. Then again, anyone they draft will either be trash or won't be any good until after the Bulls trade them for pennies on the dollar.
  5. Another prime trade candidate this offseason, but, I agree with the ranking and I would keep him over Alcantara in a hypothetical trade scenario. There's definite bust potential with his swing and miss, but he's been healthy, he showed in-season improvement, and the power potential is seriously impressive. It's also nice that the Cubs can afford to be patient with him. He strikes me as the type who just needs plate appearances against better and better pitching.
  6. If this is going to be anything like the Whote Sox rebuild, we'll find out that Vinny Del Negro has been secretly consulting with Jerry Reinsdorf behind AK's back, resulting in Billy Donovan and the front office getting cleared out in the offseason with Kirk Hinrich being named the new GM and Jimmer Fredette taking over as HC.
  7. Is it actual satire, or the kind of satire where you share a really unpopular opinion, wait to hear the reaction to it, and then claim you're joking when everyone gives you a really dirty look?
  8. If you had told me two years ago that Justin Steele was the ace of the staff in 2023, my response would have been to ask who we were planning on taking #1 overall in the 2024 MLB Draft. Credit where it's due for the pop-up and turnaround, but, none of us saw it coming.
  9. Last night I was listening to The Score and Hub Arkush was on with the later shift. I hadn't been listening to sports radio much lately, but holy crap was he carrying water for Eberflus and company, saying we can't blame the coaching staff when the Bears have the youngest roster in the NFL, they're basically starting this season from scratch, and the coaching staff is still teaching the players how to play football, so we can't blame the coaches for the players' screwups. Gotta protect that access, baby!
  10. I don't see it, in fairness. It'd be one thing if he had TJS two to three years ago and he was building up arm strength and stamina, but I think we're seeing close to the finished product with Wicks. He doesn't look like the type who needs to fill out, either. Granted, I could see him adding a tick to his fastball, but I think doing so wouldn't be that beneficial to him when so much of his repertoire relies on movement and sequencing. If he could consistently maintain 92-94 and keep his movement through 6+ IP, then great, but I think it's more likely we see him mess around with different kinds of fastballs and change ups to offer different looks the second and third time through the order than we see him focusing on throwing harder.
  11. Hot take. If you did Nagy > Eberflus, it would have been mild, but Trestman was an unmitigated disaster. Flus is just a clown.
  12. I can see the scenarios where the Bears get a top 5 draft slot with their own pick, but Fields plays well enough for the "will they, won't they" game in the offseason. This defense is not historically bad (thanks Mel Tucker!), but it's bad enough that it can't be trusted to hold leads late or keep games close. Granted, those scenarios are unlikely.
  13. We'll probably see some entertaining broken plays and Fields rushes on offense, but nothing else about this game gives me confidence in the Bears winning.
  14. We don't always agree, but I think this is bang on with Wicks. He ticks the major boxes you want from an upper level pitching prospect. Granted, he could end up as a 5th starter/swing type in the long run, but those guys can have long careers and be useful contributors for a major league team. He might not have ace upside, but if he can throw 170+ innings, put up solid BB/9 and HR/9 numbers, and post a decent K/9 while under team control, that should be good for 2-3 WAR and free up resources for the team to pursue Ohtani and Soto. I get that it's a floor vs ceiling debate with Wicks vs Brown/Farris, and I usually skew in favor of ceiling (hence why I have Horton over Wicks), but (1] I think there's another gear Wicks could reach in terms of the mental aspect of the game (sequencing, deception, etc.) that could elevate his production; and (2) the Cubs hot-shotted his callup out of desperation and he didn't crap the bed.
  15. My wish for this QB class is to make the NFL more enjoyable season-wide. The jury is still out on 2023, but, from an NFL production standpoint, it feels like the last decade of drafts has only had one year where more than one high quality starter came out of the class (2020), and the overall quality of the product has suffered as a result.
  16. Wicks is my foundation piece for the rotation at the moment. I don't mean I think of him as a 1 or a 2, but, coming into this season, I had serious questions about the rotation depth and concerns about what the rotation would look like in 2024 if Stro and Hendricks opted out. Wicks helped put a lot of that to rest for me, and it didn't feel like this was a flash in the pan or overachiever guy. It felt more like the Cubs found a guy who could anchor the middle of the rotation, give you good innings, and do it on a rookie deal. Hence, foundation piece. It's a large part of the reason I don't want them trading Wicks this offseason; it would open a hole to close another. I will grant that there is quality depth in the system and solid options in FA and the trade market, but I would rather deal a guy like Brown or Farris, even if they have higher upsides, simply because Wicks proved he belongs as a starter in the majors.
  17. I think Fields can be the QB of a perennial playoff contender so long as he's healthy and on a coaching staff that can maximize his contributions and minimize his mistakes. However, the Bears' front office has consistently shown a complete incapability of providing Fields with a coaching staff that can actually use him properly. It sucks thinking about it, but it might be better for both sides if he gets traded in the offseason and the Bears pick up a shiny new toy at QB in the top 5 picks this offseason.
  18. We get it. He's Black.
  19. So what, does that makes your reactions the DCU? Or is it more like those sad Universal monster movies that never went anywhere and were made for no discernible reason?
  20. If nothing else, this game should be near the top of the list of reasons for why Flus should get fired in the offseason.
  21. Is DJ Moore the best WR this team has had in recent memory? I feel like it's him and Marshall.
  22. "Fields shoulda shown respect to da guy who hikes him da ball! Whadda thug!" *Bagent does the same thing* "Whadda leader! Bagel shows dat grit you need from yer QB."
  23. That went about as expected.
