  1. Those numbers are not very valuable at the major league level. Those numbers are absolutely horrible to use in evaluating prospects. You're dealing with significantly worse defenses, a lot more restraints on pitchers (smaller pitch counts, how many pitches a guy can and cannot throw in an outing, the kinds of pitches a guy is allowed to throw in a outing, etc.), smaller parks, worse offenses, and worse bullpens. No one will argue if you're worried about the number of walks and flyballs he gives up. But the numbers you mentioned should be ignored for all minor league pitchers.
  2. *Gazes into crystal ball* I see the image of a pitcher...his name is Tommy John. His arm is in a sling. He does not look pleased.
  3. hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha *Deep breath* hahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!
  4. It's been a big question for him for quite some time. The dude is huge.
  5. One wonders if Ceda was in the offer. Considering the Padres gave him up in the first place in exchange for Todd Walker, something tells me they probably didn't want him back. But, considering their history of strong relief pitching, they might be interested in Gregg. :-k
  6. Hendry needs to bring in more useless veteran relievers with Howry and Eyre gone. I don't like Gregg and I don't like that we gave up Ceda for him.
  7. Donnie, I really want to believe you man. What did your sources tell you then? Really nothing beyond "Jake wants to be in Chicago" and "Atlanta isn't going to happen". I have more to say, but the more I think about it the more it could hurt the Cubs chances of getting him. I'm a Cubs fan first and foremost so I will not risk reducing the Cubs chances of getting one of the best pitchers in MLB just to improve my credibility with the board as a whole. Is your source Peace, Belkast or Big Bird over at Oriole Hangout. Those guys called the Cubs deal for Brian Roberts last years weeks before it happened. For the five billionth time, everyone and their mothers thought this was a done deal, Brian Roberts included. The problem was that Peter Angelos was insane and blocked any agreements made to trade Roberts to the Cubs.
  8. Assume that everything you read in this thread is nonsense and you'll be golden. This sentence is a lie.
  9. I'll maintain until the day I die that Sammy Sosa was never the same hitter after Torres hit him in the helmet. After that, Sosa would stand so freaking far off the plate that it just killed his ability to turn on inside pitches.
  10. There are a lot of future relievers and back end of the rotation guys, but the cupboard's bare when it comes to future aces, much less middle of the rotation pitchers.
  11. I'm curious about the kind of haul Colorado got for him. Athletics Nation is a good blog if you want to follow this, by the way.
  12. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?playerId=5641 3.41 ERA/1.28WHIP/29 Saves last year. In the pen, perhaps. At the end of the pen, no thanks. 8 losses (9 blown saves) from the guy at the end of the pen is not what I want to see. The most telling stat to me: 4.88 BB/9 last season.
  13. He looked hurried and made poor decision after poor decision throughout the game. I just don't think he can hack it with the Bears.
  14. That seems to be a running theme this season.
  15. Almost a pick six on fourth down. Beautiful.
  16. It's not quite as strange as the sun getting booed at Yankee Stadium.
  17. Snooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow!
  18. high and behind him. he barely got a hand on it. Yeah, it looked worse on Grossman's part on the replay.
  19. Catch that you ass.
  20. He's had nagging rib injuries this year, I believe.
  21. Terrific punt, but terrible job by Hester on it.
  22. The run D has been awesome today.
