  1. I've always been under the impression that a check swing called as a swing results in a swinging K instead of a called K. *Shrug*
  2. Not needing surgery means he'll probably return some time this season.
  3. Swinging. He checked his swing Had he done that, that would have been a ball. The HP ump called him on the swing, not the pitch.
  4. But will Farney be available? I'll bite.... what's a Farney ? Refer to my last post in the Gathright for Freel thread or http://deadspin.com/sports/top/ryan-freels-little-friend-193311.php Or even better, this.
  5. I get the sneaking suspicion that I'm going to require Tommy John Surgery simply from watching this game.
  6. He probably tripped and broke his ankle while getting off the plane. Super AIDS
  7. This is what happens when you start a game thread too early.
  8. Someone help me out here. there was a guy, 2004 or 2005 Cubs Minor League Player of the year. 2B or 3B, and then, he got injured, may have been a broken leg and he was never heard from again. Richard Lewis
  9. Prepare for Bob to gush during tonight's game since Michael Brenly's gone 3/3 so far tonight. Flaherty's got his average up to .280. I'm really digging his patience and hoping he can get a bit more power under his belt. Vitters has yet another single.
  10. less time please doctor? I think it means properly popping his shoulder back into place required a specialist rather than a team physician.
  11. Ehhhhhhh, I don't think it was intentional. They were going to the same place and collided. Ovie didn't even line it up for a knee to knee; it just looked like Gonchar's leg was way the heck out and Ovie skated right into it.
  12. 7 walks in 13 innings pitched in AAA. So a better BB/9 than Marmol? And Heilman. Something tells me that number's not going to get better if he's promoted, though.
  13. 7 walks in 13 innings pitched in AAA.
  14. Considering Gathright was traded, I figured this thread merited locking.

  16. Polo Grounds. During the 1954 World Series against the Indians. With runners on first and second during a tie game, preserving the tie and allowing the Giants to win Game 1 of that year's World Series in extra innings.
  17. He was born in December 1983. He's not turning 26 until after the season. The guy's finally got a reasonable walk rate and a passable strikeout rate, both of which were killing him in Daytona. He's hitting the ball well enough to merit a promotion to AAA soon. Maybe he won't be the All Star we all thought he could have been back when he was destroying the ball down in Lansing, but with numbers like those, he definitely could make his way into the majors and be a decent hitter.
  18. Of course you do. He's in AA now. Here's something to make you want to stab your eyes out. Line on the Year From today's game... 5/6, 4 R, 8 RBI, 2 2B, 1 3B, 2 HRs, 1 K :banghead:
