  1. Go and watch Carpenter. I've already seen him. :P
  2. Hm. Peoria double header tomorrow at 5 PM...and a take home final due at noon on Friday. Decisions, decisions...
  3. He was being a pain in a playoff game thread last season. Here is where discussion of what happened to him began.
  4. I went to Tennesee game today, Jackson started out pretty good first two innings, rough 3rd, good final three. Cales came in the 7th struck out two, he has a slider that might be the best one I have seen in AA, its filthy. This guy was drafted last year and could make it to AAA by the end of the season!!! or should I even mention September?? Gaub came with runners on 2nd and 3rd and struck out 2 to get out of the inning. Bring up Gaub, get rid of Cotts Shlitter came in and gave up a hit then a walk and got a dp to end the game. You get a chance to see radar guns for these guys? Also, any thoughts on the position players down there (Thomas, Barney, Clevenger, Guyer, Wright, etc.)?
  5. So, the only people who didn't get multiple hits for Iowa today were the pitchers (JR Mathes had 1, Jesse Estrada had none) and Brad Snyder. That looked like a great game to bolster your own stats.
  6. LH Jeff Beliveau starting tonight...IF we play. Looks like the worst has passed through (and what a storm it was!), but there's another system making its way through the State as we speak. The weather might be acceptable tonight, but the field is likely to be a mess with all the rain we've had.
  7. Hey guys! That thread seems familiar...almost like... http://blogs.e-rockford.com/applesauce/files/2009/02/crying_baby.jpg Sour grapes much?
  8. For us, it's more about individual results than anything else. If you really want to get an idea of how good a prospect is, you have to focus on stats that are mostly under that prospect's control while putting aside stats that can be heavily context-sensitive. For example, a lot of what goes into a pitcher's ERA is the defense behind him. When you compare the quality of defenses in the majors compared with the quality of defenses in the minors, the difference is night and day. ERA is deceiving in the minors simply because the quality of fielding is, in reality, not that good. Another example would be RBIs for hitters. Yes, people like that stat as a measure of clutch hitting, but in the minors, the quality of offense is also fairly low compared to the majors. With a fantastic prospect like, say, Matt LaPorta, he played on a AAA team (Columbus) that featured hitters who were getting regular ABs despite hitting for batting averages under .200 with OBPs under .300. Because his teammates aren't getting on base, he's not going to rack up as many RBIs as you'd expect. So, take those context-dependent numbers with a grain of salt.
  9. Actually, him putting his hand up to his ear was quite the opposite. From today's game thread.
  10. My sentiments exactly. Given how Hart's pitched this season, him blowing it was to be expected. I am almost glad that happened, because he is likely the next candidate to get called up. Hopefully Lou/Hendry see this and decide to call someone else up when they want another bullpen arm. I really doubt he's the next likely candidate to get a callup. His numbers have just been abysmal this season.
  11. Box Scores Iowa won...well, not so much won as massacred Colorado Springs 18-4 Box Score CF S. Fuld 3/6, R, 2 RBI, 2B (6) 3B M. Camp 3/6, 2 R, RBI LF D. 12. My sentiments exactly. Given how Hart's pitched this season, him blowing it was to be expected.
  13. Aaaaaaaaaaaaand Kevin Hart blows it in the bottom of the 10th despite the I-Cubs taking the lead in the top of the 10th.
  14. Iowa's game is now tied at 14 in the 9th.
  15. It might be one of those LaTroy Hawkins kinds of things where Gregg is really unreliable when given a one run lead, but when he has more than a one run lead, he does very well.
  16. Coleman rebounded tonight after two straight blah outings, going 6 scoreless and giving up 2 hits, 3 walks, and striking out. Tennessee still managed to lose 1-0. Bummer.
  17. I think part of it was a cold weather thing. I remember Lou talking about the cold having an effect on Gregg's hip, so with warmer weather, it might not be as much of an issue.
  18. Now get Heilman out of there. Preferably through use of a catapult.
  19. Someone forgot to get Lou his medication today. Again.
  20. You know, between Neil Cotts and Aaron Heilman, I wish the Cubs had kept Garrett Olson.

  22. There's also the whole sexual assault thing. That tends to put a damper on a player's reputation.
  23. Might want to double check the positions you've listed, Fred. :D
  24. It makes sense. Iowa will be in Salt Lake City, Tennessee will be in Chattanooga, and Daytona will be in Clearwater and Dunedin. Beloit's the closest option this weekend.
  25. That'll be in Beloit this weekend.
