  4. Wonder if the Cubs plan on having Marshall piggyback Harden for the time being?
  5. You do realize that you can never speak to him again if they sign him, right?
  6. Round 36 - 2B Brandon May (Alabama-Tuscaloosa)
  7. Haha. The Riot got denied. He should have had Mike Fontenot with him!
  8. That's going to be a common refrain today.
  9. Round 32: RHP Kenneth McNutt (Shelton State CC)
  10. They had the worst record in baseball last year, giving them #1 overall. Last year, they had the 9th overall pick and drafted Aaron Crow. They ended up not signing Aaron Crow. Under the new rules, if a team does not sign a player they drafted in the first round, that team gets a compensatory pick the next year the pick after where where they had the pick last year. Because the Nationals had the 9th overall pick last year and failed sign Crow, they got the 10th overall pick this year. That's what I thought. So, pretending for a minute that the Nats can't sign Strasberg and they finished with the worst record again this year, would they get the top two picks in next year's draft? Yep.
  11. It's under way. Not much interesting happens from round 31 until the end, but still.
  12. Tate HS (FL) 3B Jayce Boyd who signed with FSU. Texas took him. Enjoy going to FSU, kiddo.

  14. For the Cardinals, lots of upside and lots of questions. Of the four top HS arms (Turner, Purke, Miller, Matzek), I had the most questions about Miller. His fastball is really good, but everything I've read about him tells me that he is really, really raw. The guy has a great upside and all, but he's going to need time to develop his secondary stuff. I had questions about whether he'd be worth the money he's reportedly been asking for. Granted, the guy could be a legitimate ace down the road, but his development is probably going to take a lot of time. The more time these guys require, the more that could go wrong. He's a good pick, but still, I have my doubts. Stock was a head-scratcher for me. They announced him as a catcher, but the guy hasn't done enough with the bat yet to justify keeping him behind the plate. Granted, he has the tools to be really good at C, but he hasn't proven enough there to make me think he'll stick there. Furthermore, while people all think the Cardinals could afford to waste two or three years trying to develop him at catcher and then convert him to pitcher, that's a significant chunk of development time that's gone flying out the window. Again, good pick, but I have my doubts. After that, the only guys I know are Ryan Jackson (who sounds like an all glove, no hit guy) and Scott Bittle (who refused to sign as a second rounder last year with the Yankees of all teams). You're not alone in your assessment of the Cubs.

  16. We seem to be saying that a lot lately.
  17. He's also a bug-eyed freak of nature.
  18. I'm actually kind of glad Vitters has hit a bit of a slump. Spending most of the season down in Peoria with a late callup to Daytona wouldn't be the worst thing in the world for him. He still is young for the league and has plenty of work that he needs to do. The Cubs can afford to be patient with him.
  19. I appreciate how the A's and Red Sox are twittering their draft and adding some notes about their picks. It's a really nice touch.
  20. http://www.blackcollegebaseball.com/News/ewc/2008/4/22/042308itp_ewc.asp?path=ewc I thought they drafted Joseph Thomas? Is Charles the same guy? Charles is the only one I can find in their stats. He's their 3B, so I'm guessing that's him.
  21. Stanford is like Vanderbilt. He won't sign. --- Jabari Blash is an AWESOME name. Agreed. And I thought Brooks Raley was a cool name. Best name of the draft is definitely Damien Magnifico.
  22. IF Blair Springfield (IL HS) These prep picks are confusing me.
