    Let's see... Are there any good clubhouse stories you have from this past season in terms of pranks guys played on each other? Do you think the Cubs will try to move Aaron Miles, or is he going to play out his contract with the Cubs? Have you talked to the Cubs about how their prospects are looking down in the Arizona Fall League? If so, what does the team have to say about their performances so far? Can you give us an update on Soriano's surgery and rehabilitation? Are the Cubs planning on pursuing a CF and moving Fukudome to RF, or are they instead going to keep Fukudome in CF? What are the odds Bradley is in this team's opening day lineup in 2010? Will the Cubs pursue extensions for any players during the offseason? If so, who? Have you had a chance to meet the new owners yet? If so, what do you think about them?

    I thought Fuentes pitched out of the stretch regardless of who is on base? I thought he worked out of the windup. In any case, it just seems like he's been uncomfortable with runners on base during the postseason. My counter-point to that is that it would be much easier for Matsui to beat you than A-Rod. I think it'd be more likely to see Matsui double/triple/homer than see A-Rod homer.

    Why? I do not believe in intentionally walking a hitter in that situation for the following reasons: 1) Matsui has been hitting the ball really well in the postseason. It's not like walking A-Rod to get to the pitcher. 2) It put the tying run on base. 3) It forced Fuentes to pitch out of the stretch, which is where it seems like he gets in trouble. 4) Further expanding on that, Fuentes' 1.40 WHIP and 46/24 K/BB is cause for concern that he sometimes struggles with his control. From the look of how that inning started with two easy outs, I wouldn't want to mess with any rhythm he had going. 5) While A-Rod has been hot at the plate, you can always try pitching around him to see if you can get him to chase. I know A-Rod has been hot during the playoffs, but the odds of him tying the game in that situation are not great enough to merit giving him a free pass.

    I think all but a select few coaching or managing are. but with lou it seems much more exaggerated. Like, your first at bat determines what he thinks of you. It's kind of hard to compare him with other managers and coaches in this regard without following those teams extensively.

    It's not that I think Lou has problems with young players, but I really think guys need to make a good first impression on him. Take Soto as one example. He got the starting nod at catcher in 2008 coming out of spring training and he started out his season on a tear. As a result of that, I think Lou was much more willing to let him play through his struggles as the season wore on. The same holds true for Randy Wells this past season. Compare that to Felix Pie, who had an abysmal start to the season and never really recovered from it. Lou's a show-me kind of manager. If a promising guy produces and get on his good side, he will play that guy through struggles. However, if that same player struggles right out of the gate, I don't think Lou will let him hang around for very long and let him figure everything out. It might work for fielding winning teams, but it is not ideal for player development.

    Deadspin had some articles about ESPN yesterday that were nothing more than mud-slinging and rumor-mongering. It was awesome.

    Lost in the Castro hype is the fact that Vitters is doing pretty darn well for himself at the plate, with a .400/.429/.500 line. The three errors hurt, but for a guy who struggled after being promoted to the FSL, he's doing a pretty good job in the AFL so far.

    As a 19 year old, Hanley Ramirez played a full season at Low Class A Augusta, where he posted a .275/.327/.403 line with a 73/32 K/BB ratio, a 36/13 SB/CS ratio, and 8 HRs in 464 ABs. He had disciplinary issues during the season, which resulted in him being demoted to extended spring training for a period of time. BA named Ramirez the #6 prospect in the SAL league behind BJ Upton, Scott Kazmir, Cole Hamels, Jeff Francoeur, and Jeremy Hermida. He was also named the #1 prospect for the Red Sox in 2003, although their farm system was rather weak at the time. He played pretty well at that age.

    I would not do it for three reasons: 1) He'll turn 33 in May of next season 2) He'd only be a one year rental 3) If he agrees to an extension, he won't come cheap This team's payroll flexibility leaves a lot to be desired; extending Halladay would most likely restrict the Cubs in future offseasons. I would normally be fine with that with a pitcher of Halladay's caliber, but considering he's on the wrong side of 30, I worry about injuries and a decline in velocity and stuff. Moreover, if he does not sign an extension, that is a steep price to pay for a one year rental.

    Ryan Braun is a good (realistic) "best case" scenario for Vitters. Hits for a high average with very good power. What little patience he has comes from his power and pitchers fearing him, not from good strike zone judgement or willingness to work deep counts. Poor defender at 3B, will have to move to LF or 1B. Wouldn't a best case scenario for Vitters involve him becoming an above average defender at 3B?

    Aramis Ramirez, though I don't see him developing the patience Aramis has in the last few years. I agree. He's a guy with a lot of natural tools, namely his contact ability and power, but he has a "relaxed" reputation and needs to work on his patience and defense, much like A-Ram did early in his career. Whether he reaches that ceiling is anyone's guess, but I really like what I've seen from him. I still think he's the #1 prospect in the Cubs' system, even with Castro's success.

    Sloppy team, sloppy game. There talent is there for this team to be a competitor, but this team is just not fundamentally sound, nor does it seem to be particularly smart. There's still a long way for them to go before we can consider them among the top teams in the NFC.

    Give the Giants credit for not rolling over and dying. Bad pass, but a great catch by Manningham.
