Lane has actually proven to be pretty versatile when it comes to offensive schemes. While at Tennessee, he had an immobile QB and ran a vertical, pro-style offense that rarely was in the shotgun. At Alabama with Blake Sims, he ran a lot more shotgun than at Tennessee and mixed in QB runs effectively. Lane is a lot of things, but a very good, versatile offensive coach is one of those. He wouldn't last long. Tomsula has been there 8 years, is loved by all players and is considered very close with the front office and owner. They have a yes man as a head coach, Kiffin would be cutting off his own head. Wouldn't be the first time he's done that though so I wouldn't be surprised.
