  1. Wow. Only the second time in history a player has completed an unassisted triple play to end a ballgame. Lidge had Mets runners on first and second in the 9th with nobody out. Both runners ran on the pitch and Francour lined one right up the middle. Bruntlett, who had moved to cover the bag, had it hit right at him. He grabbed it, stepped on second, then tagged Murphy as he came into second. Wow.
  2. well, today he claimed he was misquoted. so, there's that....
  3. Oh my god, I love Z.

  5. Is gameday wrong or was not ONE of those pitches to bradley a strike?

  7. Yowza Seriously. Holy crap. I knew Fukudome was hitting the ball pretty well and should probably being doing a bit better than he is. But jeez, that's kinda crazy.
  8. I didnt read much of the first couple pages but my reactions are this: Yay. Guzman would be a good candidate. Yay. Marshall wouldnt be bad either. Yay, again.
  9. gameday is calling a lot of these balls blatant strikes. is gameday off or is the ump terrible?
  10. Sandberg and Sweetness for me. One died young and the other is pretty annoying, childhood ruined for me. Jordan and Sosa... One cheated on his wife the other took roids. Oh, childhood heroes. Don't worry Roast I'm sure Jordan took illegal substances and Sammy cheated on his wife too. K.

  12. I think that's probably the case; and there's not necessarily anything wrong with that. It's the same way with how I look at Sosa. It's because of him I'm a baseball fan and so it's a lot easier to look past the negative. That said, never having been a fan of sandberg, that speech was just obnoxious, IMO. Using the most important day of your baseball life to take shots at other players, all while talking about 'respect,' just didn't come off the right way.
  13. Scoreboard fail.
  14. I have no problem with every player being capable of bunting. But it comes down to the fact that there are very few instances in which giving the defense a free out is actually productive. It would seem that Sandberg doesn't understand this. And yes, if I was king bunting would be outlawed in the first inning.
  15. When Sandberg was still playing, I was still too young to follow/care about baseball so I don't have any of the fond memories many of the people on this board do. That makes it a lot easier for me to dislike him, I suppose, for that Hall of Fame speech. He spoke of "respecting the game," but to me, it shows a complete lack of respect to the game to use your induction speech to take shots at other players. He came off sounding like a bitter, bitter old man. Granted, the person he was most clearly taking shots at was my favorite player growing up, so that probably plays into it, too. All that aside, though; I don't want him anywhere near this team. His hardon for 'playing the game the right way' sounds far too much like 'playing the game the way people thought it was best to be played years ago, regardless of any new-fangled "stats" proving that some of these methods are outdated or even flat out wrong.' or something.
  16. Serously.
  17. Who do you think spilled the beer?
  18. Is Ruben Quevedo still alive/under 500 lbs?
  19. So yeah, I'm throwing in the towel on this one.
  20. Mmmm Tagalong goodness totally makes up for cubs suckitude.
