  1. Okay, this is where I resign from the sosa argument from here on out. Let me just tell you what is going to happen Some people are going to argue: Look, Sosa got really bulked up from what he was when he originally came into the league, and he played in and Era where steroids were prevalent. There is no way Sosa didn't take roids and I refuse to believe otherwise. Some people will argue: Sosa was mal nourished before coming to this country and then was introduced to a stable diet and the gym and thus he bulked up. Yes he was much bigger in his later years but that's what happens when someone spends hours and hours and hours per day in the gym. Oh, and there has never been anything close to proof that Sosa did steroids. Therefore I do not believe Sosa did roids, and until proof comes out I refuse to believe otherwise. Ok, debate over.
  2. Taken just 3 days apart.
  3. Picture 1: after years in the big leagues Picture 2: After less than 3 years in the USA.
  4. Very true on both accounts. The thing is that Sosa was said to stay in the gym long after the rest of the team left, and that seems to say that he went above and beyond the regular rigorous lifting schedule. I don't know though. All we can say for sure at this point is that Sosa has managed to not be named in a single steroid report - despite the fact that people are so damn eager to try and pin it on him.
  5. Players who come into camp 20 pounds heavier than they were at the end of the previous season always say that they spent all winter in the gym and dedicated themselves to getting in better shape. Not saying that Sammy was lying about it and did take steroids but I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if he did. But the average player isnt growing out of being a mal-nourished teen. Well, i guess some of them are - but regardless. I wouldn't be overly shocked if it came out that sosa did roids either, if for no other reason than the era he played in. That being said - No one has been able to build up anything resembling a solid case against him and in all reality I just don't think he did roids. Plus, it's not just sammy that said he spent time in the gym. It's well known that he spent hours on end in the gym every day. One of the benefits of steroids is that it allows the person to work out harder, longer and more frequently (That's what she said.) than the average person can. This is true, but the fact that no one has been able to pin anything on him thus far leads one to believe that maybe, god forbid, he actually just worked out a whole helluva lot and built his body up naturally.
  6. So people are now taking rumors of appearances in the Mitchell report as fact that said player used steroids? I'm going to bump this post in 30 minutes. Bump  I did say I really don't care if he used or not. Be careful not to backpedal too fast, or you might trip.
  7. to be fair, Sanchez has played at least one game at ss each of the last three seasons. he can't be any worse than theriot there. If we play him at short, I'm game. Otherwise, no thanks.
  8. And people wonder why some of you guys get reputations for being smartasses? Who ever wondered? I know I'm a smartass.

  10. The list OMC provided is different, and included bonds. This one does not for some reason.
  11. Didn't Sosa also bulk up at a younger age than a lot of these guys? Like, when it would be more natural to do so. Yes. People don't really realize just how dirt poor Sosa was growing up and what kind of Craptastic diet he had as a result. Once he got to this country (and, more importantly, finally made some money) he was able to afford a stable diet and was introduced to a workout routine that is conducive to building body mass. Also, as TheMojoPin pointed out, Sosa was a notorious Gym-rat. oh, and on an unrelated note, this is on the front page of Yahoo: Baseball's steroid bombshell MLB's steroids report includes a big surprise: Roger Clemens. hahaha, yeah, BIG surprise.
  12. Hey, I have an Idea! How about we let that Mark DeRosa guy play second because it won't cost us ANY players at ALL. And then we can focus on the real hole - Shortstop.
  13. So people are now taking rumors of appearances in the Mitchell report as fact that said player used steroids? I'm going to bump this post in 30 minutes. Bump LMAO! See - I knew Prior didn't use roids.... [-(
  14. In all honesty and with (almost) all my sosa love aside, i think it's possible that he didn't do roids. Yes his body Hulked up but he also went from being a mal-nourished dirt-poor kid to being a millionaire with access to extensive training programs and workout facilities and according to everything I've ever read - he basically lived in th gym. Anyway, He wasn't named in the report and he has yet to have anything close to solid damning evidence put out against him so - until he does - he's clean to me. All that said, it still seems like it was a way of life at that time in baseball so even if he did i suppose it's not that surprising.
  15. :( But really, do you think he hit that 8393923 foot home run by himself?
  16. I'm so happy sammy was not on that list!!!!!! =D> I can keep on telling myself he didn't use steroids now.
  17. Damn, you beat me to it.
  18. Who says they took the big 'bulk up your muscles' style steroids? Don't runners sometimes take roids to make themselves be able to grow leg muscle and run faster? They never bulk up too big. Again - I could be wrong. But it seems to me that the assumption that Roids = Big Bulky Superhuman Athlete is kinda silly. Yeah, there are leaner mass roids...but there are guys that took them, and there production was still terrible. Neifi Perez? LMAO. This is true, but like I said before. Steroids don't help your hand/eye coordination and they don't help you have the natural ability to hit a 90MPH fastball. Neifi just wasn't good at hitting the ball. Also, who says steroids DIDNT make neifi a lot better. Just imagine how bad he might have been if he DIDN'T take steroids.
  19. Why? I don't get the assumption that steroids make you good. They make you capable of building body mass (muscle) faster than you would before. They don't increase your ability to see the ball, or your hand-eye coordination. They make your body grow. And for that matter - someone said earlier that roids dont make you fat (in connection to kerry Wood) and I disagree with that. When I was younger I had to take some medicine for my asthma that had some kind of steroid in it and I shot up in weight really quickly. Granted - The roids these guys were taking probably only affected muscles - but I'm no doctor and I don't know exactly how roids work. On the assumption that steroids make you good- you get stronger. Being stronger helps in just about any sport. True, but you have to be able to hit the ball first. Neifi wasn't too good at that.

  21. No. the only guys ou tof those that spent any considerable amount of their careers on the cubs were Farnsworth, Sosa, Wood, and Prior. Everyone else was here for a season or two, maybe three, then went on to another team. That, to me, carries the assumption that they were doing them while on other teams as well. And even Sosa and Farnsworth were not on the cubs their entire careers. Besides, I'm pretty sure we've figured out by this point that steroids were just a part of baseball in the 90's and the early part of this decade. It's not a pleasant thought - but it's becoming more and more of a blatantly obvious fact.

  23. Uhm - Whoops. Sorry GoCubsGo. I was wrong. Which isn't shocking.
