  1. Yeah...Holy Smokes! 5 years?! $45M?! Jacque Jones is a bargain too now.
  2. How many more Brinks trucks do the Cubs have left? Park one in Schmidts driveway and leave the keys under the door mat with a tag "Theres more of this at the corner of Sheffield and Addison in Chicago IL."
  3. Hmm...Sosa was 30 in 1998, Soriano 30 now. Both had high K rates and low BB rates until their power numbers increased and teams started pitching around them. Very interesting case study. To boot Sosa got a huge contract before his breakout. At the time people thought the Cubs were nuts, i sure did and i liked Sammy then. That contract turned out great, it was the last one that sucked in the final 2 years.
  4. Michigan did have their chance at being undefeated and beating OSU, so if they dont make it they dont have anyone else to blame but themseleves. But if the intent of the BCS NCG is to have the 2 best teams play then its irrelevant if that game playerd earlier in the year is a rematch. This arguement as well is Woody's is double edge sword. And as someone said earlier, they've had their chance and lost at least once as well as Michigan, why would Michigan be penalized for already having played OSU. Its an intersting debate.
  5. If that happens you wont hear an arguement from me. Im definetly not sold on Florida, Arkansas im less negative towards but they have 2 tough ones coming up. Their loss to USC is really nasty looking though.
  6. Zambrano needs protection, you bat Soriano lead off :)
  7. agreed by nearly anyone who watched the game objectively. So anybody who doesnt agree isnt being objective? Interesting, good to know. Its ok to have different perceptions on said game. I dont think it was a garbage TD. Even after not recovering the onside kick there was 2.30 minutes left. Plenty of time if they would of stopped them for a 3 and out, especially for college football. Down 21-7 after being up 7-0 id like to see how other football teams would of resonded to that pressure in Columbus on Saturday. And since when did mistakes not matter in CFB? One of said fumbles was on a 3rd and 1 and would of resulted in a punt. Still that recovery didnt result in points. The other fumble was because he tried to get out of the pocket to quickly because an edge rusher was up the field. Mistakes are part of football. OSU had 3 really big plays and 2 huge runs on offense. Michigan had a more balanced offense in the game. Troy Smith was the better QB in the game and Henne had a great game, thats how good Troy was. But since see i see it differently and not as 'objectively' as you i must be delusional no matter how constructive my thoughts are on this.
  8. IMO anybody that has the courage to offer length to Schmidt has the inside track. I say he'll take less per year at the benefit of more years because of his shoulder history. 4 years might get it done. 5 is probably a certainty. Schmidt and Zito will probably wait and see what Boston does with Mats before signing.
  9. This is how i looked at this offseason. It was either Drew or Soriano or this offseason was a bust. I prefered Drew but if he wasnt going to sign i was more than happy taking Soriano. Those 2 guys were going to get overpaid because of the limited supply and who wanted them. You got to compete with Boston, LAA, Mets for Drew and you got to compete with LAA, LAD, Mets and Philly for Soriano. A couple of those teams are going be left out of the cold and if you dont want to be left out of the cold you are going to have to overpay. Its that simple. You dont want Soriano and want Drew thats fine. But you better get Drew or you are damn near bent. Thats one helluva risk to take for a team that desperatly needs another hitter. The Cubs dont have the pieces in place to pull of a trade for a bat like Drew or Soriano. FA was the only bandaid for this team and you were going to have to overpay and pay in length of contract.
  10. Ok, so does anyone like remember when the computers had Rutgers at #2 and OSU at #3 before the OSU/UM game and before Rutgers/Cincy game? Looks pretty silly now doesn't it. I just had to fire that one off. Other than that abnormality the computers have been pretty solid this year. I think Michigan is the 2nd best team in the country, but that doesnt mean they should automatically make the NCG. If USC wins out i have no problem with them playing OSU for the title. The other teams im not so sure about being more deserving yet. The intention of the BCS is to have the 2 best teams play for a NCG, it should be irrelevant if that game is a rematch.
  11. When do we hear details of this contract, today? I'll be suprised if those last 2-3 years as people have been saying exist, those are player options. I mean does he think that he can get more than $17M when he is 35/36? That would strike me as odd.
  12. We partied our asses off yesterday for the UM/OSU game. We drank 85+ beers. I dont think we will even come close to that this week. Some good games on the docket though. Does defense in CFB matter anymore? I mean look at OSU and UM defenses, they are very very good and both got lit up like a christmas tree yesterday. Same thing with USC/Texas last year. The QB in college football is even more important than it is in the NFL.
  13. Good point Chocolate Milk! Weren't there alot of people last year arguing that batting position didn't matter? Not saying those are the same people who say Soriano at lead-off is a bad idea though. . That was the prevailing thought unil The Book please elaborate on what said book says so I don't have to read said book. Basically that there is an optimal way to construct a batting order. Something like your best hitter should be in the 2 hole, second best leading off, third best in the cleanup stop, 4th best in the 3 hole. But thats completely based on memory...but you get the basic principle, batting order matters, just like you said a page ago. I'll look for more specifics and post them here. Thats interesting, Ill have to read more. Ive pretty much thought you put your best hitter in the 3 hole. Here he says 4th.
  14. 50. Someones gotta say it and have a little fun with this today. He's hitting 50 HR next year. :)
  15. USC has the edge Vs Michigan in both the Harris and Coaches but are losing in the puter and the margin for the puter is enough to overcome the points in Harris and the Coaches. Michigan is barely trailing USC in both the human polls. If USC wins next week they might sway the voters that have Michigan #2 and help their points to overcome the computers. I wonder if Florida or Arkansas will amass enough points in the humans to overtake Michigan? My first impression is they wont overtake Michigan. IF USC loses next week Michigan will pick up a lot of those USC 2nd place voters.
  16. As long as he's not playing LF i could care less if he is RF and JJ in CF.
  17. I would of been perfectly content with 7/119 so adding another year doesnt make me ill. For the Cubs to outbid teams they needed to add length. Soriano is an amazing talent. I really think his OBP increase wasnt an abberation last year. His SO's increased but i dont really care since he walked more. Having him leadoff and play CF is what i like. This maybe a screwed up way at looking at the $17M but with Murton making bare minums and later to be cheap arby years, its easier to overpay for a CF like Soriano. I wasnt as excited if they had him in LF and still went out and paid a lot for a FA CF.
  18. did the jets really try an onside kick. WTH. THanks

  21. Damn it. The game is not on tv.
  22. Well damn. Henne and Hart had great games, just not enough to fight off Troy Smith who had an unbelievable game. Michigans weakness is their safties, its the only positions they have just average talent. All year the Dline and LB and Leon Hall have covered their ass because of their solid play. Yesterday OSU's offense was good enough to expose those guys. The 2 long 50 yard runs and the bomb to Ginn were related to those guys not making the proper play or being out of position. I would welcome a rematch but wont sweat it if UM doesnt get it. They played a helluva game yesterday and it still wasnt good enough to win. I dont know what they would do differently to stop Smith and his offense. Its a good thing this is Smiths last year because im real sick of him. I think Michigan's got em next year though with Chad Henne returning. A story about asses who live in this world. On Friday a friend of mine was at a bar with his friend who was wearing an OSU shirt and he was wearing a blue shirt and yellow tie. A lady comes up to his friend and says 'go bucks' and high fives him. My friend responds by saying 'go blue'. The lady then makes a comment to him 'Bo's dead'. Are you kidding me.
  23. If Hendry doesnt give them Izzy and cash then he must really like the guy.
