It’s worth pointing out that Contreras is 63rd out of 66 catchers in framing this year per BP after finishing 97 out of 110 last year. I’m not an expert at interpreting this data but it seems he’s not bad at framing, he’s awful
RH Votto is catching on (at end of article) http://www.nbcsports.com/chicago/cubs/kris-bryant-has-gotten-so-good-he-may-actually-be-underrated-now-votto-mvp-world-series
With a wet outfield grass. I’m trying to think if I’ve ever seen a hit like that actually. That rolled like a ball hit on AstroTurf or something Fangraphs did a story on that game and that hit. They tracked balls hit at a similar launch speed and angle and almost every other hit was a single and did not roll to the wall https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-bonkers-game-that-probably-shouldnt-have-been/
Watching the playoffs this weekend makes me mad that we just started our rebuild. The bulls have been mostly unwatchable for 3 seasons now, I’m getting antsy for a relevant team again and my guess is we are still a few years off.
I’m trying to be patient but geez how much longer can we put a guy out there with a K rate of 49%? It’s a small sample size but it’s not like Happ didn’t have major K issues last year too
"When?" It's already come up a few times; minus the arm, he's kinda butt behind the plate. I mean, sure, I've seen people mention the passed balls and plain inability to catch pitches sometimes but I don't recall anyone specifically talking about his lack of framing skills. It’s been discussed for sure
