  1. I know it’s still early and records are still not necessarily reflective of actual quality of the team but.. Today will be the 20th consecutive game against a team currently over .500. Assuming Colorado and St Louis stay that way, the next 6 games after today are also over teams above .500. The Cubs record in the first 19? 12-7
  2. Next years #2 obviously has less value than a 2 pick next year. A number 4 this year is tough to give up but the Bears dont even have a 3rd rounder this year so instead of a 1,2 and 4, they have a 1,2 and 2. I don’t know I’m not an expert in these things but it doesn’t seem terrible to me Your first sentence doesn’t make any sense and the Bears have two 4th round picks this year so after trading one we still have the other. What do you mean? You disagree that a 2nd round pick next year is less valuable right now than a 2nd round pick this year?
  3. Eh not too bad a #2 and a #4 for a #2 Pace is a horsefeathering ametuer Next years #2 obviously has less value than a 2 pick next year. A number 4 this year is tough to give up but the Bears dont even have a 3rd rounder this year so instead of a 1,2 and 4, they have a 1,2 and 2. 4. next year's 2nd and a 4th this year Eh not too bad
  5. Yes, I'm a huge advocate on spending top half of draft picks on the o line regularly. So basically the anti-Jerry Angelo strategy?
  6. I never thought I could love an athlete as much as I love Javy. I didn’t care if he was always going to remain that good but flawed player, I still would have loved cheering for him, but if he has really kicked it up a notch the love is on a whole other level.
  7. Despite a somewhat mediocre start, the Cubs have now played at a 92 win pace for the season.
  8. Fangraphs wrote an article about scoring runners from 3rd with less than 2 outs and the Cubs were the team they pointed out as noteworthingly bad.
  9. He's made some fine plays...but i believe defensive ratings still have him as below replacement level this year (which of course is attributable to SSS partially). He's also made some notable gaffes that while don't mean he's a bad fielder or anything, tend to stick in people's minds.
  10. Of course Heyward loses the ball. Thankfully he found it eventually.
  11. This is a little funny that he all the sudden finds trouble when he's one out from actually making it through the 5th.
  12. I know all the discussions about his peripherals, etc but based on selective eye test (basically meaning ABs I've seen) he's looked like poop and getting more poop-like in appearance.
  13. reminds me of when Dusty used to keep players at the same spot in the batting order when they replaced a normal starter. Like Trinidad Hubbard batting 3rd when Sammy went on the DL
  14. i blame duke even though he didnt write about his fielding
  15. Oh Grobber [tweet] [/tweet] For those too lazy to listen: Someone texted Grobber last night suggesting that the Bears draft Bobby Boucher from South Eastern Louisiana State University, and he basically discussed the possibility on air for a few minutes. The clip only has a couple of seconds but still funny.
  16. Who says that solo homers can’t beat you?
  17. Don't see any updates but he can come off the DL Saturday
  18. I love you Duke
  19. I still manage to forget almost every day that we've got clods here who put up game threads without "CST" in the damn title. For shame, JERSEY cubs fan; after yesterday's bizarre start time, I thought tonight was 6:10 PM EST again. tonight is at 6:10 EST it's also 6:10 CDT Fred used to always gleefully correct me on that.
  20. Would love to now see these guys hit better against pitchers they struggle with historically Schwarber vs. LHP: .077/.250/.154/.404 (16 PA) Almora vs. RHP: .278/.297/.333/.631 (37 PA) Baez actually has reverse splits this year, is mashing righties (1.344 OPS) but struggling against lefties (.513 OPS) Obviously all SSS stuff, but if Schwarber is going to be an elite hitter he needs to at least be adequate against lefties. Edit: Also not to hijack a Javy thread but Schwarber now has 300 PAs since coming up from the minors last year (regular season only). His line in those 300 PA? .266/.357/.582/.939 with 24 HR
  21. Still can't believe that Rizzo blast right after Bryant's didn't go out. I mean obviously everything turned out all right but Bryzzo going back to back in the World Series would have been awesome. I guess they'll have to do it this year. Also, gif themed game threads are one of the top 2-3 things to ever happen to NSBB. I don't even know anything about some of the shows like Monk but they are still great.
  22. I'm by no means a good draft pick evaluator, but if MPJ is available at 6, you have to take him right? Obviously has considerable risk with his injury but probably has 3rd best ceiling in the draft after Ayton and Doncic. I don't like Bamba (useful but limited ceiling), Jaren Jackson (has too many holes), Wendell Carter (limited ceiling) or Trae Young (high ceiling but spectacular bust odds). I don't mind Bridges or Bagley but I don't think they quite have the upside of Porter (plus I don't think Bagley will be available at 6).
  23. Oooo sorry Duker beat you to that by a couple of hours, and he provided pretty charts as evidence
