SchwarberFan wants you all to know that it’s going to rain very hard soon in the vicinity of Wrigley Field but he’s a little shy so he’s only replying to posts with cryptic indirect messages regarding the upcoming weather situation
In the last 2 innings, the Mets have gotten 4 hits to what my phone calls “shallow left” or “shallow left center”. All to lefthanded hitters. Please don’t tell me those are all due to shifting
Happ, LF LaStella, 2B Baez, SS Contreras, C Bote 3B Heyward, RF Caratini, 1B Mills, P Almora, CF Is my guess unless they are planning on calling someone up
2019 is a club option at $19m. So, he may not have a choice. He's saying if the Cubs bought out his contact and tried to negotiate a club friendly deal to bring him back. Good point Tim. If he continued to pitch like an ace the rest of this year, I'd be open to a 2 year deal with a team option for year 3 with a nice buyout, but if he wants 3 years guaranteed, I'd just pick up the option for next year.
Beat him in July, we can beat him again* *by beat him I mean try to get him out of the game after 7 innings max and hope Cole matches him nearly pitch for pitch like he did Scherzer.
I was just coming to make a similar post but was asking whether the Rangers would throw a fit it we just declined his option and signed him 1 year/$14m to avoid the extra $6m, but I think if you structured it the way you suggested it would make the Cubs look less bad and would benefit both the Cubs and Hamels. You might need to make the buyout 3-4m though just to throw Hamels a bone vs. exploring the market and potentially getting more dollars and/or years from another team.
Phillies would be a little scary with Nola and a motivated Jake pitching 3 of the 5 games (assuming 1 is used in the WC game, 4 of 5 if its a 2 v 3 matchup). That said I'd least worry about our pitching staff against their offense. Colorado is a winnable matchup, I just hate the idea of 2 games at Coors Milwaukee is my pick but we could beat any team in the NL so whatever bring it on.
I think he threw 6 straight balls to start the inning but recovered to get Reyes on a short chopper and Plawecki’s single was very soft. If Bruce didn’t historically hit lefties terribly I don’t think he would have been pulled
