  1. Maybe like Duensing shouldnt be pitching in high leverage situations
  2. This offense is not going to get going this series are they?
  3. Now there's the Catwalk we know and don't love.
  4. I'm starting to think we just don't have the pieces (that we are willing to give up) to make an impact move this year
  5. horsefeathers now we have to trade Happ, Russell and more for someone..anyone. We should probably re-sign one of our young players to a financially crippling extension too just to be safe. Damn you Stearns you are making us mortgage our future with your wizardry.
  6. This is all true. Its weird how unsatisfactory (I can only speak for myself, but I suspect many also feel the same way) it feels but at this point the Cubs are in a great position. I think theres just been some real rough starter luck here, with injuries and poor performance all around. But hey, they're likely gonna have homefield advantage throughout the playoffs so, roll them dice baby Throughout the NL playoffs, but yeah agreed.

  8. https://theathletic.com/446030/2018/07/25/the-cubs-sit-atop-the-national-league-but-the-view-could-be-better/ they were talking about this on mully & hanley this morning too. really throws a wrench into any trade plans. but maybe bote's a guy worth keeping around regardless of bryant's health, so it could end up working out for us. If you think Bote is worth keeping long term fine, but I don't buy the 'have to keep Bote because of Bryants injury questions' logic, especially if it keeps us from our biggest need at the deadline, a starter. Happ, Javy and LaStella can all play 3B if necessary and while options like LaStella might not be that great defensively at 3B, the downgrade is IMO not more than the potential upgrade of a starter who can pencil into the Cubs postseason rotation. Position player depth is our biggest strength right now, and that depth doesn't even include Bote full time right now.
  9. There's a lot more talk about this in the last couple of days. At least from media arguing whether they should or shouldn't. No real rumors or anything. I still think for whatever reason, the Nationals chances of resigning him lessen if they trade him. It does occasionally happen but for every Chapman there are a few Lester situations where the incumbent team trades their guy with plans to resign him in the offseason and he goes elsewhere. With that said, I think by keeping him the chances of them resigning him are worth more than whatever return they can get for 2 months of him.
  10. The Cubs seem to rise to the occasion when he pitches. They've won his last 4 starts and are 10-8 overall when he pitches. They will win in spite of him.
  11. No no no. Can’t even use the old “Bosio will fix him” justification Wait, why wouldn't we want Happ given the state of our rotation? I'd love to get him, personally. I guess it depends on what we give up. I'm just hoping whoever we get can make an impact in October. He has a 6 ERA over his last 6 starts...no guarantee that he's even in a PO rotation, and if he is he's unlikely to be a difference maker in a series in my eyes.
  12. all is forgiven heyward. but seriously get your damn eyes checked
  13. [expletive] heyward get your horsefeathering eyes fixed. no one loses more balls in the sun than you. [expletive]
  14. No no no. Can’t even use the old “Bosio will fix him” justification
  15. What does this mean? We have too many guys putting together bad ABs in big spots - when it’s the pitcher who should feel the pressure. I think of that back to back Baez/Contreras sequence over the weekend and now Russell. You’re up 2-0 in that spot, take at least one more. As stated above, his swing changed the whole AB and inning. You picked 2 isolated examples during a month long stretch where the Cubs are killing it with RISP
  16. So in the past 24 hours we learn that Bryant's shoulder is in pain again, Javy's knee is "pretty sore" and Morrow is still feeling "a lot of pain". At least we havent heard anything about Darvish experiencing pain after throwing 16 pitches yesterday.
  17. What the happened hell to Robbie Ray this year? He was a 5 win pitcher last year and is now below replacement level this year.
  18. Hey finally a slow grounder isn’t perfectly placed for a hit
  19. horsefeathering Christ this has been an annoying series so far
  20. I was at the game today, got in line about 25 minutes before the gates opened, and they literally handed the last bobblehead out to the person right in front of me. Oh well, I can live without it, but it does suck to be right at the cutoff line. What gate did you go in? My friend got there at about 5:10 according to him and was one of the last ~20 or so to get one, and he went in the main gate.
  21. Caratini’s arm is going to be too tired to throw out runners the next time he catches
