  1. Maybe. But I don't blame them for going this route when I don't think they had a lot to offer other teams in trades without getting into MLB depth. You have 6 starters and like 9 bullpen arms if you include Smyly. Find 12 capable pitchers out of those 15.
  2. I just expected more of a rebuild after trading McCutchen and Cole. I expect Archer's price to be high, possibly more than what they got back for Cole. Do the Pirates really think they are close to being a contender this year or next? I guess I haven't been paying that much attention to them.
  3. Fire Hickey. Kintzler for player-pitching coach. Might want to hold off on that... https://www.fangraphs.com/statsd.aspx?playerid=7448&position=P&type=&gds=2018-06-09&gde=2018-07-28&season= Yeah he only makes starters slightly worse whereas Hickey makes them a lot worse. Net positive
  4. They're only 3.5 games out of the wild card game. And Archer is an asset beyond this year. Yeah but they'd have to jump 3 teams to make it. I dunno maybe they just see the NL as wide open with the Nationals down, Phils and Braves still incomplete, the Cubs starting pitching woes and the Dodgers early season stumble. Guess we will see how much they had to give up.
  5. I....don't understand what the Pirates are doing.
  6. twitter says that he has the 11th highest soft contact rate in baseball this year.
  7. Call me crazy but I don't hate trading for Harvey if the cost is minimal. I like the idea of acquiring a crapload of pitchers and hoping 3-4 of them work out. Strangely at the same time, I would love it if Harvey was the Brewers deadline move because I don't fear him at all.
  8. Sounds like the Diamondbacks are likely landing spot for Ziegler
  9. We're not in on Ziegler apparently
  10. I like the idea that the starter market is expensive, we already made a move and we hope that we can get at least 2-3 guys pitching well by the end of the season. So the next logical move is to stack the pen with guys and turn any playoff games into a bullpen fest. Just using Ziegler as a placeholder here but if we acquire that pitcher we'd have Morrow Strop Edwards Cishek Chavez Ziegler Montgomery Rosario Wilson Lester/Hendricks/Quintana/Darvish as starters (in an ideal world) That is a pen you can feel good about asking to pitch 4-5 innings a game. That pen is so stacked you have to debate dropping Rosario or Wilson in favor of Hamels if he is pitching well.
  11. Sounds crazy but I have this feeling that Harper will be on a new team this time tomorrow.
  12. yeah seriously. figure this horsefeathers out bears and get him on the field.
  13. There was a recent BA article on how they scouted this years all stars when they were prospects. Altuve was never rated higher than the Astros #28 prospect and was highlighted for his defense only in the scouting report.
  14. Are there any educated guesses about what Corey Crawford's injury is? So weird that he's not 100% yet and hasn't even skated. Didn't sound too convincing that he will be ready to start the season.
  15. The media, sensing an opportunity to tear down a player, are jumping in
  16. I must have missed it, what did ARod say about Darvish?
  17. What the horsefeathers was Contreras doing?
  18. Since Hendricks is presumably the first pitcher in baseball history to pitch 6 entire innings and give up only 2 runs, it’s only fair that if some starter were to somehow equal this feat, they will call it a Hendricks
  19. Happ has not looked good when I’ve watched him the last few games. Swinging at a lot of bad pitches which I know is unlike him
  20. The bullpen is awesome, though, so don't we have to give him credit for that? ETA: Sorry. Didn't see that second graph. If Chatwood comes out of the pen and starts dominating we then know that we have to make everyone a relief pitcher
  21. I for one am shocked Derwood didn’t read the last couple of posts before posting something I’m shocked that you do t understand that posts can be made while you are typing Sorry you lose the benefit of doubt when you tend to do this quite often
