  1. https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/the-2018-red-sox-are-baseballs-best-champions-since-the-1998-yankees/ 538 still has the Cubs as the 19th best World Series champion ever and 2nd best in the last 20 years, with this years Red Sox one spot above. It seems like by their rankings ELO gets a much bigger emphasis than they should as the Cubs are significantly better than this year's Sox in pythagorean record and WAR.
  2. Noticed that the Bears are 3rd in the league in rushing yards per game. Do we finally have an elite running game Tim?
  3. It will screw Michigan over that’s for sure so don’t lose
  4. Derek Anderson has a concussion and Nathan Peterman is expected to start. Reminder of Peterman's career stats: 45.7% Completion percentage 3 TD 9 INT 4.4 Y/A
  5. This is the 2nd time this year the Bears have faced a team coming off a short week. The last time this happened the Bears won by 38
  6. Me too. I was cheering for the warriors at the end of the half. I actually got mad when Thompson got called for that double dribble. This is what life as a Bulls fan is now, rooting for opponents to drop 200 on you
  7. At least we held them under 100. Not many teams can say that Wait it’s only halftime SMH
  8. Crazy the Sox have won 4 World Series in the last 14 seasons and all 4 of them featured somewhat difference cores. Look at the top 5 fWAR players from each team 2004: Schilling (6.5) Pedro (4.8) Damon (4.3) Ortiz (4.2) Varitek (4.1) 2007: Ortiz (6.3) Beckett (5.7) Lowell (4.5) Crisp (4.4) Youkilis (4.1) 2013: Pedroia (4.8) Victorino (4.7) Ellsbury (4.6) Drew (3.6) Saltalamacchia (3.5) (Ortiz was 6th, tied with Lester at 3.4) 2018: Betts (10.4) Sale (6.5) Martinez (5.9) Bogaerts (4.9) Benintendi (4.3) Of course with 3-5 years between each title, the roster is going to naturally change but the Sox have been able use their massive resources to shuffle the deck around instead of having a "core" and building around it. Probably not done deliberately considering they've had 3-4 GMs during the run, but impressive nonetheless
  9. Of course you probably could put together 7 game stretch of Cutler's career that exceed that too. So while it's encouraging, consistency and longevity will be the key. Are people that encouraged by how Mitch is playing? I’m lower on him now than I ever was. The inaccuracy is a big problem and is going to cost the Bears against any team with a pulse. The numbers I’m seeing are more a product of good scheming and coaching by Nagy than Mitch being good. I do think some of his success is due to good scheming by the coaching staff (but that shouldn't be a knock against him - do you think Mike Glennon is running as successful as an offense? Do you think Jared Goff is lighting it up in a John Fox offense?) and I do think he has some accuracy issues but I think a big part of that is footwork. You see his issues when he's hurried or scrambling. A concern but certainly fixable. He has also made some really really good throws and is starting to go through his progressions better which he wasn't doing earlier in the year (possibly because its a new offense). And then of course the ability to make plays with his feet doesnt make him a better passer but it makes him a better QB as long as he's not scrambling too soon.
  10. [tweet] [/tweet] Hmm that changed
  11. They should definitely take away our competitive balance picks for the next couple of years.
  12. IF it’s truthful I feel like that eliminates every team that isn’t the Cubs, Yankees and Nationals. Nationals because if there was a deal in place with dollars etc it would have to be the Nationals. Yankees because the interview was on YES network (not strong evidence but enough that I can’t eliminate them). Cubs because of the KB connection and all the signs/reports that point toward Chicago.
  13. If the Bears lose because A) a Long personal foul negates a 3rd down conversion into FG range and B) a Jackson personal foul negates a 3rd down stop and leads to Jets TD...
  14. Mitch is so horsefeathering inaccurate. When he misses it’s embarrassingly off
  15. Nice job by long to ruin a very likely FG drive and possibly TD drive with a stupid ass penalty
  16. Mitch very unimpressive
  17. I’d buy this if you randomly ceased to exist for the Gould years
  18. So glad we spent all that money on a kicker
  19. The problem with baseball today is that managers do not manage the 4th inning with the 18th inning in mind.
  20. Northwestern is (as always) a weird ass team. Loses to Akron, barely beats both Nebraska and Rutgers but then plays Michigan down to the final minutes and beats Purdue, Michigan State and Wisconsin. They will probably give Notre Dame a game next weekend. If they somehow find a way to win at Iowa they are probably playing in the Big Ten championship game lol
  21. We don't really have depth, particularly defensively. It's the same story as the last decade, we are relying on Keith and Seabrook to log heavy minutes and they just arent the same players as before. Also while we've come out scoring quite a bit I don't see where consistent scoring is coming from outside of Debrincat, Kane and Toews. We do have some money to spend for once but I am pretty sure they intend to use a chunk of it to extend Debrincat. They could be decent and make the playoffs, but legit good? I see too many holes.
  22. Even if Murphy had like a 1.400 OPS as a Cub I'm not sure I'd want him back just based on his defense alone (ignoring the off the field stuff which is very relevant too). You rarely see guys so bad defensively that its plainly obvious to anyone watching.
  23. I want Bryce, I dream about him, I would be willing to convert to the Mormon church if that's what it took for him to come here, but I'd be lying if I said his inconsistent numbers don't scare me at least a little when we'd be handing out a 10/$350m contract. You are giving him that for the 9 fWAR season he had in 2015 of course and we'd live with the 3-5 win (or 1-3 win if looking at BR) player he's been the rest of his career which is pretty damn good but would be slightly underwhelming.
  24. Yep. The Bulls want to half-ass rebuild on the fly and you can tell they are running out of patience already after a year though they are still sort of on the rebuild path. I loathe GarPax, I can't stand hearing them talk, I hate the excuses they make, I hate the drastic change in philosphy every year that seems to be 2-3 years behind the rest of the league, I can't stand how they choose to build basketball teams that will be competitive sooner than later at the expense of a championship ceiling, I loathe that they hired Fred and then for his first 2 seasons built a team that completely opposes his style of basketball, I hate that they didn't have anyone on their draft board left for a high 2nd round selection and thus sold it, I despise that they lazily decided Hutchison was their guy before the combine and didnt bother to work out anyone else even if their mind was set, it annoys me that they do just enough right (Butler trade and Lauri drafting) to give enough ammo to the few defenders that are out there even though good to bad moves seem to be on a 1:4 ratio. etc etc etc.
  25. More GarPax incompetence https://www.hoopsrumors.com/2018/10/bulls-surrendered-potential-trade-chip-by-waiving-asik.html
