  1. Seriously though. Mitch was doing well, offense was moving the ball. There was no excuse for Nagy to pull back the throttle and try to hang on for a win, and it almost cost them a game they should have won easily. He’s been doing this horsefeathers this entire time and he doesn’t adapt
  2. 2-14 still possible
  3. I hate Nagy
  4. Can tell Nagy is going into super conservative mode. Running in 1st and 2nd down consistently, punting from the opponents 38 on 4th and 6. Hope the defense holds up their end but I just want to register the complaint that I hate doing this horsefeathers in the 3rd horsefeathering quarter Speaking of:
  5. Not trying to tear down what Mitch has done but a big part of this performance is the line is doing a great job of blocking and giving him time. But he’s made good throws and he looks confident out there so that’s good Edit: and then he throws a tip aided pick in his next pass. Oh well
  6. Good to see Quinn/Mack showing dividends immediately. Mitch looks pretty good so far
  7. Ted Gunn a healthy scratch :-k Fastest Pace has cut bait on a FA signing
  8. I will say though it’s a bizarre year and Bryant isn’t the only star putting up completely anemic numbers. Here are some of the guys in Bryant’s neighborhood with regards to wRC+: Carpenter - 78 G. Sanchez - 78 Arenado - 78 Ohtani- 78 Altuve - 70 Bryant - 69 Baez - 60
  9. He should go into arbitration with some nice leverage this year. Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk seriously, wtf do you make of this season? .600 OPS 1 season from FA. Yes there are injury issues and there are a lot of weird results from this pandemic season, but geez. At this point he is angling him self for a 1-2 year prove it contract when he becomes a FA.
  10. Just for fun, I broke the Cubs offense down in 5 game increments. One of the increments is 6 games because the Cubs have played 51 before tonight and because one of the 5 game stretches was G1 of a doubleheader so I had to add the 6th game. Overall: .228/.325/.398/.723, .315 wOBA, 95 wRC+, 7.4 fWAR .250/.345/.500/.845, .361 wOBA, 124 wRC+, 1.5 WAR, 4-1 .213/.324/.375/.699, .311 wOBA, 92 wRC+, 0.7 WAR, 4-1 .269/.358/.419/.777, .338 wOBA, 110 wRC+, 1.2 WAR, 4-1 .186/.318/.333/.651, .292 wOBA, 80 wRC+, 0.3 WAR (6 games - DH), 2-4 .208/.331/.354/.685, .308 wOBA, 90 wRC+, 0.6 WAR, 2-3 .230/.306/.461/.767, .324 wOBA, 100 wRC+, 0.9 WAR, 2-3 .246/.328/.515/.843, .351 wOBA, 119 wRC+, 1.4 WAR, 4-1 .224/.302/.355/.657, .291 wOBA, 79 wRC+, 0.2 WAR, 1-4 .203/.278/.291/.569, .254 wOBA, 54 wRC+, -0.2 WAR, 3-2 .246/.348/.359/.707, .313 wOBA, 94 wRC+, 0.8 WAR, 5-0
  11. Feels like the Cubs are going into another hitting funk. Thought they were snapping out of it earlier in the week. Since Sept 3rd they’ve averaged 3.4 runs per game and that includes a game where they scored 12. During that 16 game span their team batting line is .224/.311/.335/.647
  12. Jeffress last 3-4 outings he’s had tremendous difficulty throwing strikes. He just gave Buxton his 3rd walk of the year to open the 9th in a 1-0 game
  13. How many times now has he been hired/fired/ leave of absence due to drug issues over the last 25+ years? 10? Think of all hosts that have been kicked aside to give him one of this 13 chances. It was either Spiegs or Goff I believe for this latest one.
  14. Seems like all the DHs are taking a toll and may cost them a playoff spot lol
  15. I would take Lester back at a discount in 2020. Like 1 year $8m or something. The Cubs have to replace him, Chatwood and Quintana (though obviously they've made due without the later 2 all season), but if we can get Lester back on a discount we may be able to afford a TOR caliber starter as well.
  16. It's deep too, which is important with the no offdays playoffs this year. In that context I'd rather have 6-7 good relievers than 2-3 awesome relievers. And for Game 3 of the Wildcard round I'd lean on the pen. Give Lester (or hopefully Q by then?) three innings and then go with the parade of relievers. I think you build up Q with the intention that he’s going to get, at most, one time through the lineup. As weird as it sounds, Lester and Mills are in a competition for that #3 spot. Might end up being match up based, but they’ve both put up impressive outings lately. Here’s a dumb idea: Darvish goes out and wins game 1...do you save Hendricks and hope you win game 2 without him? No I don't think so. I can see the appeal of making sure Hendricks starts game 1 of the NLDS, thus giving you the option of starting him in Game 5 on 3 days rest but I'd rather get there first and figure it out. If you win Game 2, you have 3 full off days before Game 1 of the NLDS so you can start your Wild Card G1 starter in G1 of the NLDS if you want. It's going to be interesting to see how teams approach Game 5 of the NLDS with no off days. Either you start your ace on short rest, your 5th starter, or perhaps a bullpen game.
  17. Who do you think would be the Cubs 3rd starter in the Wild Card round? Mills?
  18. So once again Theo has turned a pile of cast offs into a serviceable bullpen. After all the near blown games early in the year, the pen has been legit good since then and possibly even a strength heading into the playoffs. There are things I can criticize Theo/FO for but figuring out a bullpen is not one of them How good has the pen been? Since August 23rd they have the 3rd best WAR in baseball as a unit
  19. Cubs are 17-17 since the 13-3 start
  20. Really applaud Happ for doing everything to avoid the deadly bases loaded, 0 out situation
  21. That's so absurd. It makes a 162 game season so meaningless. Teams will drastically shift usage to protect guys, imo, and also spend less because why build a projected 85-90 win team when 75-80 wins gives you just as good a chance to make the playoffs and you can save a couple million dollars. Man that is so true, I didn’t even think of the depressed salaries angle. Does the PA have any say in this? This change would be a negative for everyone involved with baseball except the owners. horsefeathers Manfred, I hate this soooo much
  22. Hope you guys are enjoying this 16 team playoffs because it doesn’t look like it’s going away. I am not a traditionalist. I dig change when it’s good. But this is NOT good change. It he tries to jam the extra innings rule down our throats next year I don’t know what I’ll do
  23. Ross just did the same thing 5 days ago. I feel like managers are getting dumb again
  24. FYI, Cleveland blew a 3-1 lead
