  1. Nah, we are due for a random 10 run game where everyone feels like things are back on track, followed by scoring 2 runs total the rest of the weekend I really wish I could be more excited for this series. This is what its all about, division on the line for both teams, crosstown "rivalry", both teams getting ready for the playoffs. But I just don't feel excited about this team right now. Maybe its a character flaw that I cant enjoy this, but I know I'm not the only one feeling this way.
  2. This question could be posed underneath soooo many comments in soooo many topics on NSBB, I would say this could have been a response to 37.6% of my NSBB posts before 2009, and I've worked that number down to a healthy 12.7% since then.
  3. The Pirates starters in this series, with their ERAs coming into the starts: JT Brubaker - 4.79 Steven Brault - 4.04 Trevor Williams - 6.70 Chad Kuhl - 5.03 Combined this is how they fared against the Cubs: 26.1 IP, 11 hits, 3 ER Edit: Overall, the Cubs batting line for the series was .162/.259/.285/.544
  4. 1-3 vs. Pirates 2-1 vs. Brewers 2-1 vs. Reds 2-3 vs. Cardinals 2-1 vs. Pirates 1-1 vs. Reds 10-10 Cardinals: 4-1 vs. Brewers 4-1 vs. Pirates 2-3 vs. Brewers 1-2 vs. Reds 1-1 vs. Cubs 12-8
  5. It seems like most of the time when a team gets into this type of extended offensive funk, there is usually a point where the team finally has an inning where they randomly put it together and score 3-4 runs. An example would be game 4 of the 16 NLCS. Cubs hadnt scored in 2+ games and then all the sudden they put up 4 runs out of nowhere in the 4th inning. Offense is back on track and everyone is happy. I keep waiting for that moment to happen, and thought it might be the other night when we actually scored 3 runs, but obviously thats not the case
  6. If it wasn't for the fact that the Cardinals would possibly be the beneficiary, I'd not even care this point about winning the division. And this is not like that meme that went around twitter yesterday where a Dodger fan showed a screenshot complaining how bad a lineup was from a Dodger team that "only" won 86 games. Yes maybe we are a little spoiled and would appreciate it more if we were on a long postseason drought, but this team is legit mediocre. They can win games with great 1-2 starters and whats turning into a solid pen, but the offense sucks and there is no depth. I still dont really understand how they are in first place. I guess its because they started the season hot.
  7. Dammit, I totally shouldnt have visited the board. I was really hoping today was going to be a day where I forgot the Cubs were playing an afternoon game and could just see that they lost after the fact. It's come to that with our Cubs
  8. And this was before yesterday’s game. Setting the date to August 1st only really eliminates the first week of the season. Can’t pretend that week didn’t happen, but basically since that first week they’ve been amongst the worst 5 offenses in baseball. Still seems crazy to me with all the draft capital we spent on offense during the first few years of Theo that we ended up with a core that is collectively performing so poorly, weird season or not
  9. 2 QB start league? Did you start Josh Allen and Dak or something? Maybe Aaron Jones and/or Kamara too?
  10. Ok let’s do the White Sox update: When we last checked in on the Sox, they were in the middle of a 9-1 stretch where they pounded the Royals, Tigers and Pirates exclusively. Since they started playing real teams again, they have gone 4-6 (Yes I know it’s funny to call the Tigers and Pirates not real teams when the Cubs recently lost 2 of 3 games to both teams). That makes their record against the Pirates, Royals and Tigers 21-3 and their record against every other team they’ve played 13-19. I do think the Sox are pretty good, but this is a mildly entertaining stat
  11. Interesting
  12. Beautiful performance tonight against a starter who came into the game possibly pitching worse than any other starter in baseball
  13. Today’s Pirates starter came into today with a 6.70 ERA in 10 starts this year. In his previous 5 starts he gave up the following amount of runs: 8 5 5 6 6 And the following amount of hits: 9 7 5 10 7 Tonight so far: 4 IP, 1 ER, 2 H Sorry for all the negativity, I’m just stunned with how poorly the offense is playing right now. Cubs had the fortune to face 3 struggling starters the last 3 nights and we’ve scored a total of 2 runs against those starters so far. Seriously can’t remember the last time I’ve seen any offense perform this poorly
  14. Yesterday our biggest rally started by consecutive HBP’s to start the inning. We obviously didn’t score. Today the big rally was started by a weakly hit grounder perfectly placed down the line and a walk. Also didn’t score.
  15. Obviously they should still win this game but man this series was our chance to feast and put any remaining doubt about the division away. They will almost certainly not blow the division but I’d rather not have any drama facing a White Sox team that seems to relish beating us and is clinging onto a division lead of their own.
  16. That was a fun lead for 1 batter. It was also fun being tied for 1 batter.
  17. Why did he leave Chaffin in? Game over
  18. As much as this team frustrates me, it’s definitely noteworthy to recognize the accomplishment of making the playoffs for the 5th time in 6 years and most likely they will have made it even if we had the normal 5 team format. Good job guys. Now like learn how to hit plz
  19. I’m struggling to remember a time where the Cubs struggled worse than this offensively for an extended stretch. This is anemic offense against 2 pretty mediocre starters the last 2 nights coming off a series where we scored 2 total runs
  20. The Cubs have not hit a HR for 57 innings.
  21. [tweet] [/tweet] He has the same level of excitement in his reaction as I do when I find out my fantasy football waiver claim went through lol
  22. WOJ BOMB Lavine is pumped:
  23. I'm more worried about our potential opponent's hitters than pitchers. With our offense we're probably not going to score a ton of runs regardless of who we are facing. Of potential playoff teams, only the Indians offense has performed worse than ours with regards to wRC+ and wOBA over the course of this admittedly short season, and their performance has gotten worse as the season has gone on.* But if our pitching can shut down the opponent's offense, we are in a good position to advance. *yes I still hold out hope that the team's collective talent can get it together and then we are a legit scary team. If you want to face a bad offense, it doesn’t get much worse than the Reds. Although Cardinals might actually be slightly worse on the road and have a much more fragile pitching staff. I see the Reds like the Cubs offense. A bunch of their best players having really down years. Suarez will petrify me every time he comes up, as well BD Nick. Votto's decline is likely more age related but he still seems to crush us even this year. Shogo and Moustakas both hit us well in the last series too. At least they don't have Billy Hamilton anymore.
