  1. I was reading some articles last night, and an Athletic article that polled several scouts put Bedard as the second best overall prospect over the last 10 years, only McDavid polled higher but at least a couple of scouts but Bedard on McDavid's same level/tier.
  2. It's similar to the term dynasty. For some reason the overuse of the word dynasty drives me nuts, but generational doesn't. I guess there could be a better word to use that more accurately characterizes the type of prospect Bedard is, but I guess its being used to describe the highest level of elite prospect, a surefire cornerstone star player. Someone who is regarded higher than a normal number 1 overall pick. To put it in basketball terms because I'm more familiar with prospects there are a few different tiers: Tier 1: LeBron - Generational, no doubt prospect. Expected to be a cornerstone of the league moving forward Tier 2: KAT/AD/Kyrie - Likely superstar and among best players in the league for the duration of career Tier 3: Wiggins/Ayton - High floor player with superstar upside but maybe a little more risky in terms of career projection Tier 4: Anthony Bennett - There's probably a tier between these (maybe a Joe Smith tier) but very high risk player with higher bust potential. Is going number 1 because its a poor draft and someone has to be drafted 1st. (I realize this is obvious to many here, I just wanted to spell it out for my own good) Bedard is a Tier 1 prospect similar to McDavid or Crosby. Kane was probably a Tier 2 prospect but rose to a league cornerstone type of player.
  3. They have 19 or 20 in the first round, 4 second round picks and 3 third round picks. I understand the need for depth, but if they can trade their 1st and a couple of 2nds to get another top line/pairing guy with star potential, I'd at least explore it. They also have two 2nds and 3rds the next 2 seasons after this that they could trade from if they wanted to go hard this year.
  4. interesting about trading in quantity for quality
  5. Cubs averaging 2.5 runs per game over the last week
  6. The Cubs have had multiple runners on in 4 of the 7 innings so far and at least 1 runner on in 5 of the 7 innings and have 1 run to show for it. its harder to score runs when you need 3 baserunners/hits to get it done. Cubs have 1 HR in their last 6 games
  7. Yeah this FO does not seem like the type of Front Office thats going to accelerate their rebuild that drastically. Maybe the plan goes to 2025 instead of 2027 now
  8. I was so confused during that commercial break. Obviously they knew the results ahead of time
  9. We absolutely don’t deserve it but I’ll take it!
  10. Ugh couple of crappy singles and the cardinals lead
  11. Based on what Twitter is saying during lineup introductions, expect heavy booing of Willson when he comes to the plate.
  12. There's absolutely no doubt in my mind he gets a standing ovation: 1) He won a world series with the Cubs, and had one of the bigger hits during that run. He was a part of 3 other playoff Cubs teams too. 2) He had nothing but praise for the Cubs, Cubs fans, etc for his entire 7 year career here. He brought passion and energy to the game and acted like a leader the previous 2 seasons when the Cubs were bad and had a lot of young players. 3) The Cubs made no attempt to resign him at all. He was forced out in a way by Cubs management so he's under no obligation to not sign with their arch rival....if anything this may have drawn him to the Cardinals 4) A couple of comments to endear himself to his new fanbase do not erase 7 years of nothing but love for Cubs fans. I would have liked it if he approached it differently, but I'm not going to boo him because of it. For all those reasons, he deserves a standing ovation tonight and I'm sad that he might be booed. But either way I hope he goes 0-5 with 5 strikeouts.
  13. They were probably feeling desperate after striking out on several other catching options. Doesn’t mean it makes sense though.
  14. very confused about why they would specifically request not playing the Bears in Germany. I guess Chicago is a big city team so there may be a draw there but the chiefs are going to sell out regardless of who they play.
  15. The Cubs won a series but probably should have swept. The Cardinals have always sucked but now they suck on the baseball field to match their general suckiness. Miles Mikolas was good at one point but he doesn’t seem that good anymore. Blame me if Mikolas throws a 3 hit shutout and the Cubs get swept Go Cubs!
  16. It was the first game they sac bunted in at least, the marquee broadcast said they had 0 coming into the game.
  17. I’ll try to get one up tonight, thanks for the reminder
  18. Shut up with your stats and logic lol. I swear someone posted here or on Twitter that the Cubs had the lowest overall BA with RISP over a 20 year period or something. I couldn’t find that but I did find this about this years team: https://twitter.com/joeyknowsnothin/status/1654932302521139201?s=46&t=0_jG0mfAmSwG-21Uluk7Vw not sure why it’s not embedding but it basically says the numbers drop off considerably in medium and high leverage situations (76 wRC+ - 26th in baseball) But small sample size and no way to prove clutch is some controllable attribute.
  19. Another 1 run loss. Imagine if we were 3-3 in one run games over the last 2 weeks instead of 0-6. Team feels a lot different at 20-14 instead of 17-17. 3-4 hits away from things looking much better
  20. And yet we’ve been bad at it for 20 years lol. That’s some variance. The 2016 Cubs had the best BA with RISP that I can remember and they were like 18th in the league. illogical rant of course because every single variable possible has changed over the last 20 years so unless there’s some spirit controlling our ability to hit in the clutch it’s just multiple decades long bad luck
  21. Disappointing loss. I don’t know how you get better at hitting with RISP but they need to figure that horsefeathers out
  22. Walkoff Madrigal homer would be one of the most bizarre endings ever
