  1. Agreed. I get that the FO doesn't want to tank, but I'd like to see them at least shop DeRozan to some contenders. DeRozan seems like a heavy usage guy on the Bulls put he's proven before he can still be successful in a lower usage role. There has to be at least a couple of contenders that see DeRozan as a piece to put them over the top and are willing to overlook things like age and remainder on contract because they want to win now. There's really not a huge benefit to the Bulls hanging onto DeRozan and letting his contract expire, nor is there a huge benefit to an extension. Perhaps AKME is looking at the deadline as a better time to move him, but I'd like to break up the Zach/DeMar/Vuc big three and try to reinvent this team as a team with more shooters and tough defenders.
  2. Nico with a better line drive rate would be freaking scary. But to get to that point you probably end up messing with his contact rate or other areas that he is currently strong at (I think?). Castro's hitting profile with better defense and baserunning seems fair.
  3. Ahh yes, RE24 is something I've come across before but haven't looked into very deeply. Definitely seems like, similar to WPA, is not really predictive of future results as there is still a widespread belief that "clutch hitting" is not really a skill. But it does seem to show Nico in a very positive light this year.
  4. Have to win both of these games so its a good thing Steele and Stroman are on the hill. Hopefully they can each give 6-7 solid innings because I think our bullpen is a bit taxed and already not that good to begin with.
  5. Question for the stats guys: How do you quantify Nico Hoerner's value from an offensive standpoint? Meaning, I heard a lot of buzz about Nico being a borderline All-Star this year and to be honest when I saw Nico come up in the 11th inning yesterday with a man on 3rd, I felt good about it on a team that lacks a ton of options that you want to see up there in a high leverage situation. Obviously a large amount of his value comes on the defensive side, but I also think that more often that not Nico has good at bats, doesn't seem to press in high leverage spots and has good contact skills. But when you look at traditional baseball stats, or basic "advanced stats" or even some of the legit advanced stats out there, he looks like a slightly below average offensive player, despite both FG and BR showing him as a net positive (I think). His wOBA is slightly below average at .318, his OPS+ is 98, his wRC+ is 99. Maybe my premise is faulty and he's really just an average offensive player with elite defensive skills, but for some reason I cant shake the fact that his relatively high BA and low K rate make him more valuable than advanced stats can show. Am I off here?
  6. Of course, imitators and variations are showing up. If anyone is interested in a football version: https://dynasty-daddy.com/gridiron Note: apparently, the player data pool is only guys who have played in the 1999-2022 seasons Personally, I'm not sure how good I can be at a football version. Baseball and maybe basketball are the 2 sports I can do this and have a shot to get 9/9
  7. It's a good thing we ended up winning the group to avoid Guatemala (FIFA rank 116) and instead get to feast on Canada (rank 45). I know I know, this is a depthless Canada's B team and they've looked pretty weak this tournament but still funny how it works out.
  8. I know there are only 30 teams, meaning there are only (I think) 435 combinations of 2 teams you can choose so repeats will happen, but I'm surprised that there are 2 repeats today that were both in the June 21st edition. And all 3 teams involved (Cubs, Orioles, Mariners) are in the same exact spot on the board as they were June 21st. When I first saw it today I thought for a second I accidentally got the old one showing up.
  9. Pre-Manfred Man it would have to be something where a pitcher comes into the game with a bases loaded, 0 out situation, gets a triple play (or a double play and a caught stealing/pickoff) and then retires the side the next inning. Seems pretty unlikely its happened before but not impossible.
  10. This is going to be one of those games that Jayson Stark is going to write 10,000 words about: -Pitcher making his MLB debut in extra innings of a tie game, faces 4 batters, gives up a hit and wins the game -3 Brewers thrown out on the base paths in 2 innings -Happ throws 2 runners out at home in extra innings -Miller on the Brewers manages to make the final out on the base paths in both the 10th AND 11th innings -Inning ending on a pitch clock violation K -Other crap about the first 9 innings
  11. Palencia pitched 2.0 IP and faced 4 batters Edit: Damn it Rex!
  12. lmao, thats one way to end it. Happ the MVP of extra innings
  13. Oh wow keeping him in for a 2nd inning to finish it off. I'm not even sure which pitchers are available but kind of surprised here.
  14. Assuming the Brewers walk off here the Cubs will have won 2 times in the last 13 days.
  15. Lead officially blown. 6-2 with 2 outs in the 8th
  16. Even if they win this game, the viewing experience has been miserable
  17. Wtf is up with these pitch clock violations? Both favored Milwaukee. I’m only half paying attention but feels like they are doing something to mess up the Cubs
  18. Not really worth a topic but the Padres DFA’d Nelson Cruz today. Given the Cubs will be higher on the waiver priority due to their record, he seems like a pickup the Cubs would make given their need for power and the Madrigal/Wisdom injuries potentially pushing Morel out of DH for a bit. I don’t think he’ll be any good but seems like a move they’d consider.
  19. Mexican fans were again chanting homophobic slurs at a match on US soil last night. Can US Soccer ban Mexico from holding friendlies in the US for a year or something? Bc it doesn’t seem like CONCACAF or FIFA will hold them responsible. Hit them in their pocketbooks and maybe the Mexican federation will do something about it
  20. Since Ricketts took over before 2010 they’ve overseen 8 seasons of non-competitiveness and 6 seasons of competing. So 43% of the time they’ve been competitive. They have made the NLCS 3 times in 14 years with 1 World Series title Trib Company oversaw 17 non-competitive seasons and 11 competitive seasons. So 39% of the time they were competitive. They made the NLCS 3 times in 28 years with 0 World Series. An improvement over the Trib Company but let’s be honest neither ownership has been super successful. We got our WS which is great but outside of that it’s a bunch of horsefeathers Also Im just kind of swagging whether a season was competitive. Basically 84+ wins and/or finish within 5 games of a playoff spot.
