  1. Cubs go down 1-2-3. Now we brace for Taillon’s latest shelling first 3 batters: Lineout, base hit, lineout
  2. Swanson just said that he won't be playing in the All-Star game. Stroman already said that not only will he not pitch but he is going to PR over the ASB to relax so he won't be there. Hopefully Steele gets into the game so we can have something to look forward to. TBH, he should probably start with Kershaw on the IL, but have a feeling they will go with someone with more name recognition.
  3. The Cubs have never beaten the Yankees in New York, save an exhibition win in 2009 to open New Yankee Stadium. 0-12 overall with 4 of those losses coming in the World Series. As far as I can tell, there are only 2 other matchups in baseball where one team has never beaten the other: 1. The White Sox have never won in Atlanta (A CWS @ ATL series is next week) 2. The Rockies have never won in Toronto (won't be playing there until 2024)
  4. I don’t know they might be. You can point out the season long RD, but even if you say “ok well the Reds are a much better team now than they were at the start of the season, you have to throw away the early stats” ok then…run differentials since the start of the Reds 20-4 run: Reds: +32 (20-4 record) Cubs: +28 (13-10 record) I dunno maybe the Cubs are just a team built to greatly under achieve their RD and the reds overachieve.
  5. Reds win in extra innings. Now 20-4 in their last 24 games and the Cubs are 8 games back in the central. Still waiting for that terrible pitching to affect them..
  6. Last 5 games have been pretty wild 1. Down 6-0 in the 5th and 6-2 entering the 9th, the Cubs score 4 to tie it but lose in the 10th 2. Up 6-0 in the 3rd, the Brewers score the last 8 runs and win 8-6 3. Up 4-0 in the 5th and 6-2 in the 8th, the Cubs blow the lead but manage to win it in the 11th 4. Down 3-1 in the 9th, the Cubs score 3 runs with 2 outs and win 4-3 5. Down 5-3 in the 8th the Cubs tie it up only to immediately give up the go ahead run in the bottom half and lose Not a dull one in there, too bad the Cubs lost 60% of those games.
  7. I meant my original comment as we needed to win this series and we didnt. we also need to win next series and most of the series coming up. The series started with extra importance as I believe the Brewers were tied for first on Monday but with the Reds being nearly unstoppable right now it becomes slightly less important, though any game against a team you are chasing has more importance than a game against the Yankees.
  8. The deadline has a major impact on how our season goes. We're down to 20 games before the deadline. A Direction on buy/sell will probably be made after maybe 17 more games. Currently 6.5 out of the wild card and 7.5 out of the division. Need to win as many games/series as we can as the margin for error is basically zero.
  9. Agreed. It just sucks that a majority of our easiest games this year come after the deadline. Easiest remaining schedule in the NL and we'll probably win a bunch of feel good meaningless games at the end of the year
  10. Split a series we needed to win. Now have the Yankees and Red Sox for 6.
  11. How is Yelich decent again? Very frustrating development as it was fun making fun of the Brewers for that contract
  12. I want something more urgent. I'm down with Mervis long term but the time to be aggressive is now. I have no idea who is out there but if we can grab someone that has a track record of production and doesn't crap all over themselves defensively at 1B, I'm all for it.
  13. Jed should suck it up and find a 1B or 3B in the trade market like today. You can still be a seller if it doesn't pan out, but if Jed really does want to be a buyer as badly as he's implied, be aggressive and help your team get over the hump so that you can be a full buyer at the end of the month. Wouldn't be the first time a team bought and then ended up selling.
  14. Have to think the blister is still bothering him. I mean its also possible that he's not a 2.28 ERA pitcher based on his long track record of pitching and its a regression, but the fact that the slide started the game he had the blister and he didn't even miss his turn in the rotation makes me believe that its at least some of the blame. Hope the Cubs win this one but tough to beat a decent team 4 times in a road on the road. They had their 3rd win that they needed in the series on Monday and pissed it away.
  15. It does help that, per Tankathon the Cubs have the easiest remaining schedule in the National League and it's not even particularly close. 10 of the 11 easiest remaining schedules are AL teams, the Cubs being the one NL team
  16. Yes and no...with the rate the Reds are winning right now they are catching up to teams like the the DBacks for the 2nd best division leader (2 GB) and are right in line with 2 of the 3 WC teams right now. But if you consider the fact that they have still been outscored for the season and the Cubs are the only team with a positive RD, then yes we should be in first by 3-4 games. Really hoping the Reds upcoming stretch slows them down. 3 at MIL, 3 vs MIL, 4 vs SF, 3 vs ARI, 3 at MIL, 3 at CHC.
  17. Everyone said the Cubs needed to win 3 of 4 in this series to keep their season going. Maybe the calculus has changed a bit since the Reds are refusing to lose again, but they are in a position to do that. Either they win 3 of 4 or they lament the blown 6 run lead on Monday. Current positioning: 6.0 GB the Giants/Phillies in the WC (also behind Milwaukee and tied with San Diego) 7.0 GB the Reds in the NL Central. The Reds have 6 straight against the Brewers after this series (wrapped around the All-Star break), so they can gain ground on both teams. Though unfortunately the Cubs are playing the Yankees next who they are 4-23 all time against and have never won at either Yankee Stadium (0-12/0-8 in interleague play). Not that what happened in 1932 has anything to do with this year, I just like to point out the absurdity of this record.
  18. Iron Will (this is the Fremd football team's slogan of which Tauchman was a member)
  19. Kind of strange to see Yelich ease up on Tauchman's hit. Feels like he could have caught it.
  20. I havent checked the standings in awhile because the Cubs have been bad so I was starting to celebrate being 5 games out of first with a chance to make it 4 GB tomorrow. Then I realized the Reds have been winning a lot and we're actually 7 GB
  21. Cubs win! Do the last 2 games make up for the blown 6-0 lead? If we win tomorrow definitely
