  1. If Z could improve on his pitch count/walk totals and his mini-breakdowns, he could easily become a HOF pitcher.
  2. Someone with better Photoshop skills then I want to chop a "WHEEL OF EXCUSES" for Dusty/Hendry. Make like 7-8 BIG portions with excuses like "Fans were too loud", "Dirt from field clouded eyes of hitters", and then in a little tiny portion with no peg for it to land in, have it say "My fault"
  3. Only God knows why, but its pretty clear and obvious that Hendry makes no attempt to look for OBP in his FAs. His blatent disregard for such a vital stat is killing the team. I don't mean to be the OBP-gustapo (sp?), but if you look at the best teams in baseball (and I didn't) last year, and compare their stats to the Cubs, one glaring deficiency will be OBP. Hendry refuses to addresses it and instead looks in other less important and less quantifiable areas like speed and team chemistry. I don't know if its because he read Moneyball and assumed OBP was for small market teams, or maybe he is trying to find his own undervalued statistic to capitalize on, but one things for sure, he's not operating like the big market team that the Cubs are.
  4. We're not the Astros or Marlins. We are the stupid Cubs and we lack the requisite talent and brains to pull any sort of .500 season out, much less a playoff bearth.
  5. We don't HAVE to employ a DH, right?
  6. It's frustrating that we accept "transitional teams". The Yankees and Red Sox win every year, we make as much money as at least the Red Sox, yet we do not win. We barely ever win. In fact, we never win. We shouldn't accept transitional teams.
  7. Do the math. He's on pace to play 162 games and have 9 RBIs
  8. Speaking of rediculious. Before the season you wanted a quick fall from contention? Wow. Why is it ridiculous? I looked at the team and didn't see a contender, and the org. needs some housecleaning anyway so yeah, let's crash fast, take out the trash, and get ready for next year. Better that than some tragically halfassed darkhorse run this year. Doesn't need to be that fast, as long as its done by the trading deadline. I kinda liked how the Cubs teased us with that Cardinals series. I was starting to forget why I liked baseball and the Cubs, so at least they got a chance to remind me.
  9. Why are people so high on Barrett? Barrett is not a good CATCHER! So what he can hit the ball better then most catchers, but the one thing I remember from Miller's time in Chicago was that he was constantly being praised for being a great defensive catcher. WE NEED THAT. Why do you think the pitching hasn't been up to par since he left. I'm not saying that Barrett is the only reason, but I won't be the first person to say that he's made more then a couple very questionable calls behind the plate. Also offensively, Miller has picked it up since he left the Cubs in 2003. 2005: Miller - .273/.340/.413/.753 Barrett - .276/.345/.479/.824 2006: Miller - .337/.398/.592/.990 Barrett - .281/.352/.510/.862 No doubt Barrett is a better offensive catcher, but I'd much rather have Miller then Barrett.
  10. See the thing I don't like is when Dusty backers say 'Dusty doesn't call out a player to the media, he does it behind closed doors". Well maybe a player DOES need to get called out to the media. Maybe they need to feel slightly embarassed otherwise they don't get the message.
  11. It just doesn't work like that for the Cubs, I'm afraid.
  12. C - Damian Miller - .337/.398/.592/.990 1B - Nomar Garciaparra - .354/.416/.684/1.100 2B - Mark Grudzielanek - .309/.348/.407/.755 SS - Ramon Martinez - .290/.389/.355/.744 3B - Mark Bellhorn - .222/.300/.413/.713 RF - Moises Alou - .378/.436/.671/1.107 CF - Corey Patterson - .274/.314/.444/.758 LF - Kenny Lofton - .281/.337/.417/.754 Thats a decent team of "scraps" that were tossed aside by the Cubs between 2003-2005.
  13. Hilarious. I totally don't see that happening either. Technically we already have their #1 pick in next years draft. That's idiotic. I don't necessarily think I'm against trading Gordon, but if its for that I might just abandon Chicago sports completely.
  14. Just wanted to say that everytime I see that US Soccer commerical (the one to the tune of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame"), I get so pumped up for the World Cup. I consider myself a casual soccer fan, I love going to games, I try to keep up with what is going on overseas, but I could barely identify 20 international players with their current clubs. But I would consider myself a bigger fan then 90% of the US, and that commercial puts a charge into me everytime I see it.
  15. The Cubs will play crappy until Prior, Wood, Lee, Miller come back. Then they will play slighly above .500 ball and finish with like 75 wins. This will get Dusty an extension on the basis that "Dusty managed to recover a sinking ship and finish the season with promise for next year"
  16. Freedom isn't free. It takes folks like you and me
  17. Why? They are irrelevent. They aren't even in our league.
  18. I would exclude Barrett from the "core" of the team. In fact, I suggest trading him whenever you can.
  19. Well I always said, if your going to be good be great. If your going to be bad, be TERRIBLE.
  20. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?!?!?!?!! LOLOLOLOL!!!!!! THREE PITCHES THREE OUTS!!!!! YOU GUYS ARE THE MOCKERY OF YOURSELVES!!!!
  21. CANT USE YOUR SPEED IF YOU DONT RUN PIERRE. 2 pitches, 2 outs
  22. If we could just get 10 runs hear, it would really turn around the season. I'm telling you.
  23. I would literally do the happy dance all though my house. It'd be nice if we had a meaningful off day. Well we won't lose, so that's always meaningful
  24. C'mon Padres, haven't you done enough to us? Just leave us alone you jerks
  25. Lets drift into fantasy land: What would everyone's reaction be if they woke up tomorrow and the following moves were made: -Dusty Baker fired -Entire coaching staff including Rothschild and Clines fired -Neifi Perez, Glendon Rusch, Freddie Bynum DFA'd -Andy MacPhail publically put on notice To be honest, I fully expect something to go down tomorrow, but I won't get my hopes up because I'm used to being let down by the team.
