    Post of the day. Gotta win three of four. Totally agree. How can they be surging with that staff? They have been surging due to Reyes, Wells, and now Piniero all pitching well. Since the AS break Reyes has an ERA+ of 151, Wells has an ERA+ of 125, and Piniero has an ERA+ of 160 in his 3 start. Actually I didn't realize that, wow. Kip Wells in July and August: 3-2 3.28 ERA Anthony Reyes in July and August: 2-1 3.00 ERA Joel Piniero as a Cardinal: 2-1 2.84 ERA Braden Looper in July and August: 4-3 5.84 ERA Adam Wainright in July and August: 5-2 2.62 ERA Looks like the Cardinals rotation other then Looper is rounding into form. For comparison: Carlos Zambrano in July and August: 5-3 3.18 ERA Rich Hill in July and August: 1-2 4.68 ERA Sean Marshall in July and August: 1-3 5.20 Jason Marquis in July and August: 4-3 5.63 ERA Ted Lilly in July and August: 7- 1 3.66 ERA

    I'll leave out my negative thoughts about JH because this is not the point of this thread. Thanks Jim for resigning Z below market value despite the uncertain status of the team's payroll in the future.

    Yeah big difference. He is #15 in jerseys that people personalize with Theriot's name and number as opposed to premade jersey's like Carlos Zambrano and Aramis Ramirez. Still a great feat though.

All of those things that you mention have happened, and yet the Cardinals sit 2.5 games out of first place in mid to late August You are drastically over-simplifying my rant. Then why are the Cardinals 2.5 games out of first place in August? Is it because of talent? Is it because of experience? Is it not lucky that the Cardinals happen to be playing in a terrible division? Is it not lucky that despite being outscored by 63 runs this season, they are only 2 games under .500? Is it not lucky that their rotation is second worst in the NL, and their big bats are all having down years and they are still contending?

    a bomb. lol well played. I don't get you man. You claim to be a Cards fan, but you are neither obnoxious or mean spirited. They did win the World Series last year. If the Cubs won the WS last year, I'd have a tough time being either obnoxious or mean-spirited about this year. And then there's the White Sox. Cardinals fans have been obnoxious as long as I've known them.

    Heh, baseball is fun when both teams are in the race. You know what would be even more fun. One of your talented players gets hurt. Make it a real race. Like Pujols maybe. Or Carpenter or something... Please they really wanna play the pitchers being hurt card with us??? Yeah, Prior has been out all year for us. No sympathy ;)

    Heh, baseball is fun when both teams are in the race. This is more like a trip, than a race. The Cubs arent even on their feet to start the race. Gotta crawl before you can walk. The Cubs arent even at the crawling stage yet, they are on their backs with their feet in the air doing nothing but cooing Your right... One team is still under .500 The other has gone on a complete freefall and only managed to lose only 1 game in the standings during it. This IS FUN?!?

    I feel extremely dirty with the thought that despite going 5-10 this month we lose no ground in race and find ourselves only 0.5 out

    Funny thing is, the Cardinals "hot streak" is 7-7 in their last 14 games, and are just 10 days removed from a 5 game losing streak to the Pirates and Nationals. They have simply crept up on us due to the Cubs and Brewers being absolutely pathetic the last month or so.
