  1. Darn, I was really hoping he was going to come back, put the team on his shoulders and carry us, once again, to the playoffs.
  2. The Braves will give them trouble this weekend. As I said we'll have a 2 game lead by Monday. Can't happen as we have an uneven number of games from now until Monday
  3. I edited the first post for the changes to the rotations of the Pirates, Brewers, Marlins and Cardinals based on news and what ESPN.com has up for pitching probables. It looks a bit different than what I had yesterday.
  4. But they're not in a pennant race. I think the competitive balance should lie somewhere between playing like a playoff race and rolling over. Did the Phillies complain when we trotted out this lineup last September: Pierre, CF Bynum, 2B Ramirez, 3B Jones, RF Murton, LF Moore, 1B Blanco, C Cedeno, SS Walrond, P Besides, who the heck cares if Woody Williams was taken out of the rotation. Do you really think he was going to shut down the Brewers? Last year? That lineup was probably better than our freaking starters. Yes, I think woody williams and roy oswalt would have had a much better chance of stopping the crew than a couple clowns. Yes. The whole point is, if they were still in it they wouldn't be doing this, and also that they weren't in it before either when they faced us and we got their better starters. There's an inequality here that can't be muted. Woody Williams is terrible. Why not take their chances with one of their prospects and try to catch the Brewers 'off guard'. I was told the reason that they are doing this now is because they were officially eliminated from the playoffs on Monday. I know thats a joke because they were mentally done a month ago, but it is what it is.
  5. Ben Sheets may miss his next start,,,We are in fine shape. He may miss a lot more tha that, and dont forget that we face the Pirates this weekend and most likely miss Gorzelanny and Snell. UMFan83 has Zambrano facing Gorzelanny this weekend in his "Probable Starters" thread cubs.com also has Gorzelanny going on Sunday. Not only that but the unstoppable Zach Duke on Saturday. Career 4.20 ERA, but a 1.57 career ERA in 7 starts against the Cubs

  8. The good news is, they will likely matchup again next weekend
  9. Why would they just throw away $25,000? It's pretty obvious that on a first visit, the manager shouldn't have to call for a double switch before going to the mound. Apparently, according to Len they don't have to pay the fee
  10. Is it? Do you see the scrub the Astros are throwing out tomorrow. Guys we aren't really tied for first. We are as good as in second the way the Brewers are playing. The Astros suck and they're 12-4, soonto be 13-4 vs. theBrewers this season. The Brewers have 4 against Atlanta, 3 against St. Louis, and 4 against San Diego. This division is the Cubs for the taking. It all depends on how bad they want it. Look at the pitching matchups though. They do not favor us. Other than Hudson, Smoltz and Young, they face all really bad pitchers with over 5 ERAs. Hudson hasn't been good since May, Smoltz is negated by Gallardo (who has 21 straight scoreless innings) and Young has an over 4.00 ERA on the road. Meanwhile Lilly goes on 3 days rest tomorrow and Z's last 2 starts are negated by Gorzelanny and Harrang again

  12. I wonder if they change the flags now that the Cubs are in second
  13. Well enjoy our last inning of being in first place, because in 3 outs we will be percentage points behind in second, and who knows the next time we see the top of the standings.
  14. Nice job Kerry...we'll always have 1998
  15. Well maybe we won't be needing these after all
  16. Geez, did they make him raise his right hand and everything when he said it?
  17. LOL....second place is ours!
  18. Cliff's sole mission is to hit a HR here....but at 0-2 that doesn't look likely
  19. Im thinking a line drive stright to that ugly mug of his would do the trick. Too bad we can't make contact with his pitches
  20. Without him its a 4-0 game... Just sayin. He should have hit a grand slam
  21. Almost as good as Murton's
  22. So he has 2 more innings to go at least. Thanks for ruining our season again Reds
  23. Oops, I forgot he sucks
  24. Jones will go yard, I feel it
  25. WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUR PLATE DISCIPLINE!!!?
