  1. Just to play the parlor game... The piece attributes the quote to an AL GM. I'm not one to obsess over the Southsiders, but I could see Kenny Williams saying something like that. Stoney's recent comments about Harden not pitching at the same velocity/ease could reflect what he's heard around the Sox org, i.e. hearing directly or indirectly Kenny badmouthing Harden's health. Plus the reference to hearing what Piniella wanted (not that you'd have to be in Chitown to have "heard" that), I could see Kenny telling himself that as a way of reassuring himself about standing pat before the deadline, as in "I'm strong enough to run my ship, and not let my manager dictate irrational deals." Well it makes sense because he was the last person to see Harden when he was an A...the same start when people speculated his velocity was down and probably his worst overall start of the season.
  2. I wish we had prospects that like that, instead of career minor leaguers like Jason Dubois. :)
  3. Give the Cubs a break...a whole bunch of them have to catch a flight to NYC. Oh and also Lincecum is really really really good at throwing a baseball.
  4. Theriot has been better than Lee I think although Lee is back above .300 I believe but Jim Edmonds was definitely a spark when he hits homers and such, I think he had like 6 RBIS in 90 at bats for the Padres and has like 28 in 130 at bats as a Cub. Theriot has not been better than Lee.
  5. I feel like Dempster has Michael Wuertz syndrome. Gets a hitter down 0-2 and then nibbles his way into trouble.
  6. Sorry guys, the Cubs can score 3 runs off Lincecum and the Giants pen, but its not probable.
  7. Especially when the person thats driving the run home is the pitcher!
  8. Kazmir is a lefty :D  Whatever my point still stands :)
  9. Unlike Reed Johnson getting embarrased by Lincecum. Well we've already known and accepted that Reed sucks against righties, and Jim is pretty good against them. But when Jim is going bad, he looks awful regardless of which arm the pitcher throws with.
  10. Is it just me or does it seem like Reed Johnson somehow always gets in the starting lineup against really tough righties? He started against Halladay, Kazmir, twice now against Lincecum
  11. I like Jim Edmonds ABs that don't end in horrible Ks. Being so scared of him returning to his pathetic ways with SD, it actually warms my heart to see him fly out to LCF
  12. Funny inning for the Cardinals Ludwick leads off with a K. Pujols grounds out. Then the Cardinals put together a 4 run 2 out rally.
  13. Blah loaded the bases with 0 outs and only got 1 run. But it was Ross and Bailey hitting.
  14. It doesnt matter. He has a 4.13 ERA for the season as a setup guy on a team that already has 7 other All Stars. He was just booed off the mound at his home ballpark yesterday. I'm not saying Marmol doesn't have All Star caliber talent. It's just a really strange and awkward time to be named an All Star. Maybe this was Lou lobbying to Hurdle in an attempt to get Marmol's confidence up. Still really bizarre.
  15. Man I really hope the NL doesn't take a 5+ run lead into the late innings....
  16. Problem with that is, you start analyzing every single game looking for how we should be leading the division by even more games. And at the same time, we've won a few improbable games as well (the 10-9 game vs the Rockies, after being down 8-1(?), perhaps?). Been there, done that. No I know...I just brought that up because it was the most recent blown game that we lost and one that cost us two games in the standings to the Cardinals
  17. Obviously its playing the what if game, but imagine if the Cubs had one that game against St. Louis last Saturday. They would go into tomorrow with a 7 game lead on the Brewers and a 7.5 game lead on the Cardinals. Shoulda woulda coulda
  18. 5.5 and 6 up on the Cardinals and Brewers respectively.
  19. brewersbrewers tough game today huh? Wait brewersbrewers where are you??
