  1. Joey Bart DFA'd by the Giants. Remember how disappointed I was when I found out the original rumor that Bart was in the KB trade was wrong.
  2. There’s many reasons why the outcome might be different this year: 1. If you believe in the impact of a manager, the Cubs supposedly upgraded 2. Last year the Cubs fairly significantly underperformed their pythag record. Even if they played exactly like last year they should hypothetically have a better record. 3. The vaunted farm system is likely to have several guys ready contribute this year that were not ready last year 4. The usual luck related stuff like injuries can play a role in outcomes being different (so far so bad there) 5 The potential to do more at the deadline this year, with the assumption that the Cubs are more clearly a buyer Other things I’m missing I’m sure.
  3. Yeah I'd mostly agree with that. Clingan had a massive effect on that game. He probably helped his draft stock quite a bit tonight.
  4. Ugh, Smyly is totally going to be the 5th starter isn't he?
  5. There’s no reason the offense can’t be as good as it was last year if not better. They’ll have to outslug some teams but they’ll be fine. Can’t really take much from 2 games…if these games happened in mid-June it would just be one of those stretches.
  6. Counsell is sitting there wondering if the $8m was worth trying to manage a team with no pitching.
  7. I know we had to use the pen more than we wanted to on Thursday but Counsell needs To balance trying to get innings out of Kyle with having any shot of coming back in this game
  8. At least we get the Rockies at Wrigley next? it will be the 2nd straight series at Wrigley against the Rockies
  9. Today at least. I’m sure he’ll have vintage games too but definitely a little nervous especially with Steele and Taillon out
  10. We cannot afford Kyle to not at least be a number 4ish caliber starter
  11. That inning would have pissed me off so badly if it happened to the Cubs. First 2 hitters reach, 3rd hitter starts out with a 3-0 count, runners move over for out number 1 and didn't challenge when it was a close play at 1B. Then a sliding catch to save 1-2 runs, followed by strike 3 looking
  12. Damn Seiya nice horsefeathers. Didn't lose that one in the lights
  13. How the heck was it that close at 1B? Damn
  14. Kyle should probably pitch better. Just a suggestion
  15. Man I hate the camera angle at this park. Reminds me of the time they tried to move the CF camera at Wrigley for the 2016 NLDS.
  16. Steele injury update. Suppose it could be worse. just sucks because April is a tough month schedule wise
  17. Right. I can live with not spending money just to spend it but there was (still is) a real opportunity to basically take the division by the horns. Just have to hope that we can start to see more contributions from the vaunted farm system this year.
  18. FYI we have a Minor League forum with daily game threads here’s todays:
  19. Cool video of the Bears discussing who to draft with the pick they used on Hester Hester was of course selected with the Bears at 57 and become a HOF kick returner and added value on offense for a few years and a little bit defensively early in his career but not much. The Bears were clearly looking for a DB there as the other players discussed were DBs: Richard Marshall, picked with the very next pick by Carolina and Ashton Youboty, picked 70th by Buffalo. Marshall ended up having a 9 year career as a starting CB with solid stats but no Pro Bowls. Wouldn't have been a bad pick at all. Youboty played for 6 years but as a reserve mostly, no where near as much impact as Hester or Marshall.
  20. 100% agree with this. I rarely pay attention to what the announcers are blabbing about unless its a big moment in the game. The only thing I can remember the announcers talking about last night was their interview with Jung and I only remember that because Jung mentioned playing Fortnite which my kids heard and it caused them to cheer for him instead of the Cubs players. I saw the win probability thing but didnt really have an opinion on it either way. Certainly could have had more useful info there but whatever.
