Meh, Felix is a callup, and Reed hasn't gotten a start in awhile. Reed is more likely to contribute in the playoffs, while Pie is likely to be sitting in his recliner during the playoffs. What I'm worried about is the fact that Reed has started against righties lately instead of Edmonds. Either: 1) Lou is punishing Edmonds for sucking hoping to spark him 2) Jim is hurt 3) The Cubs have determined that Edmonds hot streak was a fluke and his skills are diminished 4) Cubs are resting Edmonds as much as possible before the playoffs.
If the Cubs have clinched HFA, why would they throw any of their starters on the playoff roster? I was assuming the Cubs would be pressured to maintain a shred of integrity for those games. I guess Randy Wells could pitch instead of Lilly and someone else instead of Marshall. Not a lot of precident for it I guess. Has their ever been a team thats already locked up their playoff spot forced to play a makeup game again a team trying to clinch a playoff spot?
Lets say the games need to be replayed but the Cubs have clinched HFA.... Mon - Game 1 - Lilly Mon -Game 2 - Marquis Tues - Marshall Cubs start the playoffs Game 1 - Zambrano Game 2 - Dempster Day off Game 3 - Harden Game 4 - Lilly So it wouldn't KILL our rotation to have to play those games. Lilly is the only starter effected, and he would be pitching on 5 days rest in Game 4. I'd imagine it would be ok to have our lineup be: Fukudome, RF Fontenot, 2B Hoffpauir, 1B DeRosa, 3B Johnson, LF Blanco, C Pie, CF Cedeno, SS
Its too bad the Cardinals play on the road on Friday. If the game got rained out tonight, it would be cool to see a 3 team DH with the Cubs and Cardinals playing during the day Friday, and the Cardinals and their next opponent at night.
Uhh...when? How can this idiot hold our season hostage? Let's just make the games meaningless and not play them at all The Astros might still need to play them. Also, very very superficial, but it would suck to end the season like 94-65 and not get a chance to reason our generation's high in win total.
It's impossible to be in his vicinity and not know about it. Casual fans think he's so cool and a celebrity when really he's a former bum who wears Cubs jerseys all day and says "Woo" a lot. He's also quite a boozer. I've seen him stumbling around the outskirts of Wrigleyville at 2-3 am quite a few times. Not that its a reason to hate him, but its a reason not like him.
You get right on the side of playoff preparation and say eff the Brewers. Run out the B team and if they lose, oh well. Exactly. Treat the game like we would have treated the HOF game. Yeah you're probably right. Normally I'd be all about the integrity of the game, but the fact that in that scenario, the Cubs would be forced to travel to Houston, sit through a hurricane, and not play any games, and then forced to delay their playoff series to play, for them, meaningless games. I'd say eff em too.
Well, they've already sold all the tickets. So long as they play an official game, they don't have to refund the money. No matter that there will be nobody there. If I was an Astros fan I'd be livid and probably less likely to go to games in the future due to their selfish behavior. Of course if the MLB just sucked it up and gave the Astros the money they would have gotten from the series, they could move it elsewhere and everything would be fine. Is there an Astros equivalent to NSBB? I wonder what they have to say. http://evilwontwin.yuku.com/forums/4 Not nearly as many posters though. Also http://www.crawfishboxes.com/ is their SB Nation style board

What would suck is if the hurricane caused damage to MMP, and the teams would be unable to play there. It's too late to get out of town and play somewhere else. So you would have to replay the games at the end of the season (if needed), which brings up an interesting hypothetical situation. Let's say the Cubs clinched HFA and have nothing to play for. The Astros finish 0.5 games behind the WC making it necessary to replay the games (DH one day, single game the next). The Cubs playoff series gets delayed and obviously the Cubs have no intention of ruining their rotation or tiring out their players. How do you play those 3 games and straddle the line between playoff preparation and integrity?
What sucks is this will force the Cubs to finish the season with 16 games in 15 days, 10 on the road and 6 at home all against teams with playoff aspirations.
I don't think it will be. Houston proper is too far inland. There will be some wind damage, but probably not to MMP or most major structures. Of course I'm not expert on hurricanes, I could be completely wrong. That is just what I've been reading.
So DH on Sunday and single game Monday? Honestly, this makes sense. The Astros get to play in Houston, the Cubs don't have to go to Houston until after the storm theoretically hits, and with the off day on Monday they can play the entire series. Does suck but we are pretty much locks for the playoffs. I would hate this a lot more if we were only a game or two up.
Count me among those who believe that Mclane doesn't really want the series in Houston but is playing hardball to get money from Selig. This series (at least the last 2 games) will likely be held elsewhere.
I for one am going to enjoy his many drive killing false starts this year. Apparently, he's a backup, but we'll see how long that lasts. I don't care how good St. Clair supposedly was last week...his starters job is in jeopardy
