  1. actually I think that is an overreation. I think there is a reasonable chance that Harden can get his velocity back. Even if he doesn't, he can still be a quality pitcher. I am very optimistic of the Cub's chances in the play-offs. LOL at this guy taking the above post seriously I am actually laughing at you for not appreciating MY sarcasm. I make a post that Harden's velocity is obviously down for 2 straight games, and suddenly I am proclaiming doom and gloom. I am the last guy to do that. I am the eternal optimist. Welcome to NSBB...
  2. Would Carlos Lee be back if the Astros made it to the playoffs? NLCS? WS?
  3. So, it appears that if the games cannot be played in Houston on either Sunday or Monday, which I find highly unlikely, the games would be made up at the end of the season if needed. Great have fun playing the Iowa Cubs. Sorry Brewers.
  4. Take out his outlier year (2005) OPS by year: .820 .872 .887 .860 .842 (injury year) .913 .820 HR by year: 21 27 31 32 8 22 21 (on pace) Obviously the biggest concern is he's been a .750 OPS hitter since April
  5. You think? Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
  6. He is similar to a lot of the sensationalist writers in Chicago, but he is more pompous, and I guess a lot of people hate that he doesn't show up to the clubhouse to cover games. He is the most obvious when he intentionally takes an unpopular side because he knows it will get the most readers and feedback.
  7. Also, everyone give DLee a break, he almost hit a home run last night
  8. It might in a short series, but then again he could get red hot in a short series, so I guess in the end you are right.
  9. Still not sure if its true, but everything that is said in that article seems plausible. Shady world of business. I'm just surprised that Cuban was made to look the fool. He seems smart enough to catch onto something like that earlier in the process.
  10. I'd laugh if the postgame interview went like this: Reporter: Rich your fastball looked a little slow tonight Rich: Gosh I know, you guys saw that too? I'm a bit worried...crap, interview's over, I gotta go talk to Larry.
  11. Yeah it does. Hmm... So the way to calculate the magic number is Leader games remaining (16) + 1 - difference in losses (67-58 = 9) So our magic number over the Phillies and Astros is 8 If the Phillies win Saturday its still 9 If the Phillies lose sunday its now 16 + 1 - 10 = 7 BUT Houston is still tied for the WC, and still % points ahead of Philly. And for us the magic number to eliminate them from the WC is still 8. So I believe the answer is no, it cannot. Are you talking about overall or just the division? If the Brewers lose, the number goes down. I'm talking about the WC
  12. Wrongo He does NOT get free tickets to every game. The tickets he gets are from other fans. He is a giant pain in the butt. Plus he's a prick to everyone who works there. Yes. He gets free tickets from other fans. Fair enough. I was assuming he thought the cubs gave him free tickets as that seems to be the common misconception among cubs fans i talk to at games. No but he did get free teeth from the local bar owners.
  13. I can say with 100% certainty that its not true. Richard Savage- 1908- is my grandfather. He's a lot smarter than you or I will ever be. Wow thats amazing. When watching his video, I was actually marveling at how "with it" he is for being 100 years old. You should be proud. Does he live in a nursing home? No. In fact he still lives alone although they have someone that comes in to clean. He still does his own taxes and writes a column for the Notre Dame alumni association newsletter. That's fascinating. I don't think I'll live to 100, but if I was going to, I would definitely want to be like him. The next story down about the woman that turned deaf and blind is just depressing and happens to way too many senior citizens for me to want to grow that old.

  16. If Philly wins tomorrow and then loses Saturday our magic number doesnt change does it?
  17. Someone start the next game thread. The title should be: "9/?? Cubs/???? @ ????/Cubs ?:?? ?M CDT ???/720. Game 1/?" And we'll fill in the rest as we go along
  18. Haven't they said that they're playing sunday and monday, they just don't know where? Yeah but who really knows. If they decide to play Sunday on a neutral site, when will they decide? Once they assess the damage? The hurricane will be at its worst Saturday morning into Saturday afternoon. If the power is out in Houston and flights are grounded (because likely the backend of the storm is still tropical storm intensity) when are they going to fly out and get to the site?
  19. I'm sure you were sincere, but this wins the award for backhanded compliment of the thread. We'll take them any way we can get them at this point. It's ok, I'm sure he knows that we aren't exactly playing our best baseball right now. Just as easily as you can say the Cardinals could have swept, you can say the Cubs could have swept. One pitch to Pujols, or one Mike Quade stop sign on Soto and we likely win game 1 as well.
  20. This is so bizarre to have no idea when the next Cubs game is. 3-2 in our last 5 games!
  21. This is what baseball is all about right here. Kerry Wood vs. Albert Pujols with the game on the line.
  22. Don't walk him and put the tying run on third. Kerry wants Albert.
