  1. Not directed at you specifically, but I love when someone doesn't get a chance to react to a move until several hours later after we've all calmed down, and comes out bitching. Makes me laugh.
  2. dexter, I think you aren't giving the Brewers enough credit. They should be a .500 or slightly better with Gallardo in there all season, and assumed improvement of Parra as their 1-2. Plus they should have some money to make a move or two in season.
  3. Considering Chicago's winter so far, there is not a lot of appealing reasons to be in this city right about now. Can't see why he'd fly all the way out here to goto a Jewel concert.
  4. Wasn't that the time where Theriot was on third and was thrown out tagging up because the fly ball was too shallow?
  5. Guys, the game was played on 4/20 too...so he was probably baked. Give him a break.
  6. i love how people make that "thrown out at 2nd base on a walk" thing into some completely idiotic move. didn't he just overslide the bag or something? oversliding the bag isn't idiotic? It was a mistake. It happens more than people let on. I don't really see how it's "idiotic". I think it was a big deal becuase A) it was the tying run in the 9th inning (I think, maybe the tying run was the person who just walked), B) Cedeno had already started a reputation of being aloof, C) Some people may go past second on a walk, but very very few get thrown out, and D) This was during the start of the 06 Cubs collapse It was 07 '06, 2 outs, can't wait to find out this happened in a playoff game. So sue me, I mixed up 06 with the mediocre first half of the 07 season.
  7. Why the hell was he at a Jewel concert? Are you sure he wasn't just spotted at a Jewel grocery store? If he was at a Jewel concert, I might have to change my opinion on acquiring him (no offense to Jewel fans)

  9. Looks like Garland is signing with Arizona:
  10. If anyone was thinking about going to the Brewers home opener against the Cubs on Friday April 10th (3 days before the Wrigley opener), the Brewers are running a lottery for those tickets starting today. http://milwaukee.brewers.mlb.com/news/press_releases/press_release.jsp?ymd=20090126&content_id=3773434&vkey=pr_mil&fext=.jsp&c_id=mil I am going to throw my hat into the ring and see what happens.
  11. I like it. I don't care about the 5th starter that much, but I do care about the 6th starter when Harden or Z or someone else goes down.
  12. Are people talking about the team collapsing? I haven't seen that. The Cubs have made a million moves without getting any better or positioning themselves to be better in the future. That's frustrating. There were some posts a few pages back saying that Hendry is going to be surprised that his team is a couple games over .500 halfway through the season. I agree its frustrating though.
  13. The Cubs shouldn't have made those moves with Peavy in mind unless they were pretty damn sure they would be getting Peavy eventually. Otherwise, you are stuck with wondering why you traded DeRosa for 3 lightly regarded prospects and are replacing him with 2 players making combined as much as him and neither as good.
  14. I don't like this trade, and yes it probably didn't improve the club long term but I think people are overreacting. I don't mean the people who are saying "WTH is Hendry doing", I'm talking about the people that think that Jim Hendry's poor moves will result in the team collapsing next year. As long as the Cubs stay relatively healthy, we will be good enough to make the playoffs. Since the playoffs are a crapshoot, its good enough for now. Would I love Peavy? yes. Would I love DeRosa back? yes. Would I love a power bat off the bench? Absolutely. But I'm not giving up on the season, just lambasting Hendry for tinkering too much with a 97 win team. But then again at the same time, I was the one in October that said minor changes wouldn't be good enough. Edit: Actually the thing that bugs me the most is the fact that Hendry has had his eye on this guy for years and seemingly would have done anything to acquire him. Just because he went to ND and you are friends with him doesn't mean we have to acquire him.
  15. My coworker just told me he read an article the other day that suggested that the Padres aren't interested in Olsen anymore. I am not sure if it's true, as he usually doesn't scoop me on anything, its usually the other way around.
  16. Money. But aren't reports out there saying we have $9 million to spend to get to our rumored $140 million budget, and are currently looking for a utility player to backup the IF positions? Even if that $9 million figure is incorrect, the fact that we are going to pay someone $2-3 million to backup 3B and 1B, while spending whatever we spent on Aaron Miles, it just doesn't make sense. Hendry must have learned that the Padres aren't trading Peavy or that it is actually a longshot.
  17. Why'd we trade DeRosa for 3 almost non-prospects again?
  18. Felix Pie and Ronny Cedeno for Aaron Heilman and that other dude in the Pie trade. Sounds about right ha
  19. I was actually about to post that you shouldn't assume the pitcher in the deal isn't just a throw in. And Olsen was one of the names I was thinking. Hilarious (and sad) that I was right
  20. Goodbye Rnny Ceen, hello yet another RH pitcher. I really wish we had another LH arm in the pen. Correct me if I'm wrong, but as it stands right now (with Marshall in the rotation) the only LH pitcher in the pen is Cotts, and who knows what we will get from him. Edit: I'm not upset about the trade, we improved our team. Just pointing out our lack of LH pitching in the pen.
  21. I was just looking at the Yankees roster today. Make no mistake, they are really good and talented, but look at their bench and their bullpen. They have front line talent but lack depth. Are they planning on using Hughes and Kennedy in the pen? Plus, if one of their position players gets hurt, they don't have much to back them up. Of course, they definitely have the trading chips to make a deal at the deadline, and rest assured they definitely will if their problems are exposed.
  22. Random thought not related to the OP, but I think Fred should use his mod powers to copy and paste his stats in the original post of every game thread he wants to post the daily stats. It's a nice reference tool to use, but sometimes hard to find further down page 1, or possibly in page 2,3,4,etc...
