I just don't get it. I don't mind that he has opinions on the Cubs, but he is obviously just jealous and bitter about us.

Your exactly right. The Cubs may not win a championship in my lifetime, and yet they may. The bottom line is, if you switched to another team and missed out on the Cubs finally winning a championship, you would never live it down. And if you die without the Cubs winning a championship, hey in the grand scheme of things does it really matter? Is your life a failure because a group of 25 man from around the world playing as a team based on the north side of Chicago didn't beat 29 other teams from around the country one year in your life? If it is, then you need to get out more. Winning a championship would be such a rush, such a high for me. I'd buy all the gear, the dvd's, etc. But then my life would go on. Last years playoffs taught me that over the winter. I got perspective that has been invaluable to me during the first half of this year. My girlfriend doesn't even ask me if the Cubs won or lost everyday anymore because she knows my mood won't be affected if they lose. I went way off topic there, but just wanted to share.

But we're talking about being a baseball fan. Obviously the chemical addiction of a drug compared to being a baseball fan is quite an exaggeration, but the fact is people are unhealthily addicted to a baseball team and cannot break said addiction even if they hate the fact that they are a fan of such a lousy team. It's like saying, if you hate being a fan of a team that's perpetually bad (historically) like the Cubs, why don't you just be a Cardinals fan?

Some people absolutely hate taking heroin, but they are addicted so they keep doing it.

I don't think ARam will be out for another month...probably 2-3 weeks. And we don't even know if we have the financial resources to make a trade bc of the sale. And if we do have limited resources, its pretty unlikely that we will give the go ahead to spend them given the way the Cubs have played. I think what you see is what you get. They are a team that is not one more away from competing for a championship.

I always thought DeRosa was a self centered jerk that's just there to cash a paycheck. (sorry I have to get adjusted to a new mindset regarding DeRosa...if I keep saying it, eventually I'll believe it.)

The loss stings right now but soon enough we'll be able to look back and remember that the US was ~25 minutes away from winning a FIFA sanctioned tournament that included Spain, Italy and Brazil.

I can't wait for the break to get here. A few days off to get away from the team, clear their heads and hopefully give them a chance to recommit themselves to what they set out to do this season might be what it takes to turn the season around.

Even though we lost that wad a fun backand forth game to follow. Classic Cubs-Sox battle. Things are a lot easier to accept and enjoy when you realize it's two mediocre .500 teams battling it out for city bragging rights. The Cubs can still turn it around but as it stands right now the Cubs are about a .500 team and have been playing like it basically all season.
