I agree. It was a bit cheap, and no doubt there was frustration involved with that shove, but it was obvious Hossa was trying to make a play on the puck. Like you said with 1 minute left in a pivitol game 5 with the puck in the Preds zone, it's hard to believe he was going around looking to lay out someone just because. It doesn't excuse the hit, which was cheap and illegal, but I don't think it deserves a suspension. He didn't even get a game misconduct for it. That said, the NHL can be really weird about stuff like this. The fact that he didn't get a game misconduct for the hit, and the fact that he bounced right back out of the penalty box to score the winning goal makes me worry the NHL will deem that he wasn't punished enough for the hit. You can bet the Preds are trying to frame this as Ovechkin-Campbell part 2 (their coach was saying he sees no difference between the 2 hits in the post game), and I wouldn't be surprised if Hamhius has an "injury" tomorrow.
