  1. After the game: Makes sense. Well yeah I didn't expect either team to blow out the other. And as I noted in the OP there were benefits to either team winning. There were just more benefits in my mind to the Jets winning.
  2. I can't chalk this up as a loss just yet. Again we have a lot going for us: home game, short week for them, emotional Monday night win. Pats are a great team but according to the rankings so are the Packers and Eagles and wr found a way to beat them. Your concerns about the short passing game are legit. Martz is gonna have to mix it up a bit. The offensive line cannot have a game like last weeks. It must be at least average to protect cutler enough to connect on some intermediate passes. As good as these Pats are, they found a way to get blown out by a mediocre Cleveland team. They can be beaten but it has to be a combo of catching them off guard, good game planning, and good execution.
  3. Sorry to inturrupt. I like that the Pats blew out the Jets tonight. For one it exposed the Jets a little bit. For another, people are going to jump on the Pats bandwagon this weekend. As we discussed there is a definite opportunity for a letdown on a short week for the Pats. Also, I expect basically every person in the media to pick the Pats this weekend. The Bears tend to play better when they think they are being disrespected. The Pats are a damn good team, but there are a lot of factors that are going in the Bears favor so far. Maybe we'll get a snow storm on Sunday. Who would that benefit more?
  4. Sanchez > Cutler
  5. So the bears beat the number 1 and 5 teams and lost to the 23 and 30 teams.
  6. Let's talk about who we want to win tonight. I have a couple of theories. I don't think either team winning really effects our chances more than slightly but... If you root for NE...a NE victory in such an emotional game would most likely provide some sort of letdown effect next weekend against the Bears. It's just hard not to. Then again, Belichick should have them ready to play regardless. Also, NE would only be up 1 game on the Jets, and tied the head to head so its not like the division is locked up with a win. They still have a ton to play for. If you root for the Jets...a Jets victory gives them a huge leg up in the division race. They would have basically a 2 game lead on the Pats due to having a 2-0 head to head record. Why is this important? Two reasons. While it makes the NE game tougher most likely, it also probably ensures their game against GB is more of a must win. Also, the Bears play the Jets in week 16. It's possible the Jets will have locked up the #1 seed at that point if they win today and could have nothing to play for. I think rooting for the Jets is a much better option as far as the Bears are concerned.
  7. You guys are all boring me with this discussion. /waits for someone to suggest that we start talking about power rankings
  8. Looks like its beyond just preliminary talking and instead has heated up. http://sports.espn.go.com/los-angeles/mlb/news/story?id=5892211 For the record, I would do that trade in a heartbeat if I was LA. And as a Cubs fan I hope that trade goes through (assuming we cant get fielder).
  9. Now Loney is talking about being included in a trade for Prince Fielder. Brewers would get Broxton and Loney, the Dodgers Fielder. i'm gonna start a thread for ti though.
  10. Looking at him like "Hey! That's the guy that hit that grand slam against us in the playoffs" I don't like that dude. Or looking at him as a potential acquisition? Because if so, just kill me now. I've read too many articles from dodgers fans about how he has historically low power numbers for a first baseman.
  11. The problem is our GM's idea of long range planning is to make all his biggest contracts backloaded so they fit into this year's budget.
  12. I just don't want to be in a situation where our payroll can get to $140m one year, so our payroll is at 138 mil, then we need to aquire a SP at the deadline, so the payroll goes up to $145, then we need to resign our 3B, so now it's up to $150. And then all the sudden we are spending more than intended, and become the Florida Marlins for the next 3 years while we wait for our payroll to go down. I wouldnt mind a $120 million payroll if we knew with a contending team we could go up to $140. Or I guess the best solution is to hire a GM that can plan for stuff like this ahead of time so that we don't have to wait 3 years for all the big contracts to start coming off the books.
  13. He's just trying to drum up fan interest for their remaining home games. All joking aside, if I was a lion player I would probably think that way too considering all the games they were close or leading late and blew.
  14. Yeah whoops, I forgot about that.
  15. I don't remember seeing Tommie. Olsen actually did a really good job blocking yesterday which is a stunner. There was one play that they pointed out of TV, but there were a couple more where he made a nice block either down field or in the backfield to extend plays. Hester was invisible in all fascets of the game yesterday. Knox didn't seem to get targeted a lot at all. If it wasn't for Bennett, the WRs would have graded really poorly yesterday. except for that punt he almost took back. [expletive] I forgot about that. Well...he got tripped up by the [expletive] punter for gods sake. Did you know that 65% of all tackles made by punters and kickers over the last 3 NFL seasons were made tackling Hester? OK I just made that up but still. :)
  16. Honestly, I don't mind a 100-110 mil payroll. We don't need a $140+ million payroll to be good. a 110 million payroll if you are spending good money on scouting and drafting should be enough. We opened up the pursestrings to $140 million and look what it got us....4 more years of Soriano, 3 more years of Zambrano, another year of Fukudome and Silva (bradley). We're stuck in limbo because JH threw a bunch of money at players that turned out to be nowhere worth that money. Bottom line, 1) I don't trust Jim Hendry to spend our money wisely. 2) I don't trust Jim Henrdy to efficiently spend on a smaller payroll. 3) I do sort of trust Wilken to draft for us as long as he is getting a big market budget to use on scouting and drafting.
  17. I don't remember seeing Tommie. Olsen actually did a really good job blocking yesterday which is a stunner. 18. Just want to point out that the Hawks did outshoot them 32-18 in that Vancouver loss, despite losing 3-0. Bobby Lu was pretty good in the game. Most times you win that game. That said, they didn't win so I agree it counts again them.
  19. You don't think it would have been all that bad if Jeter signed elsewhere? I think if there was some way they could have avoided spending that much money on Jeter without the public backlast they might have.
  20. No doubt this is an important game, but in the grand scheme of things its probably the 3rd most important game left in the season, with the top 2 being @ GB and @ Min. That said, a win here would make me feel extremely secure about making the playoffs. I definitely think it will be a close game, but I don't know how I would pick it.
  21. That's somewhat positive. I am hoping at worst it is a 2 week injury or something.
  22. I like the Michigan-Miss St matchup. It will be nice to play on New Years again.
  23. that's the reason why? I have no problem punting a game to the packers if its the last game of the year and we have locked up a bye. heck we did that in 2006. In 2005, we threw a game against the vikings.
  24. Passer rating is for losers. It has its flaws no doubt. But its a mainstream statistics that will effect the level of respect Jay gets in the media.
