  1. I'll bet you could figure that out on RetroSheet in less than 4 minutes !!! ;) I just went there but I think I've had too much beer to figure it out. I was just curious about the Cubs record on my birthday. I don't necessarily track such data on my own but I did see them play on my bday once (4/12/92) and they beat the Cards 4-2 on a 3-run HR by Hector Villanueva. \:D/ This is the slyest birthday dropping that I've ever seen. Happy birthday!
  2. Of course there was...Thomas Diamond is starting for Iowa today and he's on the 40 man. But for some reason the Cubs braintrust decided that their crappy middle reliever with a 5 ERA in his minor league career with an arm that could go for maybe 3 innings was the best option.
  3. Good...now we know that James Russell sucks at starting AND relieving. Can we get his ass off the team?
  4. im sure 2 other people will also respond but Hall hits one over Castros head for a base hit. 1 run scores, then Soriano misplays the ball in left, allowing Pence to get from 3rd. On the throw in from the cutoff man, they get hall in a rundown. Meanwhile, Pence takes off for home, the Cubs miss the tag on Hall, which would have been in time to preserve the run. Hall ends up on 2nd. 3-0
  5. LOLZ... that was a comedy of errors.
  6. Agreed.... and it sucks. He was one of my favorite guys last year. Too bad he got Nathan Vasher syndrome. Everytime I say I wish we didn't sign him, I remember that if we didn't sign him we were surely going to sign Niemi with the money. Not that I hate Niemi but Crawford has done just fine for us. So I don't regret the opportunity cost of signing Hammer.
  7. According to the name of the award, its not Best player, its most valuable. I'm fairly certain the Bulls would be worse without Rose than the Heat would be without LeBron. Dwight Howard has a legitimate argument, but I find it hard to give an MVP award to a guy who does absolutely nothing during crunch time. I'd argue the Heat drop off more without Lebron than the Bulls do without Rose. Wade, Bosh, and not another player worth a damn? That team might not make the playoffs. Do you think they'd have a similar dropoff without Wade instead of James? James, Bosh and a whole lot of garbage.
  8. There you go UMFan. ? I Would definitely take LeBron 1st have had said that multiple times
  9. I can't wait to see what they can accomplish in the playoffs. I hope they won't be a disappointment. Weird but Hollinger's power rankings have them as the 2nd best team in the NBA behind the Bulls and a 23% chance of getting out of the West.
  10. First to say it but you aren't the first to elude to it if you look at the OP
  11. Man I was just looking at James Russell's minor league numbers and wow are they mediocre. How does someone with a 4.68 ERA over 4 seasons in the minors even make a Major League roster, much less get chosen to spot start?
  12. Not watching.... Any reason Dempster was left in the game way too long for the 2nd time in 3 starts?
  13. I think it has to do with signifying how something will be remembered in 10, 20, 50 years, etc. when many people were not around to watch the season first hand. Winning an MVP award really bumps up the value of how a player is remembered.
  14. what does Sopel have to do with anything? He was painful to watch most of the season. He did show up for the playoffs it seemed like Hjalmerson had to bail him out a lot last season. What the Hawks missed was Keith being reluctant to block shots for the first 2 months of the season. Sopel's only value is he was good on PKs last year, especially with regards to getting in front of shots and sacrificing his body.
  15. He hit two balls hard that happened to be right at guys. You can't ask for much more. Well he needs to get better at aiming.
  16. Also, I am starting to think that the Cubs offense will be above average when all is said and done. It's gonna be up to our pitching to determine whether we contend.
  17. This thread is a testiment to the new attitude era of NSBB. Good stuff. Glad we got all our runs out of the way because we ain't scoring again this series.
  18. I think there has to be some subjectivity in the argument though, along with advanced statistics. I agree that Rose is not a clear MVP, but I think its fair that he's in the discussion. To me it doesn't seem insane that he would be the MVP like it did when Nash won it. Either way, I love that Rose has all but won it, and I don't care if hes not really the MVP.
  19. Random question.... Would you guys agree that Brent Seabrook actually had a better season than Keith? As far as the eye test goes, it certainly looked like it. His offensive contributions were better than Keith's as well. Bottom line is Keith had a really disapointing season and I hope he picks it up for the playoffs. Edit: Just one stat for comparison. In 08-09, Keith was +33 for the year. Last year he was +21. This year -1. I don't usually take too much stock in +/- unless there is a significant drop off like that.
  20. That picture just made my day.
  21. 10 pm here. Even suckier. Oh, and I don't get Vs. Great... Ahh..yeah I forgot...Vs. I don't get it either...joy. Actually, if I remember correctly, CSN showed some of the games early in the playoffs last year even when they were also on Vs. I could be wrong, but I think I remember Vs. only have exclusive coverage later in the playoffs. Yup...I believe game 1 is on CSN exclusively in the USA
  22. Hahah that's hilarious.....2 weeks ago, he said Rose wasn't in the top 5, then on Friday I believe he said Rose and Wade were tied for 5th and now he's 4th. Also, as recently as last week, Rose wasn't in his All-NBA 1st team. Rose had a really good week last week, but it seems strange at this point that he would move up like that, especially in light of his "defense is the Bulls MVP" arguments. Either way, I didn't like that people attacked Hollinger for not putting Rose as MVP. For a couple of reasons, 1 being that Rose isn't the clear MVP, second being that there is nothing wrong with having dissenting opinions. that said, it felt like Hollinger went against Rose because everyone was on the rose bandwagon and he got a lot of exposure for his anti-rose rhetoric.
  23. It's great to be in the playoffs, but that's why losing that game yesterday hurt. Would have had a much better chance of getting some home ice if they manage to get past Vancouver. Well of course we wouldnt be playing Vancouver if we lost that game. Unless you mean if we got past Vancouver in the 2nd round. The way I look at it is, we get to find right off the bat whether we can compete in these playoffs. We were going to have to face Vancouver in the 2nd round if we won, so might as well get them right off the bat before they have any momentum from winning a playoff series. The fans will tell you they are glad they got Chicago becuase they want to knock us out. But in reality I'm sure a majority of them wanted Dallas. If we can put any doubt into the minds of the Canucks players, if we can take 1 of the first two in Vancouver, if we can bully them a bit and get them off their game, it becomes any team's series. My gut says Vancouver in 6, but my heart says Chicago in 6.
  24. I would also love to face Buffalo, Montreal or the Rangers in the SCF.
  25. This is how the Pirates are going to end that 19 year postseason drought...by tricking their opponents into submission.
