  1. If we have another year like 2009, when Pisa, Urlacher and Hillenmeyer were out almost the entire season, we'll be screwed.
  2. LMFAO, did anyone see what happened to Ryan Braun tonight? For those that didn't, he had a great chance at an inside the park home run but lost his balance rounding 3rd and basically faceplanted somewhere between 3rd and home. He stumbled again while getting up and after a brief rundown was tagged out. http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=18664053&topic_id=&c_id=mlb&tcid=tw_video_18664053
  3. lol I was wondering why I couldnt find the game on any channels tonight. It was a day game lol
  4. You don't think Okoye will make the team? I didn't say that. I just listed the probable starters.
  5. i wouldn't take brady over cutler in this offense. you saw how bad he looked against the lions against pressure. Preseason. And how many INTs has Cutler thrown because of pressure the last 2 years? Don't get me wrong, Cutler has adapted really well with the constant pressure he's faced the last 2 years. I'm just not sure I'd take him over Brady.
  6. Meh. Do I think Cutler should be higher? Maybe. But I'm not going to argue them saying Cutler is 16th because in my mind Cutler is in a pretty close bunch with most of those guys. In terms of talent, he is way above all of them except maybe Bradford. But if you are looking at someone like Bradford who had a mostly good year as a rookie QB past year and you look at Cutler who threw 26 picks 2 years ago which led the league and is middle of the road in a lot of the QB stats people use to evaluate QBs, it's not completely insane for someone to put Bradford ahead. I wouldn't, but like I said I wouldn't pick a fight with someone who does because it's close enough for me.
  7. The Bears defense may be aging meaning that several of them are nearing the end of their primes, but other than Urlacher, I don't see any players where their age would dictate a decline from last year's performance. Idonije: 30 Toeaina: 26 Adams: 31 Peppers: 31 Briggs: 30 Urlacher: 33 Roach: 26 Tillman: 30 Jennings: 27 Harris: 29 Wright: 23 Would I prefer that the 3 best players on the defense be 26-27 instead of 30-33? Sure but none of those people besides Urlacher are at an age where you could reasonably expect a decline over last year. Now when evaluating the Bears defense over the next 3 years, you could say that they are aging of course. In fact, assuming Wooten comes back playing at a similar level as he was in training camp, I would think the defense can be better than last year's. Major Wright has gotten mixed reviews in the preseason, but I think he can ultimately be better than Manning. Jennings should improve over last year, Wooten and Melton give the Bears some nice depth on the D-line. The thing everyone should be worried about on the Bears defense is the linebackers. If you injure any of the 3 starting linebackers on the Bears, they are immediately screwed, as there is absolutely no depth there. There is only one backup linebacker on the Bears roster currently that has ever played an NFL game before, Brian Iwuh. The other guys are almost exclusively undrafted FA rookies.
  8. Geez Mike Fontenot's numbers suck. How is he still in the majors? Actually, what am I talking about? A .655 OPS is probably slightly above average on this team.
  9. I don't know why I think this is so interesting, but coming into today Soriano and Castro had the same OPS (.767).
  10. I am completely with you on this one. Pretty shocked that the Nationals are apparently not going after either guy. Baltimore is always a possibility. I could see the Pirates being a crazy crazy deep dark horse. I think the Giants will be in the mix as well. I will go on record now and say Toronto gets Pujols and we get Fielder. I dunno. Even if they have all the money in the world, people would simply prefer not to play in Canada. No indications that either of those guys feel that way but its possible.
  11. That could mean they finish 6-10. In all seriousness, I haven't seen anyone so far predict the Bears to make the playoffs this year. I think most media members contend that last year was a giant fluke, continuing the belief from last year.
  12. I'd rather watch a replay of the NFC title game last year than watch a 4th preseason game. If I recall correctly, last year Jay Cutler handed off 3 times and that was all we saw of the starting offense. Then the rest of the game is people about to get cut.
  13. Yup. OK and I jumped the gun on the second one. I just looked it up and Marino was 21 when he started his rookie season, but turned 22 before week 2 of the season, so I guess that one doesn't really count.
  14. I'm assuming you are being sarcastic, but if you weren't for some reason, I can think of two 21 year old QBs that have succeeded off the top of my head.
  15. The same organization that told someone they were being drafted and then didn't. Also the same org that verbally agreed to a trade but "forgot" to call the trade in. Interesting organization to say the least...
  16. And also, you cannot pick your own assistant, you must use Jim's old one.
  17. Pena joins the long ball party with an opposite field homer. 3 home runs in the inning and 4 in the game.
  18. Hmm...Blake DeWitt just hit a 3 run homer off of Tim Lincecum
  19. They lost 35-19 to Dallas, but were down just 21-19 heading into the fourth before the Cowboys pulled away. I don't think of 16 points - especially when it's a 2 point game heading to the fourth - as all that lopsided. Fair enough, but if you play that game you have to consider their game against the Eagles, where the Philly had a 35-17 lead with 6 minutes left in the 4th lopsided despite 2 quasi-garbage time touchdowns to make it close.
  20. If memory serves, -24 is still better than every team with a losing record. And the reason I think the Lions could make a big jump is that they really never got blown out last year (save the NE game). They were competitive in every game with Shaun Hill at QB - you switch him for Stafford plus a few other tweaks and you have a team with playoff potential. I think they lost by around 20 to Dallas too but I'm not sure the circumstances of the game.
  21. Holy crap I knew he was bad, but I didn't realize he was that bad. Edit: Oh yeah, and this guy sorta rips on Angelo and the Bears organization for wasting money and embarrassing incidents respectively.
  22. Yeah I think a big part depends on Stafford. From what I've seen in the past he looks legit. The point about the -7 differential is valid but take out the outliers (44-6 win against St. Louis, 45-24 loss against NE) and its a -24 point differential. They also lost a lot of close games last year, so then again their record could have easily been better than 6-10. We'll see. Certainly don't expect a 12-4 or 11-5 season, but 9-10 wins wouldnt shock me.
  23. I'll humor you just because all the playoff teams are pretty much decided 1 Boston vs. 3 Detroit - Boston in 4 games 2 Texas vs. 4 New York - Texas in 5 games 1 Philadelphia vs. 3 Arizona - Philadelphia in 4 games 2 Milwaukee vs. 4 Atlanta - Milwaukee in 5 games 1 Boston vs. 2 Texas - Boston in 6 games 1 Philadelphia vs. 2 Milwaukee - Philadelphia in 5 games (damn if things hold Milwaukee is going to be facing some tough pitching) Boston vs. Philadelphia - Boston in 7
  24. No doubt. That's why I said to take it with a grain of salt. She was very casual about what she said and none of the info was really all that different from what we've all read about. The only thing I'd take from it is confirming the Cubs interest in some of the names we've discussed. Just felt I'd share to 1)name drop ;) and 2) to provide the board with any tidbits I come across that aren't from the usual sources. I highly highly doubt I'll ever come across any really juicy info from her, and I would never ask her to share such info with me. I'm sure she gets enough of that from her friends that are Cubs fans. I don't mind asking her casually about the GM search and if she chooses to tell me something, then that's great.
  25. I remember watching the first quarter of the lions first game. I want to say it was against the Falcons. I just watched Michael Turner run effortlessly through the Lions defense almost untouched and that was probably the first time I thought the Lions might go winless. I remember a guy I work with tried to make a bet with me that the Lions would win the North after their 3rd preseason game and couldnt stop gushing about how dominant they looked. I will say though that this friend is the biggest homer I have ever seen in my life, for any city for any sport. That said, because of him, I have always been able to recall that 4-0 preseason and the resulting 0-16 season quite easily.
