Why? They're not any good now, their farm system is in the bottom 3rd of baseball and their ownership doesn't spend money. Good for them that somehow Maholm and Karstens have insanely outpitched their peripherals, but it's not going to hold up. I still think people like Alvarez and Tabata will develop into much better players than they are now. Also with fans starting to come back it's likely they can at least get their payroll into the $60 mil range. But you are right that their pitching has carried them and has been really lucky but I don't think they are going to just drop back to 95 loss awful rans after this ends.

Nah... The target audience won't actually watch the movie. They'll just look at the ticket sales and revenue stats to decide whether it's a good movie. \:D/ It's a good point. This doesn't seem like real good material for a movie. The people who are interested in this want detail, as in the text that actually describes how Beane conducted his business. And that's already available at your local Barnes & Noble. Beyond that, it's just seeing if Pitt can portray an interesting character. Worth the price of a movie ticket? For me, nah. Eh, the trailer makes it seem like it will appeal to the masses. The story seems like its going to be cash strapped club hires Beane for job, Beane struggling to compete with no funds, wiz kid boldly tells him what hes doing wrong using stats, beane takes a liking to him, making him his right hand man, buys into everything he says and tries winning with his method, team struggles at first, causing fans to turn on him and want him fired, eventually they turn it around and start winning...happy ending just before he has to trade mulder and hudson. -
If Marmol could pitch we'd still be unscored since last Sunday.

Meh, I can live with not bringing back the guy whose mistake ended out season and ruined an epic comeback against a team I hate.

Guess which one you've decided to do Dude he's better than us. He faced a pitcher who can bring it. That makes him the most qualified expert and his opinions should immediatelly be deemed correct.

Maybe it has to do with Marmol pitching horrible lately and blowing a winnable game by walking 4 batters on 17 pitches. Walking batters and then having a mental error by failing to cover home plate causing the go ahead run to score makes fans angry. When Wood came in, the Cubs were already losing so who cares.

wut? When Quade finally pulled Wood he barely got a smattering of boos, despite reloading the bases and giving up 2 more runs himself. There's a pretty clear distinction between who gets really booed at Wrigley and who doesn't. [expletive] white players rarely get anything close to what the non-white ones get when they [expletive] up. Regardless of skin color, Kerry Wood has given Cubs fans a lot more reasons to unconditionally love him. I don't know if I can get on this bandwagon either. Wood is a fan favorite for obvious reasons other than skin color and I'd say there have been plenty of white players who have been booed pretty strongly. Todd Hundley and Joe Borowski come to mind. Kevin Gregg, Bob Howry, Scott Eyre, Kyle Farnsworth at times.

This coaching OBP thing is a bit silly. Just because they didn't have a high OBP in their careers doesnt mean that they don't value it. Some players just aren't good enough but make good teacher.

Wow you went there. Obviously its not easy to do, that's why teams pay millions of dollars for players that do these things. You can play all the baseball you want, it doesn't change the fact that the large large majority of the games best hitters draw a lot of walks and accept working the count as a key to their success. Me not having experience working the count against a good pitcher has nothing to do with this.
