  1. I bet you couldn't see them beating the Phillies either.
  2. 0-1-1 that is. I hate shootouts. I feel like we win like 25% of them despite it basically being a crapshoot 6-5 last year, 9-6 in 2009-2010, and 4-7 in 2008-2009. Totals 19-19 after tonight. I hate you. I said it feels like 25%...I'm a natural pessimist :)
  3. He's failing to realize that the Bobby Valentine-type threat would be coming from the Cubs in this case, not the Red Sox. The Red Sox are clearly the White Sox if we're to make a parallel with that scenario. Well, his response to that will be more stuff about GMs being 10 times as valuable as a field manager, and therefore should bring much higher compensation. That might be a good argument if it was actually 10 times as difficult to find a GM, but of course it isn't. Also they completely ignore the fact that the Cubs are offering him a damn promotion. Are the Red Sox going to make him the President of Baseball Opps anytime soon? Not likely, so why the hell are you trying to stand in the way of the guy who brought you 2 WS titles getting the promotion and raise he deserves.
  4. More. I guess he is posting his responses to our points we made back on his own forum where he would get pats on the back from his homer Sox fans. Sure didn't respond to any of our arguments here.
  5. lol, I knew that Red Sox guy would crawl back to SoSH and post his tale of his visit to NSBB. Guess he didn't want to learn anything while he was hear, he just wanted to tell us how we should be acting. Also, I don't think a single person here suggested that we wait a year with an interim GM, I could be wrong though. The consensus is that it would be pretty stupid to do that, and we'd rather move on if the Red Sox vindictively screw us out of Theo.

  7. We'd better get at least a point out of this.
  8. [expletive]. This whole thing is in doubt. I give it a 25% chance of occurring. /CC
  9. That's good if true.
  10. Apparently the job he did this year with a group of AAAA players and has beens really opened eyes and became more legitimate around baseball. I know I heard rumblings that the Phillies wanted to groom him to take over after Manual leaves/retires. This is good news. I have faith he could be a great manager but I don't want to hate the guy and want him to lose his job. I don't know many fans who don't hate their manager...outside of maybe some TB fans I know. With a manager like Ryno, we all would. Don't avoid hiring Ryno because of that. There are tons of examples of teams hiring former stars as manager and obviously most of them were fired at some point and I don't believe they are forever tainted in the eyes of fans. I know for a fact that Orioles fans are still unbelievably fond of Frank Robinson and he drove that team to the ground way back when. Not sure if im thrilled with his philosophies in general but I'm not anti-Ryno because I dot want his legacy to be tainted in the eyes of Cubs fans. Flip tha around, how would Ryno be regarded if he was the manager to break the drought?

  12. Didn't the White Sox announce the Robin Ventura hiring during the playoffs? I honestly don't think MLB cares when it's announced. Nothing can be announced during the World Series. The rest of the playoffs it doesn't matter. The MLB was livid when ARod's extension was announced during the WS and since then I believe its a rule that nothing can get announced. Would it really matter if it just waited until after the World Series? Well organizational meetings happen right after the WS don't they? I guess it could wait until after, but every extra day we have for Theo to get started is to our advantage. He needs time to build his player database, scout potential hires for his baseball opps, learn the Cubs system inside and out, decide what to do with Quade and if they get rid of him, find the next manager. There's just too much to do right now to be comfortable with waiting another 7-10 days for this to get resolved.
  13. The thing that angers me about the Red Sox fans is that they are trashing on the Cubs system like its the worst system in the MLB, and despite the lack of MLB ready prospects and a disappointing year from a lot of pitching prospects, it's definitely not. It's not in the upper half but if you look hard enough they will be able to find 2 prospects with mlb upside that we are willing to part with.

  15. That's just not at all accurate. Lucchino is his mentor and the one who actually brought him to Boston in the first place. John Henry gave him his first GM job for his hometown team. Not only that, but he's been given complete control over Boston's baseball operations. Also, I still fail to see how the Cubs going with an interim general manager makes any sense. Here's this from SOSH: That's what awaits if the Cubs don't play ball. It's like the part in Moneyball where Beane is trying to convince Omar Minaya to add Youkilis into the Cliff Floyd trade. He tells him something to the effect of: "I can see the Boston papers now: 'Larry Lucchino misses out on Cliff Floyd to keep fat third baseman in Double A'" The Cubs knew that Theo would come at a price, that he'd require a fair amount of compensation and now they're getting sticker shock. You can't just have one of the elite general managers in all of baseball when he's under contract. A price has to be paid. Holding out hope that the Red Sox will "blink first" is amateurish. Missing out on getting him would be a disaster. The Cubs are offering Theo a promotion and your owner already said that its not their position to demand compensation when a guy of theirs is leaving for a promotion. So if anything you should feel lucky that the Cubs are willing to even offer compensation. Also how is negotiating a fair package amateurish? A ball club does hundreds of "blink first" negotiations every year and this is no different. Your posts have taking a taking a turn from fair and open minded to frustrated and resentful. Also, people here are not going to take you seriously unless you address the points that our posters are making instead of just rehashing your 'you guys are being unreasonable' argument every single post. I actually agree with you that it would be silly to have a temporary GM in place for a year while Theo spends his last year in Boston. The Cubs won't do that. If it doesn't work out between the Cubs and Red Sox, the Cubs will go a different direction and be done with it. Although I'd love Theo, I am fine with that because Ricketts has shown that he will make the right hire and not hire another GM with a scouting background like Hendry.
  16. We all knew this was going to happen when the negotiations started so it's silly that this is such a big deal. Im gonna guess that Ricketts is going to lose his hard on for the Red Sox after this. Castillo Jackson and cash seems more than fair to me. Anything more and its just Lucchino being a dick and is swept up in his imaginary leverage. I'm not sure I'm willing to lose Theo over something like Brett Jackson, but at this point it's principle.
  17. I wish I could set up an auto reply on my account whenever someone posts about the Marlins and Ozzie. "tampering" At the same time I only heard that from one reporter and that was 3 weeks ago.
  18. First senior class to graduate without losing to Michigan in how long? Oh well they will be bak to little brother eventually. 0-4 since Mike Hart made those comments though.
  19. Honeymoon is over for Hoke. Done everything right so far but making a risky play call in a critical situation to lose the game against your in state rivals is gonna give you tons of criticism.
  20. It's a big problem for Denard's wobbling ducks. Denard isn't in the game at all. Play Devin. They said o the radio that he hurt his hand on that drive and pulled himself out.
  21. Gah just finish 8-4. Not sure the team I saw here today could beat illinois or nebraska
  22. This is hilarious. I've been listening to the UM call of the game bc I'm driving to Cincinnati and this entire damn game the announcers can't stop talking about the wind. Which is ok because it's pretty heavy. But the funny thing is that they keep making a huge deal of it constantly. Every special teams play ever time someone passes anytime there is a timeout talking about how important it is to avoid challenging the wind at all costs. The funny thing is that there has barely been much effect at all on any kicking play and Cousins hasn't had that much trouble at all. So during the break between the 3rd and 4th, a fan was trying to kick a 40 yard FG into the wind for a promotion and apparently it went right through with no issues. Meanwhile in the 1st they were saying that UM shouldn't kick a FG over 30 yards.
  23. Gah. I was really hoping UM could compete against State this year. They are just wearing um down. I love Denard but UM needs a QB that can actually throw accurate passes. Otherwise a good D like this will shut UM down everytime v
  24. UM got [expletive] screwed on a replay and MSU takes advantage to score a TD.
