  1. Regarding the Urlacher injury, where do you guys stand on the issue of weakening 2 positions by sliding Roach to MLB and have a backup at OLB vs. leaving Roach at OLB where he's played all year and subbing someone at MLB?

I realize that kickoffs are the most dangerous play in football but what the hell. I'm sick of Goodell making these drastic changes to the league in the name of safety then turn around and double the number of Thursday games an allow 4th rate replacement refs work for an entire month. He is without a doubt a walking contradiction. This guy is such a horrible commissioner.

    NFL Week 13

From Deadspin...the 3 week career of Ryan Lindley:
  4. Guys, I'm pretty sure its called "Rule V" *ducks*
  5. if you make the assumption that this plan works perfectly and we have the best organization in baseball in four years, we'll be okay with basically anything. that isn't particularly likely, though. that's a good point. I should revise that to say that if the team's headed in the right directon when he leaves, and the team is clearly better off than it was when he started here, I won't be that upset if he leaves. I feel like the true value of Theo is setting up the organization to get into that position, rather than putting the final touches on a potential contender.... ....which is ironically what he did with the 2004 Red Sox

    NFL Week 13

It's probably something along the lines of having the ability to quickly process a lot of information, and still come up with the right answer in spite of that short time frame. Example: let's say you have 100 people who can get an A on a given test. How many of those A's turn to B's if you put a time constraint on the amount of time to answer each question. That might be an analogy for college versus pro defenses. That's an interesting thought. It could explain how some QBs seem to have less physical tools than the top of the line QBs but churn out decent to good careers, and others are blessed with immense physical tools (Jeff George, Ryan Leaf, etc) but never figure it out and quickly becomes backups or are out of the league in a few years.
  7. Lou Holtz, Digger Phelps, Michael Golic? I'm jumping into this convo without knowing anything about it so don't mind me. Please don't. You bitch about me discussing ND 2 days ago and then jump into a discussion with frankly a stupid addition. And I didn't bitch at you for discussing ND, just for flying off the handle whenever ND haters riled you up. Don't assume that everyone that posts here shares your crazy angry reactions. At no point has my blood pressure increased or have I been throwing things in anger. I'm mostly laughing at some pretty dumb comments. You have a weird way of showing your level headedness then because half the posts about college football this year are you responding to every anti-ND quote as if its your duty to defend the honor of ND. You certainly approach things differently than Andy. Anyways, this is getting much farther than I ever intended it to go. I respect you as a poster and think you are a valuable member here, I just couldn't resist making a snide remark about how frustrated it seemed you were getting whenever ND was brought up. Didn't mean to start a war/burn a bridge with you.
  8. Honestly, I wouldn't be that upset if Theo bolted after 5 years for some reason. Assuming the plan works like its being set up, the infastructure of the entire organization will have been upgraded and presumably be among baseball's best. Even the most gung ho Theo fans would admit that the moves he made to keep the Red Sox as a contender were iffy for the most part, and his biggest strength lies in talent development.
  9. Don't worry...the anti-ND bias in the media will prevent him from becoming one of the highest finishing pure defenders ever. Still waiting for all those pro-ND media members you were touting. NFL Week 13

I was just thinking about this the other day. There has to be some unseen or underappreciated variable out there that can help project QB prospects better. Maybe down the road somewhere, someone will find something that will more accurately evaluate the pro potential of QBs. Other than the can't missers like Peyton, Marino, Luck, etc the rest is a giant crapshoot.
  13. I'm not the one who started the "snarky comments implying which direction we think the team should go" tangent. I'm just the best at it. Just like Juan Pierre is the best at grounding out to 2B
  14. My biggest issue with Brenly was his obsession with telling everyone who caught a foul ball to give it to a kid. Its a nice sentiment but there were times where the cameras would go back to that area and Bob would repeatedly beg for the ball to be given to the kid.
  15. A quirk I totally understand. But we all have our crosses to bear, and I've learned to mostly deal with the backflips people will do to justify the Cubs' front office's actions. Yeah people were so over the top in praising Theo for the Navarro signing. And it was rediciulous how everyone wanted Cespedes/Darvish/Hyun-Jin and then we didn't get him and the mantra changed to 'Those guys suck anyways, obviously Theo just saved us here'
  16. It's amazing how touchy people get about things that are either factual or at least undisputed. What? That Theo handpicked Cherrington and people think Cherrington sucks? Sure the first part is a fact. But there's only one person continually pointing this crap out in every single thread. And its seemingly all posted with the inferrance that people are blindly in favor of everything Theo does and refuse to accept that he can make a bad decision, or steer us in the wrong direction, and that is not fact at all.
  17. So players who will probably be on the injury report: WR Bennett WR Hester WR Jeffery RB Forte G Spencer G Louis LB Briggs LB Urlacher CB Jennings 7 starters and 2/3rds of our WRs. Remember back in 2010 when there were weeks towards the end of the year when there was NO ONE on the injury report? Last year we were crushed with 2 major injuries (Cutler and Forte), and this year we are being taken down by all the depth around these impact players going down.
  18. I can't believe how dumb their fans are to eat that stuff up. Just because your front office says really smart-sounding things to justify their moves doesn't mean you have to believe it, guys. Edit: I've got a better one. What an idiot! I'm sure glad the guy who handpicked him to be the heir apparent in Boston isn't choosing the people to run our franchise. Can we just change your title to "Theo hater"? I don't care if that's really your intention with all this crap you post.
  19. Yeah, I think the Red Sox are in trouble.
  20. They couldn't possibly start the season in 10 days could they? If they did there's going to be at least 2 months of terrible hockey and injuries galore as the players play themselves into shape. Yeah that was the talk before that it would take about 10 days to get things cranked up. Seems crazy. I think the NBA had about 16-17 days last year. But that's what they've been saying. And at this point games are only cancelled through December 14. And sure there are probably some guys who are out of shape and susceptible to injury, but there are a couple hundred or so guys playing overseas and many more in the AHL. And there are a lot of informal workouts being held by the players. So I think that concern is probably overblown. I'm seriously bummed out without the pucks. My optimism is therefore probably over the top here, I admit. Actually the NBA had a full month. The agreement was reached the Friday after thanksgiving, the lockout was officially lifted the next Monday or Tuesday and the season started on Christmas. That said, the NBA still had to have a short FA signing period but I think camp started later that same week.

  22. Was coming to post this so I'll just paste in the quotes I was going to post:
  23. That's silly. Anyways if it was true I'd be worried about how he'd handle pressure in meaningful games if he couldn't handle a contract negotiation.
  24. I just think its funny he toiled as our 4th/5th OFer for 2 years and several years later is a coveted FA worthy of that kind of deal.
