  1. Hell horsefeathers yeah Puli
  2. Dammit a crossbar for Musah. Almost 1-0
  3. Like I mentioned yesterday, only 3 of our last 41 games have resulted in a 9 inning win by more than 2 runs. Last by more than 2 runs was that 7-1 win over Atlanta I think. May 15?
  4. That’s 14 base runners and 2 runs this series
  5. I'm not sure they can play .500 baseball and still be in the WC hunt until the very end. Lets say "in it until the end" means within 3 games of a playoff spot at the end of the season. Over the 2 years the current postseason format has been around, the average record of a team that finishes 3 games out of a WC spot is 84-78. While the Dbacks and Marlins made it with 84 wins last year, every other WC team has had at least 87 wins. To hit 84-78 and "stay in the race", they'd need to go 52-43 the rest of the season. To actually hit the mark that the average WC3 team is at, they'll need to go 55-40. Now I know the NL only had 4 teams that are more than 1 game above .500 this year, so its possible the 3rd WC team is actually around 82-84 wins. But there are 8 different teams that are between 1 game over .500 and 4 games under .500. Basically a bunch of teams are bunched together playing for 2 playoff spots right now (WC2 and WC3). I think its pretty safe to assume a couple will drop off the map (maybe Washington and Pittsburgh), but I would also assume a couple of them get hot as well. The Cubs might be one of those teams, but if they aren't, playing .500 ball for the rest of the year is likely going to have them out of the race by mid-September.
  6. Dude has a 1.58 WHIP this year and literally has just 3 appearances this year (out of 26 games) where he hasn’t allowed a baserunner. I know the options are meager but there is no world where the guy who is the worst on the team at preventing batters from reaching base should be closing games. You might be able to get by with him with a semi-competent offense but every single game he comes in is a nail biter due to the Cubs complete inability to pull away from teams. As I mentioned earlier, over the last 41 games the Cubs have won a 9 inning game by more than 2 runs just 3 times. That’s absolutely insane to me. Completely unable to win a comfortable game meaning that unless the Cubs are getting blown out just about every inning the Cubs pitch is high leverage or close to it. edit: and of course TT comes up with logic about Neris right before my post. I still think he’s a problem regardless of how he’s pitched over your sample size. The season numbers are the numbers. But I also agree as I alluded to above that it’s not fully his fault, this game was really on the offense and the stupid errors like Amayas. Yes Neris should have not given up 4 runs but the offense should have put up 5-6 runs today. A normal team wouldn’t have even had to use their closer today
  7. 4-6 to start the 25 game stretch against sub .500 teams with all 4 of the wins coming by 1 or 2 runs
  8. This is on the offense. Unbelievably poor showing. Yet another game that was right there for the Cubs to win but they couldn’t help but blow it with poor relief pitching, terrible situational hitting and inexplicable unforced errors like Amayas kicked ball. I’m sorry but you can’t consistently shoot yourself in the foot for 2 months and call it a cold spell. Maybe I’m wrong and there’s a 2023 like hot stretch in there but I think this is just the 2024 Cubs identity
  9. The existence of the 2024 Chicago Cubs is so pointless ”Hey you know the guy that literally cannot stop putting runners on base every single time he’s in? Let’s make him the closer!”
  10. Thank God Seiya didn’t drop that one
  11. Don’t make me add to my list of Cubs leads/ties that were immediately blown in the first inning the bullpen pitches
  12. What the horsefeathers was that? Unbelievable
  13. To add to this, I just realized that one of those 4 wins was in 10 innings when the Cubs randomly put up a 5 spot (and gave 2 back). So only 3 relatively unstressful Cubs wins over their last 40 games. To compare, in the Cubs first 26 games they had 9 wins by 3+ runs
  14. Lots of baserunners, not lots of runs. These are the types of games that are unnecessarily stressful with our crappy pen looming 2 runs on 9 hits and a walk tonight. In our last 40 games, only 4 have resulted in a Cubs win by more than 2 runs
  15. Bote showing these guys how it’s done.
  16. Happ is 1 for his last 17. “Hot” streak over? At least the one hit was a 3 run double in a rare Cubs win
  17. I know every fanbase complains about not getting runners home from 3rd with less than 2 outs but dammit Tauchman
  18. Have to say that while I haven’t watched the Cubs a lot lately, when I have it looks like Amaya is hitting the ball with more authority.
  19. You are right in that the Cubs are in a group of 8 teams that are all within 2 games of each other and fighting for 2 playoff spots. You are right that we were in a worse situation last year and managed to barely avoid being sellers by ripping off a 50-28 stretch (essentially playing like a 104 win team for 2.5 months). So as of right now they shouldn't sell. If they are in a similar position at the deadline they should buy. But chances are, out of those 8 teams, 2-3 of them are likely to go on a run (and the Cubs could absolutely be one of those 2-3 teams that get hot.). And most of those 8 teams will also possibly buy. I'm not even sure what my point is other than the fact we're going to likely have to play quite a bit better over the next 6 weeks to remain in similar playoff positioning. Last year we dug ourselves such a big hole that we had to play like world beaters for almost half the season. This season the hole isn't as big but we're probably not going to be able to play .500 baseball and expect to buy when we get to late July and teams are starting to sell off.
  20. Haha yeah, but my kids didn't care. He had a couple of good touches within the first few minutes of entering the match and created a chance or two but seemed like Argentina went into a bit of a shell afterwards. Had one free kick everyone was holding their breath for that sailed over the net too. Either way my kids lit up seeing him warming up and then getting into the game. Also my last name is DeMaria and my kids believed for at least a year that Di Maria was related to us despite me insisting otherwise. But they still love him and were thrilled to see him score. All in all worth the cost of going. Edit: Also, apparently my kids were on TV for a good 5 seconds just before the match started so I had people texting me pictures and videos of it 😂
  21. 4 times in the last 6 innings the Cubs have had a RISP and haven’t scored. They did score in the 2nd but still had 2nd and 3rd with 1 out and didn’t score again.
  22. I see we are having one of those games where we nurse a medium size lead, consistently get RISP but don’t score them leaving us in a position for the pen to blow it
  23. Awful ab for morel with 2 RISP and 1 out. When the reds come back and make this close, I’ll remember that ab
  24. Who the horsefeathers cares 😂
  25. On the plus side my kids finally nagged me enough to agree to spend a ridiculous amount of money to see Messi at Soldier Field tomorrow. Watch him not play.
