  1. Yeah that’s just never gonna happen with a Jed Hoyer team. He’s made it clear that he doesn’t operate with urgency and/or make moves that are a bad value in his mind. I know you already know this, I suppose I’m just stating the obvious. Plus I mean like come on the Cubs are not 1 bullpen arm away from being fixed. It’s sadly not even their biggest issue on the team arguably.
  2. I've done this thing lately where I consciously don't watch or follow the Cubs game. But I'll always end up checking the score around the 7th inning, see that they have a small lead and get sucked into watching only to spend the next hour annoyed. Not going to make that mistake tonight now that they've fully blown it.
  3. And the lead is officially blown. Nice job as always bullpen and offense
  4. I'm just shocked that the bullpen came in and is about to immediately blew the game. Just crazy and unexpected.
  5. Here is my annoying negative stat of the day: Here is every instance of the Cubs having a lead of more than 2 runs over the last Cubs 25 games in a 9 inning game: 1. June 9th at Cincinnati - Held a 3+ run lead from the 1st inning to the 7th inning That's the whole list. If you want to include extra innings in there the list expands to 2 games with the Cubs May 28th game at Milwaukee where they held that lead in the 10th inning.
  6. Steele ERA back down to 3.22, roughly where he has been in each of the last 2 years (3.18 and 3.06). Probably jinxing this if he comes back out but he's allowed just 2 ER in his last 4 starts (covering 25 IP). We'll tip toe around the part where he's allowed 6 additional unearned runs in those starts because dammit Seiya.
  7. Yep, lots of high stress innings, almost no margin for error. Tough situation to be in every inning of every game.
  8. Yeah this is pretty much a carbon copy of the other 2 games in this series and really about 70% of all Cubs games since late April
  9. Here are some of Neris' ranks this year on the Cubs current pitching staff: FIP: 5.14 - 2nd worst on the Cubs behind Hendricks xFIP: 4.99 - Worst on the Cubs K% - 20.9% - 3rd worst behind Hendricks and Taillon BB% - 16.5% - 2nd worst behind Little HR/9 - 1.05 - 4th worst behind Hendricks, Smyly and Steele HB/FB - 12% - 2nd worst behind Hendricks ERA - 4.21 - 3rd worst behind Hendricks and Little fWAR: -0.5 - 2nd worst behind Hendricks (-0.6)
  10. I don't follow the Hawks prospects closely enough. How are they with blue line prospects? Seems like most of the guys I hear people excited about are wingers. Don't get me wrong the Hawks are not in a position to do anything but choose BPA at number 2, but would be nice to have an exciting defenseman in the system if that's the route they go.
  11. Lot of soccer fans in the US these days. I saw something yesterday where the country who purchased the most second-hand tickets for the Euros was the US, even more than Germans. Not sure who has access to the Other Sports board on this forum these days, but if you look there's an entire Soccer thread there. Pretty nice when you can start your team with Mbappe, Vini Jr, Bellingham, Modric and Rodrygo. Would still take Man City, but its close.
  12. I was watching USA-Brazil and avoiding the Cubs game but when that game was over, my kids wanted me to put on the Cubs game. Personally I preferred to avoid the Cubs emotional roller coaster today but I put it on for them with 2 outs in the bottom of the 8th. Saw the last out of the 8th and figured they couldn’t blow it again (Lucy + football = me). Neris got the first out easily. Seems like he often gets the 1st out without trouble. That sucked me in emotionally more and then things tuned sour leaving me to once again become emotionally invested in a Cubs game.
  13. Am I missing something here? Like most LHB Bellinger doesn't hit as well against lefties than he does righties but he's actually pretty decent over his career (.780 career OPS vs. .846 against righties) and has 54 career HRs vs left handed pitchers. Or are you just saying it was a cool moment to see in person, made slightly cooler because it was against a type of pitcher hes a bit less likely to homer against?
  14. That was the most textbook 2024 Cubs game ever 1. Put themselves in position to win with solid starting pitching and just enough offense 2. Due to both bad hitting and bad batted ball luck, completely unable to extend the lead in the late innings leaving the score uncomfortably close 3. Closer struggles and blows the game. Luckily this time he stopped just short of blowing it.
  15. Does not feel like a win but whatever. Hopefully this does not validate Neris remaining the closer. edit: sorry that was too glum and negative for a win. Go Cubs! Hopefully this win helps reverse some of the psychological damage yesterday did. Let’s win the series tomorrow
  16. Honestly based on his peripherals, Neris might be the worst performing pitcher in the Cubs bullpen. Need to look up the numbers to verify but he’s definitely among the very worst performing pitchers on the Cubs this year and he’s our locked in closer. it’s like they’re trying to blow this season.
  17. Hey craig have you thought about maybe trying someone else? Like right now? why the horsefeathers is this idiot a “unquestioned, no one else is warming up no matter what” closer?
  18. And now we lose the double play and about to put the winning run on base. We can’t horsefeathers keep doing this
  19. Now comes the “I’m afraid to leave one over the plate” pitches that will put him behind in the count, leading to him having to throw him one over the plate.
  20. This is the bottom of their order too lmao
  21. Worst batted ball luck. Gomes deserves a HR for hitting that hard 103 mph, .720 xBA, HR in 20/30 parks Seiya’s out was 107 mph with a .520 xBA
  22. Holy crap that was one of the most entertaining USMNT games in awhile. Definitely some stuff to clean up but they got the performance they needed tonight. More encouraged about Copa now
