    I think if the Bulls were planning on tearing it apart they would have gotten one of the 10,000 first round picks the Thunder have and not a guy 1 year away from RFA. They made this trade because they think it makes the team better (along with whatever other plans they have for the offseason). Not a fan of the trade at all but it pretty much signals that they plan on trying to win. Also one of the things that makes me roll my eyes about this trade is the fact that Giddey is actually a worse 3 point shooter and at less volume than Caruso. Not the most important consideration but this makes the Bulls a worse 3 Point shooting team for a team that has seemingly tried to avoid the modern NBA style of basketball. hopefully other offseason moves address this issue but I’m not holding my breath.

    Even my friend who is a Boston sports fan who tries to rile me up all the time by opposing every argument I make about my teams was like 'why the horsefeathers would they do that trade?'

    That sucks. His numbers looked solid in AAA but I'm assuming the underlying stuff wasn't as good as it seemed given not calling him up despite the Cubs bullpen issues. Realize he wasn't on the 40 but I'm sure they could have found a way to get him on it if they thought he could help.

    Damn, has Kane really slipped that far? I don’t watch a lot of Bundesliga. I know Foden and Saka have had incredible years but didn’t think they were quite on his tier. Kane might have been overrated at his peak though.

    This is why a team with ridiculously good SP is 4 games under .500. That and the pen. Not a ton of variance between this team being 10 games over .500 vs 4 games under TBH

    You all might be talking about it in the game thread but I’m ignoring the Cubs tonight. Big enough name to get his own thread IMO. If he’s not the GOAT, he’s on the very very short list of greatest players ever

    One thing weird about Wesneski is that he was such a disaster vs. LHB last year with a .986 OPS against in 159 PA. This year in 69 PA his OPS against vs. LHB is down to .515. On the downside his numbers against RHB have gone up from .618 to .751.

    Assad is more valuable to us long term as a starter and he's excelling in that role. This year isn't completely toast but its horsefeathered enough that I'm more interested in how these pieces can fit for the future rather than ripping people out of roles they are excelling in so that they can plug holes our GM neglected in the offseason.

    Hey its me the negative stat guy at your service! If you are counting games that the Cubs have had a lead in the 8th inning or later but went on to lose, that's 10 losses

    Apparently Craig isnt even close to removing Neris from the closers role based on his postgame comments

    Cubs are now 0.5 games away from having the 6th worst record in baseball. It will be hard to drop further than that as the next team is 4.5 games ahead of the Cubs but I believe in them, they can get there.

    I think it’s funny that Jed preached flexibility and smart spending but in reality the Cubs are kind of boxed in for the next 1-2 seasons outside of help from the farm. He has a glut of highly paid average to below average players that have very little trade value but are under contract for a couple of years. There is *some* flexibility but nowhere near what Jed was obsessing over. They’re kind of hosed for the next 2 years unless the Cubs swing some very advantageous trades and get lucky or the vaunted farm system starts giving the Cubs position players with star level production
