Just like last year, after hitting rock bottom they crawled to within 1 game of .500 only to go on another slide. If you’ll recall that was during the London trip where the Cubs won the first game to get to 1 under, had an early 3+ run lead in the 2nd game but gave up a big inning after a bad error and lost. Hey wouldn’t you know the Cubs also had an early lead on Monday and also gave up a big inning after a bad error and lost. This season really does mirror last year in so many ways. The only problem is the Cubs were doing all that horsefeathers last year in June, not August. Maybe since they are behind schedule compared to last year they can now go on their hot streak and steal a playoff spot and skip the whole part where they have a historic collapse to miss the playoffs. -

it doesnt seem much different than other seasons I've watched. I didnt really watch it until the most recent 2-3 seasons though so maybe previous years were better. The most compelling part is always the borderline roster players trying to make the team and the best episode is always the cut day episode IMO.

Thought this was interesting even if it doesn't tell us much. This is every player with 45+ PA in high leverage situations, sorted by their OPS in those situations. Interesting that Harper is often mentioned as an MVP candidate but is 2nd to last lol

Eh maybe. I saw the move as a last ditch effort to find some way for him to add value. The running back room is deep with Swift, Herbert and Roshon locks (though a surprise Herbert trade or cut wouldn't stun me), Homer probably in a good position to make it due to his ST contributions. Teams carry what 4-5 RBs? And possibly Blasingame in that number as a FB. Ian Wheeler has also legitimately looked really solid as well, but the Bears can probably sneak him onto the practice squad. As for WR you have Moore, Allen, Rome, Scott as locks leaving 2 spots for other guys like Pettis, Collin Johnson, Nsimba Webster, DeAndre Carter (another ST guy) and Velus. I do think he'll find a way to make the roster considering his versatility as a WR/RB and return guy. But it wouldn't shock me if he was the odd man out in a roster crunch.

Amazing how little things like winning baseball games and not scoring 3 runs or less in every game can make a dramatic difference in a team’s likability

Thats why I'm not spending any time thinking about the playoffs or following other team's games. The season ended in my mind when they coughed up game after game after game earlier in the season and lost the tiebreaker to virtually every team. Add to that it looks like the bar to make the playoffs is going to be multiple games higher this year so its just not worth it. That doesn't mean I'm not having fun watching them play better, and of course theres a tiny part of me that keeps hoping they can get massively hot and make it, but I'm just not spending too much emotional energy thinking about it or worrying about it.

Ugh, I remember them doing this last year too. I don't remember how much the starters played in the 3rd game. At least we'll have Hard Knocks to give us some footage of the joint practices.

He definitely seems concerned about Keenan Allen too, talking about looking noticeably slow on multiple plays. I guess my response to that is that he has never been a burner and its the first preseason game. He'll find ways to make things happen.

I'm sure there will be many breakdown videos coming out, this is the first one I've seen with All-22's and it focuses specifically on the first pass Caleb made on 3rd and 12 to get the 1st down with DJ Moore. Pretty cool seeing the anticipation from Caleb as the window for making that pass was so brief and he read it perfectly, delivered the ball on time and got a tough 3rd down completion
