  1. I agree that long term this is pretty meaningless and doesn’t tell us a ton but at the same time the word pregame was the starters were playing 1-2 series. Looks like Caleb is about to come out for his 5th drive so seems like they still want to see more from him today
  2. I knew this was going to happen when I saw Kyle talking about Caleb’s 20th percentile outcome being a “better Kyler Murray”
  3. Apparently that's only the 3rd balk by Neris this year. How can that be possible? I feel like he's done it 5+ times this year. I guess maybe the 2 times he balked before this were so glaring and damaging given his role that it seems like its happened more than it has.
  4. Really don't care about pitcher wins in general but certainly for a Cubs legend and WS hero like Hendricks it would be really cool to see him hit a nice round 3 digit number of wins. Don't know how many more chances he'll get so it sucks that he couldn't get #97 today.
  5. He really made a case to contenders today that they should pick up his contract /s But in all seriousness, Neris has massive flaws and shouldnt be the closer, but I'll run out the TT argument that he's actually been really solid lately. 1.17 ERA in his last 16 games before today with a solid FIP and .573 OPS against. I'd still be completely fine with them putting him on waivers and seeing what happens, but assuming that doesn't happen, he should still have a role on this team. Just maybe not closer. Especially when the dude cant stop balking runners home.
  6. I mean were stuck with him for awhile and I still don't think managers impact things that much but I certainly don't think he's making decisions that increase our chances of winning games.
  7. Now watch us lose because of a flyball that PCA would have gotten to falls for a hit.
  8. Now Counsell lifts PCA for Wisdom, what the hell are we doing? Sure lets remove our best defensive player who has been really solid with the bat lately and can impact the game in numerous ways in the hopes that Wisdom can hit a HR.
  9. Seriously, he constantly puts himself in danger. Just because he gets out of many of the jams doesn't make it ok that he keeps doing it.
  10. I didnt watch all game. Saw they were up 5-2 going into the 9th and figured it would be fun to watch the last 3 outs. Whoops.
  11. You cannot have a closer that repeatedly balks in runs. This is absolutely ridiculous
  12. Neris with a 3 run lead to protect. 2 batters later and the tying run is up lol
  13. Are we going back to the "if we go 584-2 we can still make the playoffs" type of chatter?
  14. Man half of me is just so damn excited and hyped reading everything about the Bears. The other half of me (the experienced Bears fan) is scared of being hurt again lol. I mean the Bears have had what 1 season where they were actually legitimately exciting and good (2018) in the past 12 years. That timespan represents 30% of my years on this Earth where the Bears have just been aimless and irrelevant. I was in my 20's at the tail end of the Lovie years. We need this to happen so badly!
  15. I really have no idea how to project how 2026 will play out with all the changes to the format. Advancing to knockouts should be a near guarantee given the fact that we'll be the Pot 1 team in our group and worst case we'd just have to be one of the 8 best 3rd place teams (out of 12) to advance. But I have no idea what the quality of opponent will be in the round of 32. We could play some 2nd rate AFC team that went 0-1-2 and advanced on GD or we could play an UEFA power. Given all that and the fact that we're the host country, I think base level expectations should be round of 16, with a QF or SF appearance being a very successful tournament but who knows.
  16. Yeah seriously lol. It still sucked to go out in the group stage of Copa, but if it leads us to success in 2026 it was well worth it.
  17. I'd be interested in knowing how far were projected to be over the tax and whether it would make sense to put some guys on waivers to see if they are claimed. I just don't want the Cubs to turn into cheapasses and blame this one season they went a little over the threshold in a lost season as the reason why they won't spend.
  18. Yeah he wasn't perfect today but from the accounts I've read he had his way with the Bengals defense today. I am getting beyond hyped.
  19. Actually that tracks. “See? We can go over! But now we have to slash payroll to go back under and avoid repeater penalties. But wait til you see the teenagers we get this time.”
  20. It's being discussed in yesterday's game thread but felt its worth its own topic (gimme those brownie points @Brock Beauchamp) It sounds like it was on accident? Meaning probably not over by much? How does this effect next year? Why did he single out Bellinger? So much to unpack here....
  21. Just adding some details from twitter to your statement: I have absolutely no idea why Jed would specifically single out Cody Bellinger's contract but it definitely seems like there's an agenda behind this. Maybe he's trying to goad Bellinger into opting out or something. Ridiculous comment from someone who is paying guys like Mancini and Barnhart millions this season. What are the consequences for this? Are we planning to slash payroll this winter to ensure we're back under again, or are we going to roll with it and continue adding knowing that eventually we'll have to reset the clock? Seems like very poor management either way.
  22. Thats so amazing. Didn't his form of cancer have a pretty poor prognosis? I thought we were gonna lose him. Happy to (hopefully) be wrong.
