  1. Just because you are taking Jaxons spot in the rotation doesn't mean you have to be Jaxon
  2. Castro, Baez and Soler all hit HRs in their MLB debuts.
  3. Dammit why are you doing this to me? Any word on the prognosis on his back injury?
  4. Baez's P/PA is 4.26. Brian Dozier is the qualified leader at 2B with 4.19. The only unqualified players with the same or higher are Brooks Conrad (4.26 in 13G), Andy Parrino (4.32 in 14G), Jemile Weeks (4.54 in 3G), and Tony Abreu (4.75 in 3G). 4.26 would rank 7th among all qualified position players Well it takes at least 3 pitches to strike out, and Javy is striking out in over 40% of his PAs. I'm not completely discrediting that statistic, its good and he is working the count more than you'd think but I think that explains some of it.
  5. Wasn't that for Castro? yup, i thought so
  6. he started worse than this in iowa A lot worse. .142/.229/.255/.484 through 28 games with 45 Ks in 118 PAs. Only had 3 HRs also. Damn that's freaking bad. I looked up Javy's stats if you take away his first 3 games as a Cub (which isn't fair and selective, I'm not trying to make any points or say Javy sucks or won't improve) and those numbers still look better than that start in Iowa. .181/.224/.375/.599 37K in 76 PA (51% K rate) in 18 games. Then got even more selective and looked at his stats in his last 12 games, and still only just about as bad as that Iowa start. .133/.204/.333/.537 27K in 49 PA (60% K rate) But then if you look at his last 5 games it gets ugly. 2-20, 14 K, 2 HR (!!), BABIP .000 (0-4 in balls in play) Can't wait for him to start kicking ass!!
  7. Could be moving someone from another show to fill the midday slot announced at 3pm and Goff will fill in the open spot elsewhere, announced at a later time. So on the score right now they have... Mully and Hanley in the AM, formerly Mac and Spiegs Midday, Boers and Bernstein afternoons, Lawrence Holmes in the evening and creepy Les Grobstein overnight. Boers and Bernstein isn't changing, and Holmes has some 120 sports thing that is taking up his time. So maybe someone from Mully and Hanley moves to midday, and Goff to AMs, announced later?
  8. http://deadspin.com/reports-nhl-plans-expansion-and-soon-1627363386 Jesus, the last thing the NHL needs is 4 freaking new teams. Look I like the NHL a lot....but its still a sport that doesn't have a lot of attraction and demand in much of the US. And now you want to give it 34 teams, 2 more than any other Big 4 sport? That's insane. All that said, if the 4 teams were Las Vegas, Seattle, Quebec and a 2nd Toronto team, I don't mind all 4 of those markets. Seattle has room for a 3rd sports team (sorry Sounders, 4 then), Quebec and Toronto are Canadian so I have to assume they will be supported at least decently, and Las Vegas I think would be a really interesting experiment. Yes there are 30 million things to do in Vegas, but you know that fans of the other 33 (jesus) teams are going to plan to come to Vegas en masse when their team comes to Vegas....the stadium gets filled, Vegas gets even more tourism, its a win win I think. That said, they really should just move 4 teams. Carolina, Phoenix and one or both of the Florida teams would be a good start.
  9. it was like 2 weeks ago, brett jackson
  10. Cubs now have the same record as the White Sox. Funny stuff.
  11. Javy is only one behind Stanton for the league lead - in 4 K games (5-4)
  12. *Watches this dude strike out the first 2 guys with ease, sees Baez on deck* Please get out Coughlan
  13. Barely looks like he belongs on the field while hitting 7 HR in 80 AB or something. Not bad. Oh and 3.2 WAR pace for meaningless [expletive] and giggles. I didn't say he always looks like that. Just days like today.
  14. He barely looks like he belongs on the field. Can't wait until he gets it together. Hard to watch at the moment.
  15. I don't get how Bryant is less capable of having elite plate discipline and power potential. I'm guessing people look at Bryant's K rate and get this perception that he's a slightly less free swinging Baez or something.
  16. He's so terrible. Finally some real stories for Derwood I laughed
  17. If any out of towners are excited about the youth movement for the rest of the season, MLB.TV is only $12 for the rest of the year for today only: http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/subscriptions/index.jsp?c_id=mlb&partnerId=ed-8583198-735422013
  18. Any word on whether the Cubs are going to activate Soler before the game? Still holding out hope for an 9th inning game winning homer
  19. out of curiosity what is the long term difference between him coming up now, and him making the opening day roster?
  20. Has his power projection changed since we signed him? I remember when we signed Soler they said he might have the most raw power in the minors. Obviously Baez and Bryant are uber elite when it comes to power so saying Soler is a step down from them is not necessarily a bad thing, I was just always under the assumption that he was on that level.
