  1. I'm guessing they couldn't get rid of Sharp's salary. And when Saad wouldn't go for the bridge deal, salary cap hell bit them in the ass. Players in order of "you have to absolutely [expletive] keep them" I'd go Toews, Kane, Keith, Hammer, then Saad. Unless signing him for 6.5m was going to cost you one of those 4, I would have resigned him. But I could be thinking irrationally right now. 6.5m is a lot. But if he signs for 6.5m, there had to be someone willing to eat at least $3.5m of Sharps number. I don't care if its a straight salary dump, you do that deal, Saad would be making close to what Sharp was making only he's like 24 and is already more productive than a 34 year old Sharp is.
  2. There's reports Saad was asking for 6 years at 6.5m AAV. I still keep him for that amount
  3. I'm really [expletive] pissed. Really [expletive] upset. Really [expletive] confused. Seriously? To keep Patrick Sharp? A more expensive older player? I haven't felt angry about the Blackhawks in awhile, this will take some getting used to. Holy hell
  4. This and Papelbon would appease Lester enough to cut Ross
  5. I never had much of a problem with Lidstrom other than being a rival but i might be missing some sort of incident in the dark ages that I blocked out of my mind. He was a damn good player. And Pronger...well hated him back in St Louis but I kind of respect him at the same time. His ability to get in opponents heads and also deflect attention away from his teammates was second to none
  6. Zawaski is reporting that the Hawks were offering Saad 2 years at $2.8m AAV and trying to sell him on playing for cheap for 2 years then getting a much bigger deal. Saads camp is said to be asking for 4 years at $4m AAV. If I am the Hawks I [expletive] accept that offer before Wednesday when some team will offer him at the very least 5/25. His wording was unclear but he made it seem like he heard the Hawks chances of keeping Saad were 50/50 which I think is insane and false(and he says basically the same thing)
  7. What is the difference between 24 year olds who have been in the majors for 3-4 years and 24 year olds who are playing in their second year? Just curious if there is a difference and if adjusting to major league pitching has its own performance curve regardless of age
  8. Welp, he will probably be getting a lot of ice time next year.
  9. Yes. You should call Jim Hendry's office and offer up that advice. Don't listen to him. Apparently doing this gives you cancer.
  10. You misspelled Szczur
  11. Wait do they really have a wall honoring dead drunk driving cardinals?
  12. Given that we know the playoffs come down to luck more than anything, that doesn't help. Our history with luck is pretty terrible. That Will Ferrell spoofish Lifetime movie is on. We've made the playoffs 6 times in the last 70 years, so its not like we've had a ton of chances to succeed in the playoffs.
  13. and.....you officially crossed my 'ignore threshold'
  14. We'll get there with this squad, possibly by the end of the season
  15. yes lets point at my teammates in the dugout after an rbi double in the 4th inning of the 77th game of the year
  16. when is that karmic retribution coming for the cardinals being [expletive] bags?
  17. For anyone hoping Starlin was turning the corner...4-25 in his last 7 games with a .160/.160/.200/.360 line
  18. Come on Bryant, don't go all Javy on us.
  19. So annoying that this will probably knock Hammel out forcing the game in the hands of a very taxed pen that has had to pitch 6+ innings twice in the past week.
  20. because a lot of fans like schadenfreude and came here to read some and instead saw us talking about how their fans are yokels and outwardly wishing their players would die. So they got all worked up and responded. Because they are little brother of a city and think that having a more successful baseball team justifies their decision to live in a backwater city. Because they are pissed their football team is leaving, their hockey team choked in the first round again while their rivals won another Cup and have nothing else to turn to but their baseball team as a source of pride. Because they are overly defensive after their team got caught blatantly cheating. Lots of reasons really
  21. These new posters we've gotten sure have been swell additions haven't they?
  22. I'm surprised Heyward didn't run into the dugout, take a curtain call, and then run back on the field
  23. Because if there's one thing the Cardinals do, it's completely gag in the playoffs. They have before And the time they blew that 3-1 lead in the nlcs
  24. Random MLS question...what is up with the Chicago Fire? It seems like the league is gaining traction, there are legit rivalries, rabid fan bases, etc but here in Chicago it seems like the local team is just "there". Just a rather irrelevant team with little local coverage, a nice stadium but one way out of the way and surpassed by a large chunk of the league. I know that the team has sucked for several years and that hurts as the league rises. And I know they are lacking an aging superstar from Europe or SA like many teams have. Is my perception as a very very casual fan correct? I'd love to get into the MLS as I see the excitement in cities like Seattle, Portland, LA, NY, KC etc but honestly the Fire don't even seem like they are in the same league as the teams in those markets. They just seem to be running in mud.
  25. Instead of a complete moron we get a bunch of ripping on Castro.
