If we've learned anything from Maddon over the first 3 months this year is that he is completely unafraid to go away from conventional thinking and locking people into statuses like 'closer' or 'ace' etc. Salary and past performance will play very little into the decision making. Huh? They're definitely not very good defensively, but they're essentially neck and neck with the Cubs when it comes to fielding. The Sox are 29th in defensive efficiency and 30th by a healthy margin in UZR. Mercy!

Why on earth would the Padres make that deal? It's possible Castro has some value..who knows. But yeah throwing Jackson in there completely kills this as a viable trade offer.
